Everyone universally loathes standing in lines. Even if it's 3 minutes. I absolutely will not wait two minutes to eat at Outback. I'm an ass.
Strategies I've attempted, that don't work. ....
Checking phone, deep breathing, I heart radio (late sixties pop), people watching, snooping conversations, hating the insufferable git' that's arguing on a phonecall.
DMV.....is the absolute worst form of torture.
My strategy is to drive out 45 minutes to a tiny country county DMV.

Always hated it (esp when you read stats of how much of our lives we wait in lines). I quit doing amusement parks long before my body said ENOUGH. I'm wired to be impatient. Usually just stare at my phone or even close my eyes and daydream.
Re: Do you have a Standing in Line Strategy ?
Yes, avoid them at all costs. The worst I get now is waiting on hold for customer service, etc..., however put it on speaker phone and continue my day as I wait. As for the DMV, have always made a reservation online and walked right in. Zero wait.

BMV.
Waited in line 90 minutes, and was missing one required document, because it was printed on non official paper.
Spent a half hour sitting in the car, considering going off grid in Wyoming.

Yeah, Jackson Hole is a grid. Lots of sleazy Hollywood slimes flying in on gulfstreams, and unloading Vuitton bags into eco Range Rovers.

Yeah, I generally use my feet. I'll usually shift my weight between the two to give one a bit of a sneaky break.

My daughter just drove through Jackson. They wanted to stop but didn't. Just swarming with people and cars. Like the Strip or Bourbon St etc...

If it's unavoidable... Just turn on the music (headphones, earbuds), usually something kinda mellow, and look down. Move when the line moves. Don't think about it too much.
Getting on an airplane? I'm the last one on. No reason to board a plane early. I travel light. I wait for them to call my name then grab one more drink at the bar. When I hear "the gates are closing". That's when I start walking to the gate. Fuck 'em.

Check my phone or read the headlines on a tabloid. Otherwise I'm sighing and cutting my eyes at whoever is holding up the line.
