Students sent home for wearing AMERICAN clothing

Cinco De Mayo is a big deal in a town that's 40% hispanic, and five students were sent home for wearing American flag clothing, (even though some of the students are part Mexican) after they refused to turn their shirts inside out.

Best quotes from the students "I'm American, I can't wear my own colors?"

"I think it's disrepectful to America to turn this shirt inside out."

What sickened me yesterday (when I was sporting my ROCK THE VOTE shirt, btw) was how many of the Hispanic people I work with were insisting that Cinco de Mayo is a celebration of Mexican Independence. Um, NO, it's to commemorate the Mexicans winning a battle against the French (and, as an aside, if we commemorated the French losing battles in general, we'd be partying every day!) The other thing was that many of the people who have been most vehement in their SUPPORT of the current AZ law that requires showing proof of citizenship were the very ones who were making huge plans for "Drinko de Mayo". Hypocrites much?

Seriously, I realize that this just happens to be an excuse for marketers to target the Hispanic market, but I haven't seen America celebrating OTHER countries' military successes and making a big deal about it.

I like how the media kept saying the Suns were showing their support for the latino population by wearing the "los suns" jersey, even though they were going to wear them anyway per usual on may 5th, Oh and they've done it before as have the heat and spurs but now...now all of the sudden it's political  good PR move even if it's a lie I'm sure they sold alot of those jerseys last night.
