Question for the right wing of Sludge
A couple of questions since many of you have very strong beliefs in the Republican party and I was curious about a few things regarding the upcoming election.
First of all, what do you admire about or view as your reasons for supporting the party?
Politifact has been having a heyday with some of Romney and Ryan's claims and skewering them for their half truths or no truth at all and I was wondering if it has any effect on how you view the candidates?
Or since most all politicians stretch the truth in attempts to get elected/re-elected, that their comments are just part of the political game and you can ignore them?
Also do you think that the candidates actually care about bi-partisanship and would actually attempt to work with the other side?
Also, do you feel you've heard enough of Romney's plans if he is elected that he can turn the country around, fix the economy (and NOT raise taxes on anyone, but by merely closing loopholes,) and get 12 million people employed?
Do you think America has gotten soft under the current administration and Obama has weakened the view of the US as a "Don't fuck with us" nation or do you think that we are still viewed as the sleeping lion and Obama would step into another war if pushed?
Do you think more military spending and cutbacks on other things are the answer and a step in the right direction?
Do you feel Romney has enough experience in doing so and can do this in four years or will he have to "fix what Obama broke" first?
Honest answer please: Are you voting for Romney for the mere reason that you do not like Obama and want no Democrat near the White House?
Do you think that Fox News is actually fair and balanced and there is an actual concern for all citizens of America?
Do you feel there is a liberal media agenda against the Republican party?
This is a chance to tell your side/views of the GOP choice for president Mitt Romney and why you will likely cast your vote for him for the rest of the War Boarders..
For those less eloquent/lazy you may use the excuse of "I don't care for him, but he's better'n Obama")

Re: Question for the right wing of Sludge
i've answered all but one question above, but i'll give the lazy man answer.Luminiferous wrote:A couple of questions since many of you have very strong beliefs in the Republican party and I was curious about a few things regarding the upcoming election.

i think i've pretty much been a conservative person all my life.i like my privacy, i have morals and i'm not a pilfering thief, so, i don't think the government needs to be in my business, telling me what to do and what not.
(although some people do need regulating, for example: the government officials)
Politifact has been having a heyday with some of Romney and Ryan's claims and skewering them for their half truths or no truth at all and I was wondering if it has any effect on how you view the candidates?
Or since most all politicians stretch the truth in attempts to get elected/re-elected, that their comments are just part of the political game and you can ignore them?
i'm not sure, i haven't checked politifacts for romney OR obama.
Also do you think that the candidates actually care about bi-partisanship and would actually attempt to work with the other side?
i would hope that what romney says about working across the aisles is true. didn't he do that while governor? obama's past history has not shown through, and i don't believe that republicans were working against america to spite obama.
Also, do you feel you've heard enough of Romney's plans if he is elected that he can turn the country around, fix the economy (and NOT raise taxes on anyone, but by merely closing loopholes,) and get 12 million people employed?
going back to, if we look at the past three year history and what obama did and says what he'll do forward against what romney says he'll do, is it a fair comparison?
Do you think America has gotten soft under the current administration and Obama has weakened the view of the US as a "Don't fuck with us" nation or do you think that we are still viewed as the sleeping lion and Obama would step into another war if pushed?
i actually am pretty saddened that the president went on an apology tour the first year.who cares if other countries think we're lazy, arrogant whatnot, thanks for showing confidence in america, obama. even ted kennedy said, 'i'd never talk bad about america while visiting other countries.'
but, to answer your question, no, i'm not for war, i have no idea what obama's narrative is. but, things are getting rough over in the middle east, wouldn't you agree?
what do you think we should be doing?
Do you think more military spending and cutbacks on other things are the answer and a step in the right direction?
i would say military spending shouldn't be cut back. quite a bit is for security.
also,we'll have a lot of unemployed troops. they're be the first to go.( i won't even mention their benefits, those have long gone...)
Do you feel Romney has enough experience in doing so and can do this in four years or will he have to "fix what Obama broke" first?
i should hope so on the economy. but, there's been a bit of uprising in the middle east, and other places, in which, i'm not sure. i'm also not sure on obama's capability, either.
Honest answer please: Are you voting for Romney for the mere reason that you do not like Obama and want no Democrat near the White House?
silly, that i would answer all questions above and then answer yes to this.
you might have well asked because he was black? (i mean, 'is')
...did i just admit i was voting romney?
Do you think that Fox News is actually fair and balanced and there is an actual concern for all citizens of America?
i don't know why people are paranoid about fox, aren't they the only right leaning channel vs. 8?
Do you feel there is a liberal media agenda against the Republican party?
i don't know. they do a lot of cheerleading and defending of one party only, that's what i've noticed.
This is a chance to tell your side/views of the GOP choice for president Mitt Romney and why you will likely cast your vote for him for the rest of the War Boarders..
For those less eloquent/lazy you may use the excuse of "I don't care for him, but he's better'n Obama")
i wasn't happy about the last term, so i'm voting someone else in. if that doesn't go well, i'll vote for someone else.
how's that for democracy?
Luminiferous, are you asking all these questions of all parties because you haven't decided?
Addedum: i did vote for clinton for his second term.

I want to comment on a few things.

You like your privacy and don't want the govt in your business but you have no problem letting the govt into mine and think they have the right to tell me what I can and cannot do with my body.
You should be checking that site and factcheck.org on BOTH candidates.
Also do you think that the candidates actually care about bi-partisanship and would actually attempt to work with the other side?
i would hope that what romney says about working across the aisles is true. didn't he do that while governor? obama's past history has not shown through, and i don't believe that republicans were working against america to spite obama.
Obama has tried very hard to work with republicans. He came into office very far to the left and immediately moved toward the center. Hell, there are times I wonder if he is really republican.
I can't decipher what you said there. Quite a few economists have said that he can't do what he says he is going to do. NOT raise taxes, increase defense spending, clos loopholes (but he won't say which ones), and salvage medicare, etc just doesn't equate with reducing the deficit. Unfortunately just getting rid of PBS and Big Bird are not going to really do much.
Where do people keep getting this "apology tour" nonsense? Just because he was respectful and agreed to work with other nations instead of the "you are either with us or against us" bullshit mindset of George W, does not mean he apologized. How can you criticize him if you don't even know what his "narrative", as you put it, is? Perhaps you should rush up on it and then make a decision.
Our military budget is so over inflated it is ridiculous. We have planes (excuse me, jets, the F-22) that we paid 143 million dollars a piece for that have NEVER flown a combat mission despite our involvement in 2 wars and the military action in Libya. Talk about waste. One of those planes could allow Big Bird to stay on Sesame Street for years. And while the air force hasn't bought any new ones since 2009 we still pay millions for their upkeep. That is money that could be spent directly on the wounded and disabled troops who are coming home.

NO news source should be leaning in one direction. It is fine to have op-ed pieces but when a network strays to far to a side they are not influencing the news and NOT just reporting it. And yes, MSNBC does it as well
Do you feel there is a liberal media agenda against the Republican party?

No I expected honesty in all the answers, but though some may skirt this one and act like it wasn't a possibility when I know some DO have to feel this way..absolutely fabulous wrote:Honest answer please: Are you voting for Romney for the mere reason that you do not like Obama and want no Democrat near the White House?

Actually I am undecided. I haven't seen or heard anything that has made me lean one way or another as far as my voting in November. I vote for a person, not a party and right now you might have to include me in the 80-90 million who may not vote at all, but it's 63 days away, so who knows...absolutely fabulous wrote:Luminiferous, are you asking all these questions of all parties because you haven't decided?

As for the 3 threads, I am generally curious as to other's stand on the election and how they feel and what their views are concerning the party in question and their candidate.. Nothing more.

you know i have a problem with abortion and taking responsibility for birth control, and i understand you're on the other side. and that's ok.
believe me, conservatives aren't going to take away your right to abortion or birth control. is there something else we're missing that you're pissed about?is it insurance approved abortion? the government paying for it?

perhaps, i may have said it better, i might not trust fact checking sites.

Obama has tried very hard to work with republicans. He came into office very far to the left and immediately moved toward the center. Hell, there are times I wonder if he is really republican.
the republicans have submitted proposals for healthcare and the budget. obama even feigned a personal meeting with republicans that was a walkway with no agreements. are you saying they proposed no good ideas or they just flat out refused to work w/ obama?

as much as i'd like to go through all his first year tour giving you time points of his speeches, i doubt you'd see it the way i do.
and what is obama's doctrine?

actually pbs could buy 3.1 of those jets per year.
hey, i don't have a problem cutting out spending that I THINK is wasteful and i'm sure you would agree too, however, we have no idea the amounts the military defense needs. they will give up military jobs before they give up defense mechanisms.
and you meant military action in libya before guadaffi's death last year, right? when he threatened to attack benghazi?

i apologize, luminiferous, i didn't vote for obama because i didn't think he was qualified, and although four years may not be enough time for him, four more years is two much time to hope he can make things better.
as i said i'm giving this same litmus to romney.

i don't see how fox is not reporting news. they report all sorts of news. they have a liberal and republican to site their own views as guests to spar and the host is cordial about it. there's even a ticker that crawls with news. unlike msnbc, they're now falling into an op-ed show with nothing but the hosts view, and a ticker that only shows favorable tweets.
abc, nbc, cbs only have a half hour show on world news so they're only directing one view, theirs. eh, i mean their producer.
i'm sure you do.

You like your privacy and don't want the govt in your business but you have no problem letting the govt into mine and think they have the right to tell me what I can and cannot do with my body.
you know i have a problem with abortion and taking responsibility for birth control, and i understand you're on the other side. and that's ok.
believe me, conservatives aren't going to take away your right to abortion or birth control. is there something else we're missing that you're pissed about?is it insurance approved abortion? the government paying for it?
Conservatives ARE trying very are to take away abortion rights. They are doing it by introducing legislation that are forcing abortion clinics to close, making them harder to obtain and even worse continuing to try to pass "Personhood Bills". Do you realize how dangerous those Personhood Bills are? By affording full rights to a fertilized egg it would make it illegal to treat a woman for an ectopic pregnancy. And that is just one example of the problem with those bills. But conservative cont to try to get them passed. It has even happened in my state. THAT is what scares me about it. NOT who is going to pay for it.
You should be checking that site and factcheck.org on BOTH candidates.
perhaps, i may have said it better, i might not trust fact checking sites.
Those sites are nonpartisan. They skewer Obama and other Democrats when they lie/ or mislead. You really should check them out. The call EVERYONE on their bullshit. They give you a way to sort through the crap the politicians sell you so you can make an INFORMED choice.
Hell, there are times I wonder if he is really republican.
the republicans have submitted proposals for healthcare and the budget. obama even feigned a personal meeting with republicans that was a walkway with no agreements. are you saying they proposed no good ideas or they just flat out refused to work w/ obama?
The republicans said from day one their number one goal was to make Obama a one term president. Since that was their "number one goal" and not the country and it's welfare. I am skeptical of anything they have done or proposed as being for the good of this country.
I can't decipher what you said there. Quite a few economists have said that he can't do what he says he is going to do. NOT raise taxes, increase defense spending, clos loopholes (but he won't say which ones), and salvage medicare, etc just doesn't equate with reducing the deficit. Unfortunately just getting rid of PBS and Big Bird are not going to really do much.
quite a few economist have said he could. my economist vs. your economist blathering, no win situation..
I would like to see a link to a reputable and independent study or economist that says that his plan can work.
Where do people keep getting this "apology tour" nonsense? Just because he was respectful and agreed to work with other nations instead of the "you are either with us or against us" bullshit mindset of George W, does not mean he apologized. How can you criticize him if you don't even know what his "narrative", as you put it, is? Perhaps you should rush up on it and then make a decision.
as much as i'd like to go through all his first year tour giving you time points of his speeches, i doubt you'd see it the way i do.
and what is obama's doctrine?
Since when is NOT being a bully and using diplomacy a bad thing?
Do you think more military spending and cutbacks on other things are the answer and a step in the right direction?
i would say military spending shouldn't be cut back. quite a bit is for security.
also,we'll have a lot of unemployed troops. they're be the first to go.( i won't even mention their benefits, those have long gone...)
That is money that could be spent directly on the wounded and disabled troops who are coming home.
actually pbs could buy 3.1 of those jets per year.
hey, i don't have a problem cutting out spending that I THINK is wasteful and i'm sure you would agree too, however, we have no idea the amounts the military defense needs. they will give up military jobs before they give up defense mechanisms.
and you meant military action in libya before guadaffi's death last year, right? when he threatened to attack benghazi?
Actually, PBS could NOT buy 3.1 of those planes. The budget for Corporation for Public Broadcasting which includes PBS and NPR is about 440 million a year. It is divided between those two. PBS gets about 220 million. Which is THEN divided between PBS and all the affiliates. After all is said and done. PBS get about 77 million from the federal govt. The smaller stations in the more rural markets, however rely on that money to stay on the air.
And I meant the jet hasn't seen any combat AT ALL. Nada. Zip. Zilch Zero. 143 million dollars times however many of the fuckers we bought just hanging out doing fly overs at NASCAR races looking cool.
Do you feel Romney has enough experience in doing so and can do this in four years or will he have to "fix what Obama broke" first?
Honest answer please: Are you voting for Romney for the mere reason that you do not like Obama and want no Democrat near the White House?
silly, that i would answer all questions above and then answer yes to this.
you might have well asked because he was black? (i mean, 'is')
...did i just admit i was voting romney?
i apologize, luminiferous, i didn't vote for obama because i didn't think he was qualified, and although four years may not be enough time for him, four more years is two much time to hope he can make things better.
as i said i'm giving this same litmus to romney.
Do you think that Fox News is actually fair and balanced and there is an actual concern for all citizens of America?
i don't know why people are paranoid about fox, aren't they the only right leaning channel vs. 8?
NO news source should be leaning in one direction. It is fine to have op-ed pieces but when a network strays to far to a side they are not influencing the news and NOT just reporting it. And yes, MSNBC does it as well
i don't see how fox is not reporting news. they report all sorts of news. they have a liberal and republican to site their own views as guests to spar and the host is cordial about it. there's even a ticker that crawls with news. unlike msnbc, they're now falling into an op-ed show with nothing but the hosts view, and a ticker that only shows favorable tweets.
abc, nbc, cbs only have a half hour show on world news so they're only directing one view, theirs. eh, i mean their producer.

Strong defense and economic responsibilty and gun rights and hunting rights are my main issues. Only bi-partisan things going on is if both sides want it. I am voting for ROmney and Ryan no matter what. I think Romney can get the jobs going. Obama is a fucking pussy communist who is destoying this country. I feel our military needs to be focused mostly. I feel fox news is fair and balanced. I think ROmney can fix things. There is a liberal agenda against Republicans and that includes fabrications.Luminiferous wrote:A couple of questions since many of you have very strong beliefs in the Republican party and I was curious about a few things regarding the upcoming election.

-For about the last eighteen years, there hasn't been much to admire about my party. I think they've mostly lost their fucking minds but I'm beginning to question that they may have never been in their right minds to begin with. To be blunt, the moderates of the party, guys like Eisenhower and Ford have either died off or tucked balls and run. I can't relate to guys like Newt, Mitch McConnell, Ryan, Romney and guys like that.
-Politifact nails the fuck out of Ryan. He is a HUGE bullshit artist. Romney isn't quite as bad. They nail the President and VP on more than a few things too but you don't really need Politifact to find out that Romney talks out of both sides of his ass, often.
-I don't think the Tea Party wants a fucking thing to do with bipartisanship and since they run Congress(THANK YOU FOR THAT AMERICA) shit is sort of fucked right now. Perhaps Obama could have been better at massaging their egos the way Clinton did back in the 90s but W.'s administration wasn't about massaging Democrat's egos so why should Obama's have to return the favor?
-The only way I see gridlock in Washington stopping is if the Tea Party get voted out of Congress and Moderate Republicans grow some balls and take their party back or the American people discover the error of their ways and vote the Democrats back into Congress. Congress has stonewalled the fuck out of the Obama administration, they also know what needs to get done and if Romney gets elected they will do it for him. Also, while the Democrat majority in the House under Reagan may have given him a hard time, they didn't stone wall the fuck out of him. BIG difference. Reagan also was beyond moderate in many ways, even though Fox News and a whole bunch of other bullshit artists try and claim differently. Although Reagan perpetuated that whole image of himself as a "tough Conservative" To this day, my dad thinks Reagan balanced the budget, cut taxes across the board and never raised taxes once. I literally had to show him that wasn't true.
-I don't think America has gotten soft at all. If fact, Obama said he would close Guantanamo when campaigning in 2008 and never did once he got into office. He also didn't repeal the Patriot Act, which I think he was threatening to do in 2008 as well. No, Obama's foreign policy has closely mirrored the Neo-Cons, however I find him to be a little better of a leader when it comes to foreign policy than either W. or Clinton, both of whom were pretty dreadful. Obama's not perfect but he's better than those two and probably has to deal with bullshit right now that you and I can't even imagine.
-If we need to make huge cuts in spending then yeah, all THREE Big Ticket items need to go on the chopping block, Social Security, Medicare/Medicaid and the Military, those are the Big 3 and what is costing us so much money. But it's unlikely that will happen, and actually not very realistic unless somebody pulls a rabbit out of their ass soon. I guess we can always just shit on the poor, since they appear to not pay any income tax and are somehow living in Fat City in all of this. I'm not sure what % of GDP foodstamps and welfare are but from what I've read it's nowhere near the three big ticket items I previously mentioned.
-I can't say I agree that Obama broke anything. What I don't agree with Obama doing is putting in place his health care bill. He should have saved that for a second term once it was clear the economy was positively back on track, so it wasn't a tool his political foes could use against him, even if his biggest critic currently passed it into law at the state level while he was governor of Massachusetts.
And NO, I don't think Romney can fix a bunch of shit in 4 years, just like Obama said he was going to fix a bunch of shit in 4 years and didn't and just like Reagan said he was going to fix a bunch of shit in 4 years and didn't. Same thing with Clinton, both had real rocky first terms but their flock of sheep really know how to serve the Kool Aid and I have to admit, both were excellent salesmen.
-I'm not voting for Romney. I will vote Republican again, once the Tea Party is pushed off a cliff and back into the deep abyss in the special pit of hell from which they came.
-FUCK NO! I watched Fox News for years, there is no one better to tell you that a company sucks and is full of shit that a former customer. Honestly, I'm more concerned with just how much Fox News appears to have brainwashed the fuck out of the American People. I'm ashamed to admit I use to think Bill O'Reilly was the real deal back in the 90s. But I never did like Sean Hannity, I always thought that guy was an asshole. I'm not sure why I liked Bill, I think he reminded me of my dad.
-No there isn't much of a liberal bias in the media at all these days. 40 years ago, during the Vietnam War, okay, I can see a strong argument for that but over the last 25-30 years? Fuck no, not even! If anything, there is a conservative bias in the media.
-Reasons why I won't vote for Mitt:
#1-Implemented government run health care at the State level but in the debates last week called Obamacare a "hostile government takeover" Everybody agrees, including the guy who held Romney and Obama's hands through the process that Romneycare and Obamacare are virtually the same thing, so I fail to see how it's some big, government take over at the Federal level but not at the State level, a government take over is a government take over
#2-I have a difficult time reconciling how Romney and other conservatives are always bragging on and on about how they want to stay the fuck out of the American people's personal lives and business but when it comes to women and their vagina's, somehow these assholes all have an opinion and bill at the ready to be turned into law telling women what to do. Same with gay marriage, let Ellen and that hot piece of ass Portia De Rossi get married, let Elton and his boyfriend get married, it certainly isn't impeding on my personal freedoms if they do. The hypocrisy factor by the conservatives here is mind numbing.
#3-I think Paul Ryan is a douche bag
#4-Romney's 47% comments on that tape were pretty fucked up
#5-Came off as a real uppity, rich dick in both Presidential debates
#6-Doesn't really seem like he has a soul, maybe that's a error in judgment on my end but more than anything, it seems like he just wants to lower taxes for the upper 1% as much as possible while the rest of the country gets to fight over the table scraps.
