White House officials couldn't stop President Donald Trump from his habit ripping up and throwing away papers, even when they needed to be preserved. So they enlisted records management staff to piece them back together, according to a report from Politico. Under the Presidential Records Act, all materials must be filed and saved in the National Archives.

An entire department of records management employees pieced materials back together "like a jigsaw puzzle," former employee Solomon Lartey told Politico, so the administration won't break the law.

White House staff reportedly collected papers from the Oval Office and private residence and sent across the street to the Old Executive Office Building for Lartey and his colleagues to tape back together.

Lartey told Politico that he and his staff saw newspaper clips, memos, letters from colleagues like Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, and more torn once or sometimes completely shredded.

"I had a letter from Schumer — he tore it up," he told Politico. "It was the craziest thing ever. He ripped papers into tiny pieces."

The Presidential Records Act says the sitting president holds "responsibility for the custody and management" of presidential records.

The White House declined to comment.

I think this is McCain doing what he can at this point. Despite a few votes that pandered to Trump's side, he understands that this is a shit show and doesn't even try to defend it anymore. I was upset when I voted in favor of the tax bill, but he's one of the only GOP senators that I'm somewhat confident would, if push came to shove, not be willing to subjugate American democracy to an authoritarian will. Shouting out stuff like "Fuck Trump" adds absolutely nothing to the conversation. It could be construed as venting, but like you say, we all say that shit everyday. DeNiro doing it in public seems more like self-serving attention whoring than anything else. When Bee called Ivanka a cunt, there was context and a reason behind it. She didn't just get up there and yell "Ivanka is a cunt!" Something about DeNiro's stunt just struck me as try-hard. I agree with the sentiment, but not the venue.

It continues to blow my mind how openly and purposely devisive he is. Any other president would be out there talking about being everyone’s President. Trump specifically chooses to throw entire populations under he bus, sues entire states, and hold rallies specifically to deride huge groups of his citizens. He openly criticizes whole bureaus of the government that he runs. It’s insane. He’s not the President of the United States. He’s the President of his base.
