Just finished 'The Upside Of Irrationality' (Ariely) and immediately moved onto 'The Rebel' (Camus)

How are you liking it? I gave it a shot a few years ago and couldn't get past the first couple chapters. The guy seemed as full of shit as your average Sludger, only less likeable.

I just finished Never Flinch by Stephen King, managed to get my hands on an advanced reader's copy since it doesn't come out for another four months. What a fucking disappointment. I've enjoyed his turn to crime fiction over the last 10-12 years for the most part but he really shit the bed with this one.

I'm currently working my way through Outside The Gates Of Eden by Lewis Shiner. it's a bit slow at times but damn can he tell a story.

It's okay, and he sort of is FOS. I tried watching his YouTube channel and couldn't. It isn't that profound, but it tries to get you into the habit of noticing the meaningless things we worry about. I guess. It isn't a long read, so I'll stick it out.

Similarly, I'm reading The Spanish Frontier in North America, all about the Spanish Conquest not just of South America, Mexico, Florida and California, but inland like Arizona, New Mexico, Utah, etc. Those inland States are often ignored when talking about the Conquistadors, but Spain had just as much influence on the evolution of the US as Britain did, so it's cool to have it better fleshed out.

Just finished James by Percival Everett last night. This was the story of Huckleberry Finn but told from the perspective of the runaway slave Jim. Good read.

How to Read a Tree by Tristand Gooley. Kind of dry, but interesting. A non-fiction book about why different trees grow in unique ways, basically as a response to their environment and/or competition.

Have a good about RATT on top and another fiction book called Rental House by Weike Wang.

I typically read several different types of books and read depending on my mood.

A Fever in the Heartland by Timothy Egan. My Aunt in Central Indiana recommended it. Just started it yesterday.

Alex Van Halen “Brothers” - almost finished with it and very much enjoy the behind-the-scenes details.

Sweat by Justin Glaser.

Plodding my way through The Making Of Kind Of Blue: Miles Davis and His Masterpiece by Eric Nisenson. Not that it's a bad book, but it's dense and I have to be in a certain mindset to really absorb it. That said, it's a great, fascinating look at the Jazz scene in the 50's and 60's. Lots of names I'm not familiar with that I keep stopping to look up and albums to track down. I'm loving the book but only getting through about 50 pages a week. Also reading The Inevitable by Katie Engelhart. She did years of research into and interviews about physician assisted suicide. She looks at it ethically, morally and philosophically. It's a tough read at times, but really fucking interesting. I've seen people suffer horribly in their last days/weeks/months/years, I'm also not getting any younger and more than ever I want to try and see and understand all sides of the issue and be as informed as possible when it comes to my own choice and body autonomy.

I also just started Mike Campbell's book Heartbreaker. I've read a couple other books about Tom Petty and I'm interested to hear the story as told by his Right Hand Man.

Audiobooks I'm listening to at work and on my walks are The King Is Dead, a collection of short stories by Walter Tevis and Nocturne, short stories by Jeffery Deaver, along with the occasional podcast.
