Have you voted for a politician that was not of your party?

Most of the posters here seem to be pretty clearly in one camp or the other. I'm curious, how often have you been able to convince yourself that the guy in "your" camp just sucked so bad you would rather have a member of the other party running things?

I've never voted for a Democrat in a presidential election and probably would not. Same for the House and Senate. However, on local matters and state house and senate I have often pulled the lever for a Democrat.

Usually it is because the incumbant did something so against my conservative values I'd rather just not have him there. Sometimes it has been because they are corrupt. Very rarely, There is a moderate Dem on the ticket that just seems to "get it" and I feel they woud look out for my interests better than the guy in "my" party.

So, any of you liberals willing to cop to doing the same?

I do not consider myself a Republican since I do not agree with all of their stand on some issues, as the same goes with the Dems. There's good ideas on both sides, but sadly not enough to make me choose any one party. I've always considered myself an independent because I choose to vote for the candidate, not the party..
And that candidate has to convince me to vote for them.

Skipped the 2004 elections because I liked neither candidate and wasn't a Nader fan.

Missed voting the 2008 election due to a family emergency and voting was the last thing on my mind at that time. If I were to have voted, I probably would have went with Obama since I felt McCain lost control of his campaign and I wasn't impressed on his VP choice..

Right now I'm on the fence on whether I will vote this time around either. As I have said, I'm tired of the lesser of two evils choices..

I'm conservative, but I voted Clinton in '96 ... I felt then (and now), that he had what it took and got a lot done, despite his wandering dick.

I voted for Hatfield and Packwood both, as Oregon Senators, in the past....but their brand of Republicanism is no longer welcome in the GOP. Though Romney acted much of the same when he was Gov. of MA.

Also the former Mayor of my town. Republican, but he was concerned about the welfare of the city in a way I really respected and even ran for another term and won when he really wanted to be done, because he felt very strongly about preparing for growth (waste water treatment, etc.).

There is one Democrat I will vote against till the day he dies (or me, the bugger will probably outlive me), the highest level of office he's run for is State Rep. and now he's on the County Commission. The guy is such a tool.

Voted for Jon Huntsman for our Governor simply because he was the first ever "R" in this state that actually listened to the other side once in awhile. He's also the first one that I can remember that didn't consult the mormon church before making major decisions. He even did a little bit to liberalize our liquor laws, pulling us ever so closely to the 20th century.

Sadly though, he accepted that ambassadorship to China and saddled us with his retarded Lieutenant Governor Gary Herbert; who in under three years has managed to undo all the good his predecessor managed to accomplish.

I remember getting screwed in Salt Lake by buying a six pack of Heineken in a grocery store at night. I figured, "There's no WAY Heineken makes 3.2 beer."
