Maher has his beliefs and he does not back down. Maher also gives people with opposite views a forum on his show to speak. Can the same be said for Rush?
Maher will apologize to his viewers when his 3 panel guests are all made up of Dems. He truly wants to have a Republican or two represented on his panel show every week.

This is true. I LOVE him but his show is SO much better when he has conservatives and libs debating. And I do find most of the actors/actresses boring guests. Occasionally he does get a good one though.

Actually, Rush takes a lot of calls from people who disagree with him so yes he's giving them a forum. Does he give them 45 minutes? No, but he doesn't give anyone that kind of time. He generally doesn't have guests. In fact it's very very rare, and that includes guests from his side of the political table.

Rush calls a left wing woman a "whore."

Maher calls a right wing woman a "cunt."

There have been many episodes where I grow tired of the "celeb" guests that appear approx 35 minutes into the show.
My favorite portion of the show is the 1st interview guest and the 3 member panel.

Now that's he on HBO, I have been watching the program since
his debut season. Look forward to his new episode very single week.
Glad the show is back for the late summer/fall, leading up
to the election.

Getting canned by ABC was the best thing that ever happened to him. The controversial nature of his firing was what interested HBO the most because by that time his ratings on ABC were slipping and they had been tinkering with the format. The show was very tame and had many more celebrities (often C list: Scott Ian types) who were often dissapointing because they froze up when on camera. It seemed innovative in the mid 90s but by the early 2000s it wasn't drawing flies.
Bill was given an opportunity with HBO and hit the ball out of the park. Proved to the world that he really does do his homework and was given much more creative freedom.
