You know what dudes

Post by Ugmo »

I know we bitch and crab at each other a lot here and I can be an overbearing dickbag, but I really do like almost all of you fuckers. And I have no doubt that if we met up in real life we would get on fine, provided nobody brought up politics.

That being said, I still think the Republican Party is a bunch of selfish, self-serving assholes who would gladly destroy the country if they saw any personal gain in it for themselves. :D

Ug, I've said it before that you play devil's advocate and I want to crawl through my comp and claw your eyes out sometimes. That said, you're pretty goddamn smart and keep up on things from halfway around the world better than most people I know who live here. I'd be happy to have a drink with anyone here, especially you (as long as KBD brings some treats).

I'm not opposed to having a drink with anyone. The thing is, the democrats on the board would be trying to steal the money out of my wallet to pay for drinks for everyone in the bar.

They'd also want to tax you for using the bathroom.

Depends who you work for - it was probably Democratic tax money that subsidized the corporation that signs your paychecks in the first place!

Yikes! Can't say I've ever felt that way about you, but then you're relatively moderate in your views. Anyway, I think the likelihood of us talking politics in real life would be low anyway. I don't need that shit ruining a good night out. That's what Danger Danger is for.

And those drinks would be pretty expensive as it would be a union pub with 6 people behind the bar due to division of labor - one to wash the glasses, one to pour beer, one to pour liquor, another to handle the mixers, one to man the condiment station, and another to wipe the bar. And all of them would be making $50/hr. "Yes sir, two beers coming right up. That will be $112.50 plus tax."

I don't think anywhere in "Socialist" Europe would you find a pub where 2 beers cost $112.50 plus tax. Since that is the model everyone seems to fear and drinks don't seem to cost that much more than they do here - and they have real beer to boot - your argument seems inherently flawed.

Or are you suggesting that Americans can't work as efficiently as Europeans? That'd be the only other way your scenario would play out.

I wasn't talking about Europe, I was talking about unions right here in the good old USA. We have pubs here too ya know. And I wasn't talking about working inefficiently, I was commenting on how unions do the "one person, one job" thing. And it was supposed to be a joke...

I knew what you meant, but the conservative's Chicken Little theme is usually that they don't want us to be like Socialist Europe. So if it had been serious it would be illogical, and as a joke it also falls flat. I've never seen a bar with unionized workers and I doubt it's in our future.

You know what's weird? I replied to WhiteHouse thinking I was replying to you dude, hence the Danger Danger remark!

I guess everything I said applies to WHSAC as well, except insert Nickelback where Danger Danger is.

(I'd much rather listen to Danger Danger than Nickelback!)

Beer is pretty cheap over here - at least in Germany and Austria, where it's considered a basic food staple!

My plumbing shop had a German-descent kid who worked there for awhile. He called beer "liquid bread" and brought some homebrew to work one day, which we enjoyed after work. Good stuff, and it does have a nutty-breadlike texture that I really liked a lot more than our pisswater domestic beer.

But I fugured you might have tourist trap pubs where they soak the tourists. The locals would know better - like here, where gas stations near the interstate charge way more than the ones in town, but long-distance travelers aren't going to venture off the main highway looking.

I share your sentiments, Ugmo. (Except for the "overbearing dickbag" part).

And I believe friends who have opposing views can bring up politics, and also "get on fine".

Yes, they do have a lot in common with the current Democratic Party.

In real life I rarely discuss politics with anyone but my husband and my mother-in-law, both of whom lean so far left they make me look like Ann Coulter. My husband and I have one other couple we hang out with and they're wacky libertarian in their views. I disagree with half the shit they're so passionate about, but it's never impeded our friendship. I can honestly say that if I met any of you guys in real life your political affiliations would mean absolutely nothing in terms of how much I'd like you.

I'm more likely to fall out with ya for what football (soccer) team you shout for rather than for your politics. Even though I'm in left leaning pinko Vermont, a bunch of people I work with are conservative and hammer Obama at any opportunity. I get on fine with all of them.

I'd like to see ManU get relegated so they'd learn a little humility.

LOL, I dunno where you get that from, Ugmo. It's the likes of Real Madrid that like to ride roughshod over everyone. Look at their pursuit of Ronaldo.

Anyways, as long as you don't support Liverpool, Chelsea or Shitty City you can say what you like and I won't get offended.

Just like your dislike for big business! At least you're consistent.

By the way, aren't you a Rapid Vienna fan? And aren't they one of the biggest clubs in Austria?

I'm actually not really against big business, as long as they act responsibly. My biggest (and only) client is a huge multinational pharmaceutical company and I have no misgivings working for them.
MickeyG wrote:By the way, aren't you a Rapid Vienna fan? And aren't they one of the biggest clubs in Austria?

Ahh... I wondered whether you were going to ask that! Sure, technically they're "one of the biggest" clubs in Austria, but their payroll is still a pittance at 11 million euros, behind Salzburg at 40 million and Austria Wien at 14 million. On top of that, they operate in the black as opposed to Salzburg, which has a license to print Red Bull money. So it's really amazing what they achieve with so little money, especially considering they have to sell their best players each year to bigger clubs. And they have the best fans in Austria bar none - I think that's one of the reasons they play above their ability.
