First ever "proper" reissue.

$379!

They aren't in the stores yet, but you can preorder.
Cool, but, why is the hot thing "worn", "road worn", "distressed", "broken in", etc. these days? Whatever happened to putting your own wear-and-tear on an instrument?

I've said it before, Sleek can have all of the mini's humbuckers if it were up
to me. They're great but they're just not me.

Give me P90's. I posted these in the Projects thread;

The relic'd thing is just kind of the evolution of gear. The trend used to be that of making
your stuff look like the latest model. You'll see a lot of vintage Les Paul's that people repainted the top
on because they saw ___________ was playing a goldtop.
I've come across numerous brown and tweed Fender amps where they were painted black
because Fender went to black covering in the 60's.

SRV was a big reason that relic'ing became popular. That and the vintage craze when people got tired of Charvel's.
Most of the best playing vintage stuff has checking and wear to the finishes.
Vintage finishes are mostly nitro lacquer, applied thin, so it's easy to wear
through the finish. A lot of today's finishes will darken with age but they're plastic based and
you would be hard pressed to play it enough to get genuine playing wear.

No, that's just the level of stuff that hung in the public area at Gruhn's in 1985!

'65 Special on the left. Lovely slim 60's neck. Had a vibrato at one point but that's been off for years.
I dug out the parts a few weeks ago to put it back on.
'70 Special on the right. This was right before they started all of the budget top loading controls
and trashing the design of the SG's. Chunky neck, almost like a vintage 1963 Fender "C" neck.
Like the '65, it had a vibrato at one point. It will probably have a Bigsby soon.

Sick. Sick. Sick.

This one reminds me of the typical vintage guitar shop moment. The frustrated seller says
"It's mint!" and the crusty guy behind the counter goes "Of course it's mint -
WHO THE FUCK WOULD WANT TO BE SEEN HOLDING IT!!!"

You guys might be the only ones that appreciate this one:

Image

1984 BC Rich Mockingbird, NJ series (made in Japan). Atomic pink with what we think are Dimarzio stock pickups (a website mentioned something about a PAF Pro/Super Distortion set?). I picked her up today. Any info on this guitar as far as stock pickups go? Needs a slight bridge adjustment, but it plays and sounds great. Clean too.

Hey guys,

I'm looking to get my new (used) Flying V painted...There's a few local guys around here - what would be a reasonable ballpark price to get the job done?

Thanks,

Toro, I don't need an F-spaced neck pickup for my Mockingbird do I? I think the nut width is 42 or 43 mm. I've heard mixed opinions on it...

I'm looking into a PAF Pro to pair with the stock Super Distortion bridge. I don't think the stock pickups were F-spaced...it's from 1984 and I thought the F-spaced pickups came a bit later...

I'm pretty sure F-spaced was later and really only mattered in the lead position.

That's what I thought, but they claimed that nut width had a lot to determine with the neck position. The nut on the BC Rich is about 42 mm so I think I'm in the clear.

Thanks man!

Dollar for dollar one of the best guitars out there. YOu can't go wrong with mahogany and a fast playing neck.

Went ahead and took your advice Toro. I scored this on ebay. Brand new perfect condition $479 plus $20 shipping. Plays like a dream, very happy with this. Still getting used to the p90s though, trying many different settings to dial in a tone.

That's a sweet rig T.O.N.! As a longtime Boogie user I will say just take your time
tweaking it. The controls are so sensitive and the way changing one can affect another
can make it frustrating but it's well worth
the effort. I a big P-90 fan so I'm really digging that setup. I just put my old Les Paul Jr. back together after a few months and I'm loving it.

In the old days the guitars companies used to roll out shit like this at
trade shows;

Here's one from Dean guitars. 1980-82-ish. Powerful stuff.

At the Dallas guitar shows they would have these poor girls walk the runway
in really bad lingerie carrying guitars. *NOTE: Nothing's sexier than a girl who's never
held one trying to look sexy carrying one around a convention center.
