Limbaugh Cuts Off Caller Who Brings Up His Past Drug Use

Post by Turner Coates »

Rush Limbaugh decided to prematurely cut off one of his radio show callers Wednesday after the man brought up some troubling stories from the host’s past. The call began under the guise of advocating for Limbaugh to receive a Presidential Medal of Freedom, but before long the caller was talking about that time the host “exchanged shoe boxes of cash for narcotics.”

In an attempt to highlight similar honors Limbaugh has received in the past, the caller brought up a bust of the host that now resides in the Hall of Famous Missourians. “That, and you can correct me if I’m wrong,” the caller said, “came after you exchanged shoe boxes of cash for narcotics in Florida, something that most people go to jail for–decades for mandatory minimums. They gave you a statue! I mean, you imported drugs into America with the Viagra deal down in Florida…”

At this point, Limbaugh cut his caller off, saying, “Oh, no sir. See you are a victim of, once again, totally distorted media reporting.” He commended the “first half of your call,” during which the man highly praised the host, as “exactly right.” But as for the accusations about drugs, that portion was “filled with the usual leftist, bigotry, hatred and gibberish. And you don’t have the slightest idea what you are talking about!” And, that was the end of that call.

In terms of that “distorted media reporting,” here’s what the caller may have been referring to. Back in 2003, Limbaugh was listed as a possible buyer in an illegal prescription drug investigation in Florida. Days later, he confessed to his listeners that he was addicted to painkillers and entered a rehab facility for 30 days. Three years later, Limbaugh was arrested for violating Florida’s “doctor shopping” laws an alleged attempt to get multiple doctors to write him overlapping prescriptions. He pleaded not guilty and reached a settlement in 2009.

Also in 2006, Limbaugh was detained by DEA agents at Palm Beach International Airport after returning from the Dominican Republic with Viagra in his luggage that did not have his name on the prescription. He was ultimately released and no charges were filed.

The audio is hilarious. Limbaugh boasts and brags, then says the media was wrong about the drug stories.

Radio talk-show host Rush Limbaugh was booked on drug charges in Florida on Friday, and his lawyer said that Limbaugh had agreed to a deal enabling him to avoid prosecution in the prescription abuse case if he continued treatment for addiction problems and avoided any other run-ins with the law.

Limbaugh, a conservative darling and liberal bete noire, was booked, photographed and fingerprinted in Palm Beach, Fla., then shortly thereafter released on a $3,000 bond, according to a posting on the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office website. A spokesman said there would be no further comment.

The apparent deal caps a three-year investigation into allegations originally aired by a housekeeper at Limbaugh's Palm Beach mansion, who told the National Enquirer that the radio host had abused OxyContin and other painkillers.

Prosecutors began looking into potential "doctor shopping" by Limbaugh, who received about 2,000 pain pills prescribed by four doctors over a six-month period -- all from a pharmacy near the Palm Beach house. The charge on the sheriff's website was listed as "fraud -- conceal info to obtain prescription."

Limbaugh admitted on the air to being addicted to painkillers, and told listeners he was entering a rehabilitation program. He took a five-week leave.

Although many of his fans voiced sympathy and support, detractors saw hypocrisy, noting that Limbaugh had been a staunch proponent of cracking down on drug users.

"Drug use, some might say, is destroying this country," Limbaugh said in October 1995 on a television show he had at the time. "And so, if people are violating the law by doing drugs, they ought to be accused and they ought to be convicted and they ought to be sent up."

Limbaugh's lawyer, Roy Black, said in a statement Friday: "Mr. Limbaugh and I have maintained from the start that there was no doctor shopping, and we continue to hold this position."

Black said Limbaugh had pleaded not guilty and had willingly agreed to continue treatment for his painkiller addiction.

Black said that the deal with prosecutors called for the fraud charge to be dropped in 18 months if Limbaugh complied with all court guidelines, and that Limbaugh would pay $30,000 to defray the state's investigation costs and $30 a month for "supervision" of his treatment.

Prosecutors could not be reached for comment late Friday. But legal analysts said it appeared Limbaugh had eluded any criminal conviction in the much-publicized case.

"They slapped his hand, and that's all," said Debra Opri, a celebrity lawyer and frequent television analyst.

"So absolutely it's a victory for Limbaugh," Opri said.

"He doesn't have to stand trial. He just gets to say, 'Hey, I'll keep my nose clean. I don't have any priors, and I don't anticipate any futures.' And that's it. He walks."

That's correct (as if you didn't know).
He did admit his addiction on air, but his highly paid lawyers got him a deal.
No conviction does not mean he was innocent (and you know that too).
If Donald Trump was caught red handed for doctor shopping, I wouldn't expect him to be convicted either.
Money talks, and the louder it speaks, the more attention paid to it....especially in Florida.

Oh brother.
If you don't grok, then so be it.
Rush prefers his fans to be that way.

I may have groked once in high school. Don't quite remember though.

But what does that have to do with anything?

I know several people who suffer with pain pill addiction, just like Lumbarge. If he wasn't such a fucking dick about the entire situation, i.e. drug dealers should be given the death penalty and the other assorted bullshit he has stated in the past, I might actually sympathize with the fat fuck.
