Getting ready to go see Obama and Stevie Wonder....

...with Mr. Bong and my kids. It's really exciting to be able to do this as a family and to include and introduce my children to politics at a young age.

Beyond the Clockwork Orange-eaque barrage of political imagery that's been fucking my airwaves for the past month, it's a great day to be an Ohioan, and more than that, a resident of Hamilton County. Columbus got Jay Z and Springsteen last night.

In before any "Blind leading the blind" jokes.

I'll try to take some pics and post them later.

I'm guessing Joe Biden is under a strict gag order for this engagement.

I'd personally be more stoked to see Stevie Wonder but I'm sure the kids will remember this for the rest of their lives.

That's what I'm hoping, dude.

More than that, after being subjected to "Songs In The Key of Life" in the car for the better part of their lives, they actually know who Stevie Wonder is, so it's a pretty huge bonus.

Assuming he actually sings in addition to talking for 134 minutes between songs.

To see Stevie, I'd even sit through Obama rhetoric. Although, I wouldn't put my kids through that. I love them too much. :D

They didn't do a very good job promoting the last one. Let us know how many people show up.

Few knew about Stevie Wonder appearance for President Barack Obama at Cleveland State University on Saturday

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Legendary performer Stevie Wonder this morning expressed his love for Cleveland during a get-out-the-vote rally at Cleveland State University.

His love went largely unrequited.

Fewer than 200 people showed up to watch Wonder perform a handful of his hits at the early voting event in support of President Barack Obama.

Most of the people had learned of the event just hours before the 9:30 a.m. start time. Some just happened to be in the area and followed the live music.

Campaign volunteer Ken Johnson asked who in the crowd had voted early before introducing Wonder.

Nearly every hand went up.

Wonder took the stage at about 10:30 a.m.

"I do a song. You go vote. You come back. We do some more music," he said before opening with "Sir Duke."

No one left to vote after the first -- or any -- song.

A shuttle meant to take voters to the nearby Cuyahoga County Board of Elections left empty after Wonder's final song, "Superstition."

Obama for America Ohio, which hosted the rally, informed its nearly 34,000 followers on Twitter about the event around 10 a.m.

"Perhaps it wasn't advertised properly, but the people who are here are fired up," said Bill Milhoan, of Mentor.

Milhoan, who said he supports Obama, was one of the few people in the crowd who have not already voted.

"It would be disingenuous to say I am here because of Obama," he said. "How do you pass up a chance to see Stevie Wonder?"

Seeing Stevie with only 200 other people would be amazing.

Only 200? Cool.... That would be a great show to have seen.

The small attendance could have been maybe the promoter advertised it as Stevie Rachelle?

Well, we stood in line for 5.5 hours and still didn't get inside - doors opened at 4pm and they reached capacity by 6:40pm. I have seriously never seen that many people in line for anything in my life - it wrapped around 8 city blocks with no end in sight from where we were. 13.5K in the arena, 2K more in the overflow gym, and THOUSANDS turned away at the door - most of whom were still happy to remain on campus and line the streets of Correyville to show their support.

My youngest daughter burst into tears when she found out she couldn't get in and I'm not sure that I've ever felt like a bigger failure as a parent. But with the help of several people in line, we convinced her that we could still be a part of the event and support President Obama by partying outside, and that we did. The energy was fucking AMAZING and I am so glad that we went, and that our children were with us. In an election that has been so divisive and downright nasty, it felt so great to be at a political event full of hope and unity.

So, sorry I have no pictures or can't rehash the same campaign speech that we've all heard 50 times already, but I'm okay with that. What I got in return was the chance to make a memory with my family and to see a look of pure joy born of inclusion and unity on my youngest child's face that I won't EVER forget.

OBAMA...FUCK YEAH!

Sucks you didn't get in but still great that you turned it into a really good family time. And truly awesome that you daughters are budding democrats!!

I'm tearing up right now just thinking about how she looked out there last night - dancing, chanting, laughing, and talking with strangers like she'd known them her whole life. I was so proud to be her mother, and every time I looked at her, I felt like my heart was going to burst inside my chest. Last night made up for every time I've ever doubted my abilities in this crazy trip they call parenting. She is and will always be my emotionally needy little drama queen, but last night I saw nothing but a beautiful, caring, and conscientious child in her element.

Nice. They obviously did a much better job promoting it this time around.
