Why on earth would TNA book that 20,000? seat arena for Slammeversary in Detroit? I mean even with some seats being sold for $7, I doubt they can fill half of that building. Wouldn't it cost more to rent it out than they will possibly make in ticket sales? I think TNA's biggest PPV crowd ever was 7,000 and no way were all those paid tickets.
I could see doing this if they has a one time only match, say Hogan VS. RVD that could possibly move some seats but why book this venue and not a theater?
Hey no one expects the Harlem Globetrotters or Disney on Ice to draw capacity crowds at all the arenas they book.

A lot of arenas will lower their prices during summer months when their regular breadwinners (NBA & NHL) are off. Sometimes you can get an arena rented cheaper than a theater. It's easy enough to have the ring at one end rather than at center court and set up some risers to make it look more crowded.

Plus if you're doing something like this in Detroit, you'd much rather be in Auburn Hills (rich suburbs) than one of the theaters closer to crime-ridden downtown.

HOLY SHIT! GO TO TNA KEN! GO!WWE has announced Ken Kennedy has been released from his contract. While we haven't heard the details regarding his termination, it is most likely due to how injury prone he has been. Kennedy returned to in-ring action on WWE television on this past Monday's edition of Raw after being out since August 2008 with a torn labrum. He suffered a wrist injury on Monday's Raw after taking the RKO from Randy Orton.

Here is what WWE.com posted:

World Wrestling Entertainment has come to terms on the release of Raw Superstar Mr. Kennedy (Ken Kennedy) as of today, May, 29 2009. WWE wishes Ken the best in all future endeavors.

I think there's a little more to his release than him getting injured again... but we shall see.

It's amazing. A couple years ago during his awesome feud with Taker, he looked like he was going to be THE NEXT big star. But between being made out of glass and pretty much making himself out to be the biggest jackass on the planet with his "I don' take steroids" rant only to get nailed a couple weeks later... it boggles the mind how quickly he dropped off.

He was never a great worker to begin with... but he just had that IT. Great charisma that covered up his weaknesses.

He'd be a great catch for TNA, but in all probability the guy would break his hands signing the contract.

Still... I think there is more to it than the injury. He had to have done something that starting him in a program with Orton. You don't just decide a couple days later to fire the guy because he can't work a match anymore without breaking or tearing something. They have a strong need for a color commentator and he could have certainly filled that role...

Ken is not injured at all. That was a work on Monday. The real reason will come out shortly.
From KK's official site:
Posted on 5.30.2009
Ken is physically 100 percent healthy, and very optimistic about his future in the business. More details will follow.

I'm bummed to hear the Golden Greek, John Tolos died! That man was one of the gods of wrestling here in L.A. when I was young. He was the king of bad guy interviews (several of his lines were borrowed by Andy Kaufman). I remember the first guitar over the head I ever saw was with Tolos pulling the trigger.

Sadly, most here would only remember him for the couple months he managed Mr. Perfect in the WWF in the early 90's as "Coach." Of course at that point Hennig got injured and ended up seconding Ric Flair for a year so Tolos was released.

Just remember his catchphrase: How do you spell wrestling? T-O-L-O-S!

Cool...I didn't even know he was "Coach". I do know who John Tolos was, but I obviously never saw any matches, unless it was on ESPN classic back when they had all kinds of old WWWF and older programming...

Kennedy is gonna be just like Billy Gunn. He stayed hurt constantly, but when he went to TNA, he NEVER got hurt. There's no doubt it'll go down like that, and there's no doubt that TNA won't bring him in.

Are you kidding? Jeff Jarrett probably called him last night. He has a relationship with TNA from his days as Kamakaze Ken, he will be there bet on it,100%. If he has a 90 day no compete, I say he debuts at BFG in October.

Unless your name is Batista I guess. But then again, he leaves a hickey on HHH's dick whenever he does an interview, so he probably has a job for life.

Hey if Trevor Murdoch can get a job in TNA, anyone from WWE can!!! I'm actually surprised Lance Cade hasn't shown up yet.

That's what I meant. I know good & well they'll bring him in. Not a doubt in my mind. They'll be all over him like the Triple H all over the world title in '02-'03.

I heard they are saving him for a PPV? Like anyone cares? Who can they bring in that would actually increase ratings? I don't even know if RVD would at this point.

Kennedy is probably already pencilled in as TNA champ by December. Like someone else said, unless you're Batista getting injured all the time will send you packing.

I remember Coach. Sadly I never saw him in his wrestling prime. RIP.

Question:Since Mr Kennedy got himself released, what are the odds of TNA giving him a low-paying contract?I mean, why pay him $250,000 a year when he would accept a $125,000 a year. The ball is in TNA court on this one.

Just last night I saw a RAW commercial advertising "The return of Mr. Kennedy". You don't waste time and money on a return, just to axe the guy a few days later. Something had to have happened since Monday to cause this to happen.

I didn't watch RAW last Monday. Was the crowd into his match at all?

Multiple sources believe that Ken Kennedy's release from World Wrestling Entertainment was a decision made by Vince McMahon after Kennedy came close to injuring WWE champion Randy Orton during a 10 man tag that closed out last Monday's Raw.

During the bout, Kennedy nailed a back suplex that dropped Orton dangerously on the collar bone he broke several years back. Orton immediately began pounding the mat in anger. During the finishing sequence of the bout, Orton grabbed Kennedy and snapped him down hard with a RKO, which led to Kennedy grabbing at his wrist after hitting the mat.

The belief among many was that Orton had complained about Kennedy's work. Vince McMahon agreed and it was seen as a "last strike" on Kennedy, who had spent a good part of his tenure out with injuries and suspensions. I was told the decision was one made by McMahon himself, but it also shows the level of stroke Orton now has within the company as Manu was let go after Orton voiced his concerns about his work and attitude as well.

WWE had high hopes for Kennedy as a performer and they wanted him to get over as a star. They never would have planned to book him into a storyline where he would have been revealed to be Vince McMahon's illegitimate son and eventual McMahon family member if they didn't intend for him to get over. His Wellness suspension killed that. They never would have had Kennedy go over at Wrestlemania 23 in the Money in the Bank match if they didn't plan WWE title run for him on the Smackdown brand. Injuries curtailed that. They never would have showcased him in the Behind Enemy Lines film if they didn't have faith in him. In the end, whether it was bad luck or bad karma for some of the things Kennedy said publicly, things never worked out and never clicked. Monday was just the latest example of that.

Kennedy has gone public noting that he is "100% healthy" to get the word out that he wasn't released because of any injuries. I've been told he is "furious" about the reports of his injury, which we noted was not expected to keep him out of the ring. In speaking out regarding the injury, however, Kennedy brings silent credence to the Orton situation.

As irony has it, all of the Raw promos running on the USA Network are promoting Kennedy since they were produced and put into rotation before Kennedy's release.

For those are asking about TNA, I am under the impression that there's some sort of interest but Kennedy wouldn't be able to work there until September without waiving his 90 day no compete with WWE.

Lastest "news" says it wasn't RKO. I guess Orton and Kennedy are friends.

Credit: F4WOnline.com

There has been a lot of speculation regarding Randy Orton's role in the release of Mr. Kennedy from WWE this week. While a heated discussion went down backstage between Randy Orton and Kennedy following last week's RAW taping, Orton actually had nothing to do with Kennedy being fired.

Later that evening, two major WWE stars (who were not fans of Kennedy) went to Vince McMahon and took the opportunity to express their feelings. Vince McMahon, who was already said to be in a very bad mood after the dispute over Denver and the NBA, made the decision on the plane ride home to send Kennedy packing. The word is that McMahon considers Kennedy to be reckless, still green as a worker, clueless when it came to business instincts, and was a huge liability. Reportedly no one in WWE creative or talent relations felt the need to speak up for Kennedy.

And....

Ken "Kennedy" Anderson can be booked via [email protected]. Due to a no-compete clause in his WWE contract, he won't be available until September 1st. Anderson posted a message on his Twitter page this week saying that he wants to do culinary school, as he's found cooking to be a "stress reliever" during his time away from the ring.

Kennedy has already made enquiries about wrestling in Japan, reports The Sun.
