Yea, the job rate looks just fantastic  The number to look at is all the people leaving the workforce, giving up completely and counting 100% on government hand outs. What is sad is that the government couldn't give two shits about them - just get in line like good little sheep.

The government does give a shit about them.. the more dependent they are on the government, the more powerful the government becomes.

Yeah, nothing generates power quite like having a bunch of reliant dependents hanging from your teat.

Seriously, this line of reasoning is what made me turn against libertarianism.

Rule #1 of politics: make the constituents need you.

Failing that, make them think they need you.

Everyone needs the government to various degrees. Those needing the government to put food on the table need them more than the rest. This gives the government more power over them.

Everyone knows that the more you depend on somebody or something, the more power that person or thing has over you.

Guess you're not familiar with the terms "passive-aggression" or "parasite".

The idea that dependency creates power instead of draining it is ludicrous and is actually the basis of it's own form of insanity - co-dependency.

Those numbers were highlighted in the first post, shit for brains. Discouraged workers fell 12% between Feb 2012 and Feb 2013. The number went through the roof during the recession, increased 84% between Feb 2008 and Feb 2009 and 64% between Feb 2009 and Feb 2010.

12-Month Percent Change
Series Id: LNU05026645
Series title: (Unadj) Not in Labor Force, Searched For Work and Available
Reasons not in labor force: Discouragement over job prospects (Persons who believe no job is available.)
2008,5.6%
2009,84.6%
2010,64.7%
2011,-15.3%
2012,-1.4%
2013,-12.0%

That has also already been addressed, stupid.

Two words asswipe:

demographic shift.

Put on your dunce cap, write them on the chalk board 3000x.

Lower participation groups make up a larger percentage of the working age population.

One more time for people who have their dunce cap a little too tight:

Employment: A decline in the participation rate was expected due to the aging population
http://www.calculatedriskblog.com/2012/ ... qIpUpIz.99

Further Discussion on Labor Force Participation Rate
http://www.calculatedriskblog.com/2012/ ... FiGF9Ei.99

The second graph shows the number of people in the US by age group from both the 2000 and 2010 decennial Census.

This graph shows two key shifts.

First, baby boomers now moving into lower participation rate age groups (look at increase in the 55-to-59 and 60-to-64 groups from 2000 to 2010).

A second key demographic is the significant increase in people in the 15-to-19 and 20-to-24 age groups. These groups have lower participation rates usually because of school enrollment - and enrollment has been increasing.

Taken together, it is clear why the labor force hasn't increase as quickly as the civilian noninstitutional population, and therefore, why a decline in the labor force participation rate was expected.

No, jackass...an ageing population only makes up PART of the decline in the Labor Force Participation Rate, not ALL of it.
