See, now you're just being adversarial.VinnieKulick wrote:Who said it was a waste of money?KneelandBobDylan wrote:I'm sure this waste of money is Obama's fault somehow. These things only take what...4 or 5 months to develop?
VinnieKulick wrote:No, you're the only person who mentioned cost.
I'm saying, what's so bad about it being developed?
I am sure it costs less than this healthcare takeover the government wants.KneelandBobDylan wrote:VinnieKulick wrote:No, you're the only person who mentioned cost.

Cost, for one.
Maybe, but the "health care takeover the government wants" might actually work....where as this.....VinnieKulick wrote:I am sure it costs less than this healthcare takeover the government wants.KneelandBobDylan wrote:VinnieKulick wrote:No, you're the only person who mentioned cost.

Yep and the Reagan Administration pumped trillions into it.MickeyG wrote:Wasn't this something the Reagan administration used to bullshit the Russians into overspending and thus brought about the collapse of the Soviet Union?
Well, it DID work. It shot down the targeted missile. Granted I would say that land-based lasers would be more feasible since it requires so much chemical fuel that a modified 747 can only hold several rounds.KneelandBobDylan wrote:

Nice, it shot down a missile. The only thing is, if someone launches on us, it's going to be more than one. A LOT more.lerxstcat wrote:Well, it DID work. It shot down the targeted missile. But directed energy weapons are going to be the next big future development, and we need to develop them at least as fast as the next guy or we will be at a huge military disadvantage.
Also, directed energy weapons might be a good way of dealing with incoming near-Earth objects like comets and asteroids. Frankly I think that would be a better direction to spend money towards.
Because it doesn't matter what we're doing down here, if a big asteroid hits us we are all fucked, probably extinct. They're finding more and more of them every year.
Well, I had a conversion about a year ago, haven't really been a rightie for at least that long. In fact, from 1976 to now, the ONLY GOP I ever voted for was Bush in 2004. Jimmy Carter through Al Gore all got my vote.KneelandBobDylan wrote:Nice, it shot down a missile. The only thing is, if someone launches on us, it's going to be more than one. I find it funny that righties are so worried about the deficit (now), but anything the military-industrial complex marches out gives them wood, regardless of cost.
