Can't wait to hear...
You morons defense and/or explanation of obama's new PRIME DIRECTIVE for NASA - making the muslims feel good about their contributions to science and improving relations. This looks like a job for the fucking space program! wow, he's now proven he's as stupid as his followers.
Re: Can't wait to hear...
No matter how stupid he is, he looks like a rocket scientist next to you.

Pretty ridiculous. Nothing else needs to be said.
But then again, his administration is suing one of its states for enforcing their version of a federal law that isn't being enforced by the federal government, so.. up is down, left is right, who the hell knows anymore?

I'm not sure what good this will do but I don't see it destroying America or NASA. It's a cheap feel-good gesture, pure politics. I'm far more interested to hear how he plans to inspire more kids to pursue careers in math or science when he's cutting the very programs that might inspire them?ROADHEAD wrote:You morons defense and/or explanation of obama's new PRIME DIRECTIVE for NASA - making the muslims feel good about their contributions to science and improving relations. Roadhead, what is it that bothers you so much? Is it that it's an uncomfortable reminder that while the Islamic world was advancing science and mathematics, your ancestors were burning witches at the stake? Maybe it's just someone else not sharing your blind hatred of those diaper headed sandniggers? Hmmm...

Muslims DID make HUGE contributions to the sciences. I'm more upset that Obama seems to have nixed the Mars missions as far as harm done to NASA. The space program has been the primary driver for technological advancement for the past 50 years.

ARABS made those advances in math and science, not "Muslims". The Arabs who came up with all that great math and science predated Islam by centuries.
Arab does not = Muslim. Just sayin'
And with that I'll bow out of the War Board for another year or so.

The prime directive of the space program? That doesn't bother you? I don't care if it was the members of KISS. It's fucking ridiculous and can't be defended but some will find a way to try. I'm not my ancestors. I never owned a slave and I never burned a witch. Nice deflection though (not really).MasterOfMeatPuppets wrote:I'm not sure what good this will do but I don't see it destroying America or NASA. It's a cheap feel-good gesture, pure politics. Mohammed lived from 570-632 A.D.; the first mention of sifir or zero in Arabic mathematics texts was in 976 A.D., which is 344 years AFTER Mohammed died and Islam was established.Monty610 wrote:ARABS made those advances in math and science, not "Muslims". This is the statement making you piss your panties. Obama tasked him with three goals. The emphasis on Muslim outreach is Holden's. Read it and see. Of course, you are a moron who was completely unaware NASA was actually a government agency. If you had any intelligence, you would be far more concerned about NASA cutting back on the programs that are it's core mission rather than them playing nice with 'those evil towelheads'.NASA administrator Charles Bolden wrote:When I became the NASA Administrator — before I became the NASA Administrator — [Obama] charged me with three things: One was he wanted me to help re-inspire children to want to get into science and math, he wanted me to expand our international relationships, and third, and perhaps foremost, he wanted me to find a way to reach out to the Muslim world and engage much more with dominantly Muslim nations to help them feel good about their historic contribution to science, math, and engineering.

Except the concept was around for centuries before that. Indians and Babylonians had a concept of zero, Babylonians even used a space in their mathematics to symbolize it, as did Aryabhatta, the Indian mathematician. And even in Arabic mathematics, the concept existed at the latest around 500 AD, about 70 years before ol' MoMo was born.lerxstcat wrote:Mohammed lived from 570-632 A.D.; the first mention of sifir or zero in Arabic mathematics texts was in 976 A.D., which is 344 years AFTER Mohammed died and Islam was established.Monty610 wrote:ARABS made those advances in math and science, not "Muslims". The claim that Muslims "invented" zero is just another Islamist rewrite, a la "Christopher Columbus's navigator was a Muslim", and other revisionist fantasies.
Anyway, I'll catch ya in a Rush thread or something...

Re: Can't wait to hear...
You have a good point, but the official "sifir" was formalized in 976 as I said, and there is no doubt that despite the earlier civilizations having a "zero" concept, it WAS Muslim Arabs who passed this idea on to Europeans, who'd previously used the system of Roman numerals, which would be pretty cumbersome to write computer code in.Monty610 wrote:Except the concept was around for centuries before that. So as far as who gave it to OUR civilization - Muslim Arabs, or for all we know it may have even been Turks. The Turks were actually our primary peaceful contacts from the world of Islam during the Middle Ages, even though they did end up exterminating the Byzantines. The Arabs were more about jihad, while the Turks were about trade and coexistence, comparatively speaking.
I'm with you on the Rush threads though!

The word 'foremost'. Yes. 1st order of business - cancel manned space flight. 2nd order of business.. fix the brake problem at Toyota. 3rd order of business (yes...perhaps FOREMOST)..this nonsense. How to destroy a half century of work and exploration in 3 easy steps. Latch on to this muslim thing all you want, this all makes obama an idiot of the highest order.

Didn't the Turks try to invade Vienna? Weren't they also engaged in a few wars with the Venetians?

I can use the word "foremost" in a sentence! First and foremost, you're an idiot.
Re: Can't wait to hear...
Those things are true, they ruled Greece and much of the Balkans for centuries after they destroyed the Byzantine Empire. But they were still more tolerant of Christians and Jews than most other Muslim nations. They weren't as hardcore about Islam as the Arabs were overall.Hames Jetfield wrote:Didn't the Turks try to invade Vienna? Weren't they also engaged in a few wars with the Venetians?

That's ridiculous. Advances in the Islamic world ran parallel to advances in the Christian world. Pick any century in the 1400 years after the fall of the Roman Empire and there were brilliant minds, in both the West and East. And the Muslim world was no stranger to burning people alive, cutting their limbs off, enslaving and selling massive amounts of human beings, and other fun tortures. Your magical enlightened intelligent fairy depiction of the Muslim world compared to the dumb superstitious and cruel depiction of Christendom is ludicrous, to say the least.
What the sad irony is to your doofus post is that once the Ottoman Empire fell, the Muslim world has retrogressed into a borderline Third World region, where knowledge and freedom of the press are suppressed. The only reason they stay afloat at all is oil.
And Obama spending millions of tax dollars to "remind" that region of glories long past is pointless. NASA has better things to do than being a silly publicist for the diluted cultural Marxism of "diversity" and "tolerance".
Although I think precious little can be done about your childish bourgeois left wing view of the world, at least read a little World History before you sound off.

But I'm not pretending that, as you know. What you are pretending is that the Islamic Empire wasn't a backward shithole. You are pretending that Umayyad and Abbasid Caliphates during the Islamic Golden Age were utopias where no one was forced to convert to Islam, no untold millions were sold into slavery, no women were tortured and mutilated for sexual indiscretions and no prisoners were dismembered for petty crimes. Oh and Muslims burned people at the stake as witches also, turbo.

there are 2 key signs that you have no valid argument and someone is making you look like an uninformed fool:
1. charge the person you are debating with as being racist.
2. divert attention away from the topic at hand by making fun of someones personal life.
MOMP just did both.

It is apparent that you don't know what was a shithole or what wasn't. It is apparent that you know nothing about history, philosophy, science, or the philosophy of science. It is pathetic how this War Board is filled with people like yourself who are so transparently uneducated that you don't know the timeline of Western Civilization and its advances and failures, much less the Islamic Golden Age's parallels. I'm really not used to it, because if my friends and/or colleagues and I sat down with someone and they said, "Is it that it's an uncomfortable reminder that while the Islamic world was advancing science and mathematics, your ancestors were burning witches at the stake?" or "The Dark ages were called a the Dark ages for a reason" the laughter would fill the bar.
You see, even intelligent left-wingers know their history. Any sympathizer of Marx and Lenin has their history down pat; it is simply the subjective interpretation of the effects of history that is debated. This is all Greek to you, I'm sure.
Don't worry...even a perfunctory glance at a few History Channel presentations would enlighten you to the Caliphates' heinous crimes to humanity through the centuries. Surely you have cable?
I'm not insinuating that it is a synonym. I love and respect the culture of Islam and its history, and defended it in the threads about the South Park blasphemy in the Lounge. But the respect of a religion, race, and culture does not receive a "get-out-of-jail-free-card" for it's prima facie connection to the majority of terrorism committed throughout the world. Furthermore, it doesn't grant itself remolding of history, especially as ridiculous as your assertion that the Islamic Golden Age was a social utopia and the West was back-asswards.My belief that Muslim is not a synonym for terrorist does not make me Neville Chamberlain.
More grasping at straws. You don't even have a comprehension of the modern political spectrum. How many neoconservatives oppose both wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, US Drug Policy, the Arizona immigration law, tort reform, the Patriot Act, the National ID Act, and corporate welfare? As far as your neoconservative poppycock, I'll let eight years of history speak for itself.
The answer is none, because I am a paleo-libertarian and have been so for quite some time, and have espoused those views for almost 10 years on this board.
You don't even have a clue why you believe what you do, do you? Your beliefs are nothing, no...less than nothing.
I don't have time to give you history lessons. I would take some time off if I were you.
