All right...time for a little bit of honest introspection...

Put down the sludge hammers long enough to really consider something.
What will you do if things don't go your way on election day?
If we don't get a congress that changes hands so this President is stopped, I will be utterly shocked. I won't know what to think. I will have to figure out a way to come to terms with the realization that the majority of my fellow citizens actually wants things to continue like this.

You should not be so shocked. I lost faith in the American voter when 53% of this country voted for a media creation.

Honest question here. Since they're asking for a second chance, what makes you think the Republicans are going to fix everything THIS time?

My view is that the Republicans were NEVER as bad as what we have now. Also, there are a LOT of new breed Republicans running as well as an electorate that will be LOUDLY holding their feet to the proverbial fire.

They are not going to fix anything as in all likelihood, they will only control the House. Any bill they propose will not make it out of the Senate and even if it did, King Obama would veto it.
What they CAN do, is not fund the abortion of a bill known as Obamacare, that will destroy our healthcare system, which is exactly what the majority of the American people want them to do.

They also need to vote on an official resolution to repeal Obamacare. True, it will only be a symbolic vote, as it will most certainly be vetoed by Obama, but it's a symbolic vote that will go a long way in the minds of the American people.

I won't be too worried, I've been through it before. I live in Kansas so I have an extremely high tolerance for stupidity and a lack of concern for human rights.

I haven't jumped on the bandwagon against you yet but that statement is making me consider it. There are no "new breed" politicians in either major party or the tea party; they're just saying what they think they need to say to get elected. For as long as I can remember, republicans have been promising to shrink the size of government and yet failing to do so at every opportunity; do you really think these guys are any different? They sure sound the same.
People are always mad. Perhaps now they're a bit madder than they were two or three years ago, but that's part of the cycle. After the election Congress will be essentially gridlocked and little will get done. In two more years people will be looking at the dems again because things will not have changed much.

There are a lot of people running for office that have never run for elected office before.

Yep. The party yo yo is in full effect. I don't think it'll be two more years, probably more like 4, but your point is well made. Personally, I'll take two years of gridlock over two years of liberal legislation though. Best case is Obama is forced more toward the center ala Clinton.

I voted for Obama but I don't think that would be such a bad thing.

Yeah, lets fight to preserve one of the worst healthcare systems in the industrialized world.

I don't give a shit either way because the country is so polarized and neither party truly gives a fuck about the middle class, so my life hasn't really changed one way or the other regardless of who's in office.
On one hand the piece of shit former (D) Governor of New Jersey enacted a state tax on my lottery winnings before he left office... on the other hand now that I am teaching for a living I can't support what the Republicans want to do on a state level with the education system (take away teacher tenure).
On a national level the Democrats will take more of my money to fund bullshit social programs and grant amnesty to illegals, but the Republicans will fight the advances of stem cell research.
We're all headed to hell, who the fuck cares who's in office.

Oh Jake, it's so sad watching the real world force someone to lose their religion. Watching you grow up brings a tear to my eye.
And when I say "tear to my eye", I mean "bong to my mouth", but you get my meaning.

What we really need is a Bastille Day where we massacre the big corporate honchos who are bribing our government to do their bidding instead of ours.
Not gonna happen but it's what would need to happen for meaningful change in the long run. Since it's not gonna happen, the Democrats are by far the least of the 3 evils contending this year.
I expect the Republicans and some Tea Party clowns to get elected, then the Tea Partiers will basically align with the Republicans. They will gridlock progress, then 2 years later the public will toss out the GOP and Tea Partiers and Obama will owe his reelection to the GOP/Tea Party midterm gains.
He will probably get more support in his second term because the people will realize they choked too soon. Then, if the country does well in those 4 years, Hillary will get her shot if she still wants it. She'll be kinda old but younger than Reagan or McCain were when they ran.
Of course who knows what newcomer might throw all that conjecture into disarray?

Hi! I am so proud of you for becoming a teacher. Like CSHB said, it brings a tear to my eye, seeing you grow up over the years. Best of luck to you in your career.
And I do agree for the most part with what you said. Though with a Democratic twist, of course. But I haven't been impressed with the Democratic Congress....they are pretty cowardly,, politcally...corporate whores.
edit: through the past weeks I have been getting phone calls from actual people asking me if I was going to vote, if I was supporting my Democratic candidates, etc..plus one push poll for Chris Dudley, the Republican candidate for OR Governor..which drove me nuts because I couldn't answer the way I actually wanted to be represented. I finally told the pollster I wasn't going to answer the yes or no format and if they didn't like that they could stop asking me questions. So I guess I have a lot of "no answer"s on that one.
But after I had already turned in my ballot, I got my first ever robo-call! From the GOP candidate for Senator. Here in Oregon, once the ballot is collected you are supposed to be taken of the call lists. It didn't piss me off so much as amuse me. I mean, hello..1) I'm a Democrat, 2) I had already voted, and 3) Why wait till after that to robo-call me. It was pathetic.

Thanks for the kind words... it's been quite a learning curve...
On a somewhat related note, I guess... we are looking to buy a new house and were looking at buying foreclosed properties, and as you know, that's not an option right now so we're sitting and waiting it out. Unfortunately this whole housing mess has just been a monster through and through... the government really can't even do anything about it either.
Such is life...

Yes, the whole housing mess. I really do not understand how folks who are supposedly the big brains could not see that coming years ago. It really boggles my mind. The whole thing was/is insane. Sounds like some of was really quite criminal as well. We bought our house years ago, before the "boom"...I' saw houses around here literally flip the price when it hit. Like going from 260K to 620K. Fucking crazy.
I have read that it is harder to get into foreclosed properties. Good luck with that.

Holy shit! I guess you come around here for long enough, you'll see just about everything. Who'd have thought that the lottery winner would be the righty on the War Board to start thinking critically?
You really ought to stop doing that. If I actually started to like or otherwise care about your opinion, I don't think I could come here any more.

He voted for Obama, so he's either fully capable of thinking for himself, or he's a front runner. I'm guessing it's the former.
