Palin pwned by Down Syndrome actress

If I have this straight, Family Guy runs an episode where Chris dates a girl with down syndrome who at one point claims she's the daughter of the former Alaska Governer.
Palin hits the Facebook the next day and rants about how much of a "kick to the gut" the episode was to say such things about her family, but her rant reveals she never saw the episode, which never explicitly mocked her son.
She was also unaware that the actress voicing the retarded girl on Family Guy is a rather famous DS actress herself! She went public with a statement:
Andrea Fay Friedman wrote:My name is Andrea Fay Friedman. I was born with Down syndrome. I played the role of Ellen on the "Extra Large Medium" episode of Family Guy that was broadcast on Valentine's day. Although they gave me red hair on the show, I am really a blonde. I also wore a red wig for my role in " Smudge" but I was a blonde in "Life Goes On". I guess former Governor Palin does not have a sense of humor. I thought the line "I am the daughter of the former governor of Alaska" was very funny. I think the word is "sarcasm".
In my family we think laughing is good. My parents raised me to have a sense of humor and to live a normal life. My mother did not carry me around under her arm like a loaf of French bread the way former Governor Palin carries her son Trig around looking for sympathy and votes.

i think it's wrong to exploit this girls response, because it has no bearing on what the shows intent.
so, she said it was funny, sarcasm..
to make fun of what she's had to overcome?
what about her parents?
have they had the media, political pundits, comedians crack jokes about them concerning their child?
i think that makes it a different story, but paint it as the same, whatever.
wouldn't have been soo funny if she claimed to be clooney, jolie, obama's child.

They probably hired her for the role for just that reason. Otherwise they could have gotten any actress to PLAY Down's Syndrome instead. Her reaction may have even been genuine, but it was likely contrived by the producers - who'll never admit they wouldn't have used her otherwise.
Because that wouldn't be PC. But apparently, this is.

Palin wouldn't have had a problem with it if Rush Limbaugh had done the voice over..
He makes the word 'retard' funny!

This isn't some sad little girl you need to feel sorry for. She's a very successful actress who willingly takes these roles of her own free will and she's what my mother would call "high functioning", meaning she can take care of herself for the most part.
She made the point that she can have a sense of humor about herself, and that's probably how she's gotten as far as she has. I say more power to her.

No, she's not a highly succsesful actress, no one would know who the fuck she was If she didn't jump on the oppurtunity to gain publicity for herself, what's she done 6 Television guest spots? the biggest one being an episode where Mcfarlane so cleverly takes a shot at Palin to purposley cause a controversy.
as for her "point" that She can have a sense of humor about herself, thats a crock of shit, there aren't a shiload of people in the media and literally thousands of bloggers constantly making fun of "Her". She's the Down syndrome veresion of Tina Fey, Jumping on the bash Palin bandwagon to try and further her career, and it'll work for a couple weeks as I'm sure there will be plenty of liberals who'll want to drag her on their show to kiss her ass thus using her as a "prop"like Mcfarlane did. What's funny is Palin using her Kids for political reasons supposedly enraged the left which is what most use as an excuse everytime they attack her family.
I could give a fuck about the whole thing as this issue makes most adults revert back to the 5th grade with their stupid childish attacks, but lets not blow this chicks career and her "point" out of proportion.

Well actually I looked her up and I recognise her right away....I've seen her in a number of things, including some TV series from years ago...
Just saying. It isn't like there are a bunch of young actresses with Down Syndrome.
edit...here's her IMDB page..."Life Goes On"...that was the show. She's the female Corky, in fact she played his girlfriend.

Oh, and she nominated for an Emmy for a guest starring role and last year, a documentary about her was made, narrated by Joanne woodward.
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0295141/
So...it isn't like no one has ever heard of her...maybe you haven't. But don't let that harsh your buzz!

The sad thing is, I find Sarah Palin to be funnier than Family Guy. That show BLOWS.

Define "successful", then. Looks like she's the go-to girl for a female DS role, but the roles listed don't look to me like enough income to support someone from 1992 to 2010 - do they to you? Not knocking her acheivements but I would say a reasonable definition of "successful" would be making your living doing it.
And really, did YOU hear of her before you looked her up at IMDB? Sure you recognized the shows she was in and THEN put it together that she was DS girl in each of them, but it's not like you really knew of her and her career before this latest flak over Palin.
Again, power to her for what she has done, but she's not exactly the Julia Roberts of Down Syndrome actresses. She's had some character roles and was the subject of a documentary because of her condition and the fact she happens to be a good actress with DS, one of probably very few.
That means she gets the call when someone has a statement to make, and that's fine. But she's not even as famous as what's-his-name who played Corky was. Whatever happened to him, BTW?

I Didn't literally mean no one, I'm sure She has her own little fan club somwhere and it grew by a couple who'll probably demand she recieve another emmy nominaton for the family guy spot. It's just when I think of highly succsefull actresses I think about people like meryl streep, julia roberts etc etc.
I just find the whole thing comical considering this paticular prop slammed another person for using her kids as a prop. I have a feeling this DS actress and a shitload of people on the other side would be singing a different tune If all of the sudden thousands of blogs and a bunch of conservatives started Mocking her constantly.

Palin's brought most of that mockery on herself by refusing to stop seeking out media attention, though.
I can't think of another defeated veep candidate in my lifetime who has chased the spotlight post-election like Palin has. And she's gleaned attention, in large part, for doing shit so dumb it would embarrass the fuck out of your average Downy.

I remember that actress from being on Law & Order SVU and.. *gulp* 7th Heaven.
As for Palin, I'm hoping she just goes away already. I thought she was all right, now she's just annoying.

It's funny because Seth MacFarlane (Family Guy creator) spoofs EVERYONE.
Nothing is safe. Blacks, Jews, gays, Asians.... you name it. I guess it's better to make fun of everybody than pick on particular groups.
So I always love it when groups get up in arms over his stuff. They just look dumb for doing it.

I agree that she's no doubt a media seeker and she's constantly making a fool of herself, and I'm far from a supporter of hers, but in this situation She has every right to claim offense given she felt her kid was a direct target. Most polticians use their family as a "prop" and I agreed 100% with Obama when he called out his own supporters and said to leave the families out of it.
The most priceless moment from this whole thing came last week when Joy Behar back tracked like a mother fucker after John C Mcginley went on her show and called Mcfarlane a coward. Behar was all for the FG episode but as soon as one of her guests made some good points she sure as fuck changed her mind.

The thing that continues to baffle me about this whole thing is that the joke didn't really make a whole lot of sense, and did seem crafted with offense in mind. I personally suspect it's because "Family Guy" tanks in the ratings and needed the controversy.
Either way, I think this is as good a time as any to point out that most Downies really aren't all that stupid. I work with a bunch of 'em and some are smarter than a good number of my other co-workers who are of allegedly "normal" intelligence.

The funniest FG related moment is the Southpark episode that makes fun of it.

Fuck her and her little retard prop kid.
Palin is just like all other Republicans in that she doesn't give two fucks about anybody about herself. She has absolutely no social concerns for her entire career...and then suddenly she shits out a little mongoloid and all of a sudden she's the "special needs avenger!"
I can't wait for this cunt to run in 2012...I'm worried that it will be so brief, like Dan Quayl's 1996 presidential bid, that we won't get any fun out of it. but if she manages to win a primary or two it will be comic gold, and probably serve to fuck up the Republicans' chances of winning back the white house pretty good.

In fairness though, lots of people aren't concerned about particular issues until they themselves are directly affected by them.

setting aside politics, I'm sure If you or anyone else who had a kid with Down syndrome and a bunch of idiots were attaking you or or your kid about it You'd more than likley take issue with it. I've known a few "special needs" people from high school on up and the only people to harass or attack them were indeed cowards, and more often than not when they did it around the wrong people those people made sure they didn't do it again.
In all seriousness would you just let someone talk shit about you're kid or any other family member in that situation?

I didn't get the vibe that any of her kids were being picked on, just her. But again - the bit made no sense. Palin's Downy kid is an infant boy, the Family Guy character was a teenage girl. The bit was clearly designed for no purpose other than to elicit precisely the reaction that it did and Palin would have been better off ignoring it. Not that I'd expect her to because at the end of the day this controversy benefits both Palin herself and "Family Guy" because they've garnered themselves an equal amount of attention.

Agree about Downies....though some are profoundly retarded, most of us never see them...nothing more heartbreaking than seeing an elderly couple with a wheel chair bound Down Syndrome victim, one without any muscle control and their tongue very distended. All I could think of was who would care for this man when his parents passed?
On the other end, people like this woman, or those that have gotten PHDs....it's a broad spectrum..certainly not all DS people ae the same, or complete imbeciles by any means. Down's is certainly about more than intelligence...the myriad of health issues go way beyond retardation...
I also agree with your post above this one.

I agree, but there has been alot of sick shit said about that kid, hell it was old the minute the bloggers and certain columnists started in with the jokes and conspiracy theories 2 years ago. The whole prop thing is hypocritcal, they all use their families as props, it's always been that way, that's why I don't get the left/right aspect of it and why I agreed with Obama when he said to leave the families alone. You know damn well If someone made a spoof about his kids depicting them with huge afros and throwing in a sterotype like them using ebonics Obama would take issue with it and he would be in the right. Switch it around and say one of his kids had special needs and an idiot like limbaugh or beck mocked the kid, could you imagine the shitsorm? It's not about either party IMO.

It goes to what's acceptable and what isn't. Is mocking a celebrity's children for a laugh on national television acceptable? I don 't know. I guess it is, as long as it's not racially motivated. I'd call that an unfortunate slide in societal behavior, but she has every right to lash out at those that do it. It really shouldn't have anything to do with politics.

Well if you put it like that, if Family Guy depicted the Obama daughters grown up as welfare crack hos or as slaves or something, I think people would open their eyes a bit more. I think Palin needs to go away but if you're going to make fun of her child for something out of his control, like a mental handicap (or skin color) then even if you hate her you have to at least feign the fact that it's a double standard.
