JAKARTA, Indonesia – Scores of Islamic students staged protests outside Jakarta's parliament and in at least three other major Indonesian cities on Friday against President Barack Obama's upcoming visit to this predominantly Muslim country.

The students carried banners branding Obama as an enemy of Islam and an imperialist in downtown Jakarta as well as in the provincial capitals Padang, Yogyakarta and Surabaya.

They also threw shoes at large pictures of Obama's head. An Iraqi journalist was sentenced to a year in prison for throwing his shoes at U.S. President George W. Bush during a news conference in Baghdad in 2008.

Protest organizer Ahmad Irhamul Fikri, spokesman for the Coordinating Board for Campus Proselytizing Institute, said bigger rallies will be staged next Friday in more Indonesian cities ahead of Obama's March 20-22 visit.

Such demonstrations of hostility toward Obama are rare in Indonesia, where he enjoys widespread popularity because he spend part of his childhood in Jakarta while his mother was married to his Indonesian stepfather.

Local government officials allowed business people to erect a statue of a 10-year-old Obama in a Jakarta park in December. But it was shifted last month to a nearby elementary school that he attended after more than 50,000 people supported a Facebook campaign against it and court action was threatened.

Obama is expected to sign the statue's pedestal while in Jakarta.

That should be a good thing, right?

And even the guy who spearheaded the facebook campaign to have the statue moved from the public park likes and admires Obama, considers him a very good man..he and the others just felt that a statue in such a prominent place should be reserved for Indonesian heroes....which I do not argue with.

Not that it materially affects the point you're making, but a score of something is 20, not 12. Lincoln's "fourscore and seven" was written and said in 1863 about the Declaration of Independence 87 years earlier, in 1776.

I don't want him to hate Muslims. I want him to hate Islam, a religion of violence and terror. But he doesn't, he bows to their leaders like an ass kissing pussy.

His health care plans are socialist. I fully support his health care reform plans, the current system isn't working for anyone but the big boys. But to call socialized health care anything but.. socialist.. would be wrong.

Last, he says one thing - "peace", but does another - "war". Quite simple, really.

Muslims are brainwashed people. You could say the same for the followers of most / every religion, however, Islam is the most militant, violent, and discriminatory of them all. Obama, by bowing to the leaders of the billion+ brainwashed Muslims, makes him a Muslim sympathizer. No western head of state, let alone the President, should ever bow to another, as in western culture bowing has been an act of servitude for centuries, and continues to be one. But they didn't bow back, implying Obama is their bitch. It is irrelevant who the the guest is and who the host is, mutual respect would have meant that both parties bowed to each other.
