Gurkha single-handedly owns 30 Taliban!

A Gurkha soldier who single-handedly fought off an attack on his base by up to 30 Taliban insurgents has been awarded the Conspicuous Gallantry Cross.

Acting Sergeant Dipprasad Pun, 31, exhausted all his ammunition and at one point had to use the tripod of his machine gun to beat away a militant climbing the walls of the compound.

The soldier fired more than 400 rounds, launched 17 grenades and detonated a mine to thwart the Taliban assault on his checkpoint near Babaji in Helmand Province, southern Afghanistan.

Acting Sgt Pun was on sentry duty on the evening of September 17 last year when he heard a clinking noise outside the small base.

At first he thought it might be a donkey or a cow, but when he went to investigate he found two insurgents digging a trench to lay an improvised explosive device (IED) at the checkpoint's front gate.

He realised that he was completely surrounded and that the Taliban were about to launch a well-planned attempt to overrun the compound.

The enemy opened fire from all sides, destroying the sentry position where Acting Sgt Pun had been on duty minutes before.

Defending the base from the roof, the Gurkha remained under continuous attack from rocket-propelled grenades and AK47s for over quarter of an hour.

Most of the militants were about 50ft away from him, but at one point he turned around to see a 'huge' Taliban fighter looming over him.

Acting Sgt Pun picked up his machine gun and fired a long burst at the man until he fell off the roof.
When another insurgent tried to climb up to his position, the Gurkha attempted to shoot him with his SA80 rifle.

But it did not work, either because it had jammed or because the magazine was empty.

Acting Sgt Pun first grabbed a sandbag but it had not been tied up and the contents fell to the floor - he still had time to throw it at the enemy, though.

Then he seized the metal tripod of his machine gun and threw it at the approaching Taliban militant, shouting in Nepali 'Marchu talai' ('I will kill you') and knocking him down.

Two insurgents were still attacking by the time the heroic Gurkha had used up all his ammunition, but he set off a Claymore mine to repel them.

Westboro Baptist Church plans protest of murder of "freedom fighters"

(CNN) A Kansas based church well known for protesting the funeral of military service members killed in Iraq and Afghanistan are turning the other cheek and have made plans to fly to Helmand Province in southern Afghanistan after the killing of over 30 alleged Taliban fighters the church feels have been mislabeled by American media as insurgents.

Speaking to Fox News, Shirley Phelps Roper said "It is a clear violation of God and Allah's law that these thirty freedom fighters were unfairly targeted without as much as a warning shot." Phelps went on to say, "These young men were MURDERED. It is our duty to bring to light the unfair treatment of Afghani freedom fighters labeled as Taliban soldiers. As much so as the Westboro Baptist church and their members are unfairly labeled as domestic terrorists in America. The weapons used to kill these innocent freedom fighters would be better used against the military personnel of homosexual supporting nations like the United States and France."
The WBC plans to use funds earned in recent lawsuits against several cities who the church has sued for the violation of their 1st amendment rights to pay for the flights to the province. Fox News' Glenn Beck has been invited to travel with the group according to Phelps.

"Mr. Beck truly understand God's word and the Westboro Baptist churches function. He has even offered the group a weekly segment on his program entitled "God, Guns and Guts Save America From Liberal Nuts."
According to Phelps, details are are still being worked out, but believes it would be a match made in heaven.

No specific date was given for when the flight would take place, but according to a spokesman, the church has many dates already booked for various protests and pickets, but this atrocity will be worked in, even if "an American funeral goes unanswered."

Calls to Fox News and Glenn Beck for comment and clarification went unanswered Friday.
