Head of Toyota in Congressional hearings
Anybody give this a passing glance?
Politicians giving the guy shit. A Democrat right now.
Gee, I wonder why, considering they spent tons of money to bail out Chrysler and GM. I wonder if they're at all invested.

Should they NOT be giving Toyota shit? They fucked up, bad, and just recently issued a memo saying CONGRATS!!! to everyone in the company for avoiding a massive recall and touting all the money they saved...JakeYonkel wrote:Anybody give this a passing glance?

I don't see what the bailout has to do with it, but if this disaster steers some car sales away from Toyota and toward American car companies I don't see why that is bad either.
What's your angle with this one?

was actually questioned by 2 republicans and 1 democrat. 1 even had a non-union Honda plant in his district. But somehow this is an Obama conspiracy.

I don't think it's a conspiracy theory. The fact that two of the biggest selling cars on the market need to be recalled because they either don't stop, or because the gas pedal gets stuck is something Congress SHOULD be investigating.

Of course they're pissed. Everyone on this side of the ocean is pissed because every car that needs to be pulled in means money and time lost along the way by every shmuck who can't get to work, or can't get a loaner from his insurance company, or any of the other inconveniences that come along with having your horse ripped from the carriage. Anyone who tries to make it a partisan issue is a dicknose.

I didn't claim it's a conspiracy. But I think the US government looks stupid when they're clearly vested in the auto industry now.
My wife drives an '09 Camry that was recalled. We dropped it off and an hour later it was fixed. Big fucking deal, move along.

Well it was so easy for you and your wife it should be so easy for everyone, right? People are perhaps dying from their cars accelerating out of control, move along.JakeYonkel wrote:I didn't claim it's a conspiracy. No, that wouldn't happen. Not from politicians. Especially not with someone whose chief of staff's main motto is "You never want a serious crisis to go to waste."

Yes and the media is painting this out to be that Toyota is some evil corporation hellbent on profit and without care for their product.Hames Jetfield wrote:Well it was so easy for you and your wife it should be so easy for everyone, right? It's a recall, this shit happens. It's unfortunate. As with any recall, it shouldn't have happened in the first place. But they're taking steps to fix it at no cost to the consumer (as they should). So bring the car in and get it fixed.
If, God forbid, you've lost somebody to an accident that was related to a faulty product, then by all means you have a case. But don't railroad the company over this. The recall has been in the news for months. It's now on the consumer to take the steps of calling the dealer and verifying that the VIN is a car that needs to be fixed.

Re: Head of Toyota in Congressional hearings
Yeah, but it's not as if just one of their models has been recalled--many of them have been, and it’s been for both brakes and accelerators. When it's of this magnitude and this severity I think the "media" should report on it. The fact is Toyota has apparently known about this for awhile and could have got out in front of this thing, but, instead, they've let it creep up and bite them. And it’s quite solipsistic for you to project your experience with this recall onto everyone and their own cars. As far as I know Toyota wasn’t sure what the exact cause of the acceleration problem was at first.JakeYonkel wrote:Yes and the media is painting this out to be that Toyota is some evil corporation hellbent on profit and without care for their product.Hames Jetfield wrote:Well it was so easy for you and your wife it should be so easy for everyone, right? Great. Too bad the quote is Rahm Emmanuel's and has nothing at all to do with the Republican party.KneelandBobDylan wrote:thejuggernaut wrote:Trying to destroy what is now the competition ?JakeYonkel wrote:Anybody give this a passing glance?
