Was the SOPA/PIPA blackout protest democracy in action?

It's not often that protests can succeed so resoundingly in such a short time.. a great example of how the voice of the people, spurred on by a cabal of corporations with vested interests, triumphed over opposing vested interests and lobby groups. But it was the support of the average people that really gave it momentum.
