Beck/Palin Presidential Ticket?

Ok, this should be a fun thread... Yesterday, after Glen Beck's rally in DC, a reporter asked Sarah Palin if they would consider a Beck/Palin ticket for the next Presidential race, in which she responded something along the lines of "I like what I'm doing now."

But, as all sensationalized media does, this is now a topic on many news shows and discussions, so what's the Sludge take on this?

Personally, I do like Beck (fuck off in advance) but I don't think I want him running for any kind of office. (although if it were between him and Obama, I'd vote Beck)

Discuss and Flame away...

If Beck's fucked up past wasn't bad enough, the fact that he's a Mormon would probably be the nail on the coffin. The whole magic underwear thing would be easy fodder for his opponents, not to mention overt racism the Mormon church practiced up until the late 70's. Mormonism was, and always will be a hindrance even for professional politicians like Romney if they want to run for president. Sure, they can get elected as state politicians, and sometimes even senators or congressmen, and Romney really beat the odds by becoming governor of Massachusetts. But the presidency? No fucking way.

Interesting...

I guess the suicide stuff explains his fanatical religious viewpoints. I'm guessing when he found God he found a will to live or vice versa.

Beck does seem to have a huge following, and like I said, I do like a lot of what he says, but there's something about him that just makes me not want him to run for office. And I don't think he will, but you never know.

I doubt he ever seriously contemplated suicide and I doubt the sincerity of his religious beliefs. That's a promotional story line. He's a con man. He's about a religious as the clowns in prison looking for parole.
I've wondered about that, but if he's going to find God, why pick Mormonism? Why not just go Catholic, or some other more mainstream religion? The Mormon church, besides having quite a few skeletons in it's closet, is pretty strict and requires a lot from it's members. There are rules to follow and obligations to be kept and if they aren't, they'll change your status from active to inactive, or excommunicate you altogether. It would have been much easier for him to simply say he was born again, or decided to become a Catholic than it is to maintain the pretense of being a good Mormon

I'd love to see him run, he's far from professional and even further from presidential. It's be a fucking train wreck. I loved the Palin fiasco, that was hilarious. This ticket would be fantastic entertainment!

This would be a dream come true. It would be awesome. Not only would it fail spectacularly, but it would probably destroy the Republicans in the process. Possibly even literally - every passionate, potentially violent right wing nutjob in the country would bring their best to this one.

Please make it so.

People don't fuckin' get it. People like Beck and Limbaugh are entertainers, not politicians.

What's your point?

Arnold, Al Franken, and the Body Ventura were entertainers before they decided to run for office. They didn't even run for dog-catcher as a stepping stone. I don't see why its so crazy to think Beck and Limbaugh could gain some momentum if they decided to run.

I listen to Beck every once and again and always come away with this feeling of disbelief that people can't see it's a sham. From his ham fisted morality to the spots for goldline, it's a complete farce. His show is the auditory equivilent to pro wrasslin'.

Becks a douche, and a Palin/Beck ticket will never happen, the MSM just ran with that dumb fucking story because they were probably pissed that nothing horrible went down, instead it was boring as Fuck. But I've been enjoying alot of supposed liberals making hypocrites out of themselves by wishing harm to Albert Pujols and his family for accepting an award for his charity. LMAO they get pissed when Palin uses the term reload yet they run around saying they wish Pujols entire family would die.

Oh, I don't think they would be a Republican ticket. I think they'd be a Tea Party or other Independent ticket. The GOP will probably field Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich or some such combo.

Beck is an entertainer, he's a shock jock for the right wing. He's mentally unstable and that would preclude him from a serious major party candidacy IMO. I'm not even saying it to knock him, but watch an average show and his mood sings are spectacular.

Edit: Just saw Skate's post, right on! How people see guys like Beck, O'Reilly and Limbaugh as serious pundits I just don't see. And I have friends who DO see them seriously, they get MAD when I laugh at these clowns!

Well after the fiasco of Ronald Reagan being elected President, you're right, nothing seems too far-fetched. But it still seems like the idea of Howard Stern suddenly vying for the nomination or something.

Yeah, I enjoy listening to them on occasion you know? They're fucking great at carrying the conservative flag. I know Rush is smart enough to not believe everything he says but Beck? I'm unsure. Rush is a smart ass in the style that makes me laugh.

"We'll be on top of this folks, like white on rice like cold on ice!"

Then some dumb ass lib'll call in and Rush will say..."First, let me say something, can I say something? Thank you. OK first of all, you're a bloomin' idiot and..." It fuckin' kills me.

OUCH! If that doesn't make Beck cry real tears, nothing will...Even Palin isn't dumb enough to be on a ticket with that clown..

Don't know about Beck, but...

http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2010/se ... icans-2012
There are boxes that US presidential hopefuls have to tick early. They have to start building a campaign team, albeit discreetly. They have to set up a fundraising machine. And they have to visit Iowa, the small but politically crucial state that traditionally kicks off a White House run.

Sarah Palin has ticked the first two and on Friday will tick the third when she is the main speaker at a $100-a-seat Republican dinner in Des Moines, Iowa. The party's sole superstar has not yet said whether she will seek the nomination to take on Barack Obama in 2012. But all the indications point to a run, and Friday's visit is the biggest sign yet.

Why is it that this woman can not even complete a full term as governor (by choice, no less) and now she's got people supporting her Presidential run? :|

Yeah, yeah, Obama voted "present" a lot and had no executive experience. But c'mon, a little objectivity here.

Newt needs to contain The_Crazy, too.

http://www.csmonitor.com/USA/Politics/T ... bout-Obama
The former speaker of the house is getting blasted for his comments over the weekend about President Obama, telling the National Review Online that the president is a con man who has a “Kenyan, anticolonial” worldview.

The comments are part of a pattern of extreme positions lately. Last month, Mr. Gingrich compared backers of the Ground Zero mosque to Nazis, and has said that if Republicans take back Congress in November they should consider a government shutdown over the budget.

He is considering a run for the presidency in 2012 – and was recently in Iowa, where he called Obama “the most radical president in American history – which may explain some of the attempts to grab headlines.

Sweet Jesus! Has he forgotten the last time they tried this?
Former Rep. Tom DeLay, in No Retreat, No Surrender wrote:"He told a room full of reporters that he forced the shutdown because Clinton had rudely made him and Bob Dole sit at the back of Air Force One...Newt had been careless to say such a thing, and now the whole moral tone of the shutdown had been lost. What had been a noble battle for fiscal sanity began to look like the tirade of a spoiled child..The revolution, I can tell you, was never the same."

I have a feeling the Republican establishment will rally behind Jeb Bush for the nomination. Palin, Gingrich and Romney may run but would have no chance in the general election against President Obama. For Bush to win, Obama's approval ratings would have to be below 30%. The economy will uptick by 2012 so I think Obama will squeak by a victory.
