I mean, I will always personally find it funny (when it's done right, by somebody who is cool), but at the same time, I am observant enough to see what's taking place. Sarcasm is old-hat. I see a couple of people doing it now, with varying degrees of success, but for the most part, it's fast becoming an archaeic form of Sludgery. Not calling people out that use the technique, as I said, just making the observation.
I'm eager to see who will be the poster to come in and change the game up and make the old-school sarcasticasauruses realize how obsolete they are. An apt comparison for the sludge crowd would be that the sarcastic style is like the hair bands of the 80s, who dominated a scene for a long time, until their shit got played out, and became diluted and obsolete. Then, the greater cultural consciousness will latch on to a Nirvana-type, thus continuing the never-ending cycle.
Anyways, what do you guys think will be the next big trend? I'm thinking the kill-them-with-kindness method, or maybe somebody could come along with a straight up SMUG style. I would love to see a BSI or Kurt Staley Vedder type go mainstream, but I don't think folks are ready for that yet. Bummer.

Oh, yeah, this sounds reeeeeeeeeal plausible.
With that out of the way, I like your idea, though it's sad that it took me so long to notice this post (I hardly scroll down to MW anymore; shameful, but true).

How about breezy numb-skulled attempts at humor that fall flat as a pancake? Is that hip right now?
