Muslims DID make HUGE contributions to the sciences. Without zero how do you have binary code and computers?

I'm more upset that Obama seems to have nixed the Mars missions as far as harm done to NASA. The space program has been the primary driver for technological advancement for the past 50 years.

ARABS made those advances in math and science, not "Muslims". The Arabs who came up with all that great math and science predated Islam by centuries.

You have a good point, but the official "sifir" was formalized in 976 as I said, and there is no doubt that despite the earlier civilizations having a "zero" concept, it WAS Muslim Arabs who passed this idea on to Europeans, who'd previously used the system of Roman numerals, which would be pretty cumbersome to write computer code in.

So as far as who gave it to OUR civilization - Muslim Arabs, or for all we know it may have even been Turks. The Turks were actually our primary peaceful contacts from the world of Islam during the Middle Ages, even though they did end up exterminating the Byzantines. The Arabs were more about jihad, while the Turks were about trade and coexistence, comparatively speaking.

Those things are true, they ruled Greece and much of the Balkans for centuries after they destroyed the Byzantine Empire. But they were still more tolerant of Christians and Jews than most other Muslim nations. They weren't as hardcore about Islam as the Arabs were overall.
