Re: Warning given
No surprise there. If you try to tell uninsured Americans, "Hey, we've come up with this system where there's no public option and you'll be forced to purchase substandard crap insurance that you can't afford or face penalties. What do you guys think?" of course they're gonna hate it.
Overwhelmingly, Americans want a public option, and a public option has been the Democrats' wet dream for almost forty years. So why was it killed so suddenly?
Yeah, without question the majority of Americans dislike this version of health care, but I don't really understand why right-wingers are crowing about this as though it's good news for them - most of the stuff that sucks in the current legislation was put there by the Dems' efforts to be "bipartisan" and make all kinds of concessions to Republicans, "pro-life" Democrats, Big Insurance and Big Pharm.
Oh, and fuck Max Baucus and his "Gang of Six".

Funny, the numbers didn't say that, hence where that option is now.

Re: Warning given
That "warning" has had holes poked in it by pretty much everyone, including John Zogby:
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/john-zogb ... 97354.html
Not to mention those two dudes have been responsible for some of the worst political advice of all time, such as that John McCain should pick Joe Lieberman as his running mate.
The Democrats will probably lose seats no matter what in November, because the incumbent party almost always does in mid-terms, but they'll suffer a lot worse if they fail to get anything done.

Re: Warning given
Considering that most of these warnings are coming from Republicans (so nice of them to look out for the Democrats' political well-being), I too am hoping they don't take heed through November.YourMomma wrote:Here's hoping the left continues to look for ways to "poke holes" into the warnings given instead of taking heed all the way through November.
Let's not kid ourselves, the Republicans want the Democrats to fail at passing health care reform so that they will have forced the incumbent party to be ineffective, which the voters will punish them for at the polls. It is definitely not in the Republicans' best interests for the Dems to get shit done.

Wash Post, ABC, are both heavy leftist machines. ABC actually couldn't be MORE "Obamacare" if they tried.
Huffington Post, I'm not even going to bother to explain it.
Talk about a fail.
Why don't we look at my original point, where the option is, and then conclude the obvious? Nah...lets link the Huffington Post.

ANY POLL TAKEN IN THE LAST YEAR shows the same thing. MOST Americans wanted a public option. It's been acknowledged statistical fact for more than a year that they did. Just because YOU'RE a tight right-wing wacko doesn't mean that most Americans feel differently about it than you.

I see. So what you're saying is, we all wanted it SO BADLY, that it's done with?
LMOFFASOIFHOAFHAOIHFIAFO at you being stupid enough to ignore the truth staring back at you: IT'S NOT HAPPENING. It WASN'T popular enough for our government to say, "Our people really want this, lets get it done." Nevermind having the majority long enough to do it. Last time I checked, usually majority wins.
And for the LAST TIME, please use your Google machine to look up why media polls and *where they take place* present massively flawed logic. ABC goes out front of their studio, polls 500 people, and you call it the overwhelming majority of America's opinion. I walk outside my door and ask the same question of every person I can, and I'm going to get the exact opposite. How do I know? Because I don't know a single person that wanted it, and most of my friends/family/coworkers voted for Obama. I live in the Midwest, the polls are done on the coasts where the media is focused and centered. There's a LOT more of "us" than you realize.
So...shut up. Go pretend to know your shit elsewhere. And you can easily prove me wrong when the Public Option is resurrected from the dead. You can post all the stats/polls you want and cling to what you've been told; the end result is what ultimately shows YOUR statistics to be completely wrong. Go ahead and post some links proving me wrong...I'll wait.
Sigh...another one.

Interesting that you refer to this as "Ignorance." I made the statement that the "overwhelming majority of Americans did NOT want the PO." A bunch of links were posted, but reality backs, no, solidifies my argument.
I could care less about the PO. I have insurance, pay for it, and use it once every few years. If they change things up, I'll have to roll with it. But to say that b/c ABC News and the Huff Post make a claim it's true is retarded. If I post a Rasmussen poll showing Obama with sub 40% approval, all the posters who support Obama will tear "Rasmussen" to shreds or say, "Those polls aren't accurate."
What's really going on here is people simply believe exactly what ABC news/co tell them. They don't think on their own anymore. They read a blog and feel "Informed." They read a joke like Huffington and go spit out some "Fact" some hack uploaded with zero fact checking. There's a reason sites like the HP were created; the people who couldn't get real jobs in the media needed a place to vent.
So go ahead and post where there's a Pubic Option in play OR a huge push from the "American People" to get the Public Option back on the table. You can't. You won't. And if by some chance you do, I'll admit you/Chick were right and say no more about it.

Re: Warning given
What does Obama's approval rating have to do with the fact that if you Google the phrase "Americans public option" the first TEN results yield links to polls that show anywhere from 65-90% of the American public wanted a public option for health care?
I also don't recall putting anything in my post to indicate I "want" anything. I pointed out a simple fact, that most Americans, when asked, favored the idea of a public option. Crowing about "It's not happening! Bwhahahaha!" doesn't have shit to do with the point in my initial post that you chose to attack with your partisan bullshit.
I'm sorry you don't like the facts, or the sources that cite them. But Obama's approval rating only reflects the fact that Americans are disgusted that the public option got killed - when the Senate killed it because they're in the pockets of Big Insurance and Big Pharm, approval rating for both the bill and Obama dropped like a rock. I'm not sure where you think you're gaining ground citing his approval rating as at all germane to the facts that I was trying to point out.
You chose to argue a point that can't be argued to push your own wacky right-wing agenda. I said "overwhelmingly, Americans wanted a public option" and you acted as though I didn't know what I was talking about, when it has been common knowledge for months borne out by every number you can think of. You've moved onto blubbering about Obama's approval rating - about which I can assure you I don't give the slightest fraction of a fuck, and which only supports the point I was trying to make in the first place - because you have nothing else.
And hahahaha @ "I'd like you or Chick to show me a number" when we've already crammed dozens of numbers down your throat. But since you're apparently gonna continue to be a dumb cock until you get a precious "Rasmussen number" here you go, dumbass. Two of 'em, even. Caution, though - one of them is cited in the Huffington post, but it's a Rasmussen poll so don't get your panties in another bunch over the source.

Re: Warning given
Now watch this dumbass come on here and tell me I "only believe what Rasmussen, ABC News, CBS News, the NYT, the Huffington Post, CrooksandLiars.com, and the Washington Post" tell me.
Yeah, the public option got killed. I never tried to say it didn't. That doesn't change the fact that most Americans wanted one, and they're not supporting this bill BECAUSE the Senate killed it.

Re: Warning given
If the majority of Americans wanted it SO BADLY, we'd see it. It was killed off, plain and simple. If the majority of Americans still wanted it SO BADLY, there would be an outcry for it right now; there isn't one. If there was such strong favor for it, Senators would basically be guaranteeing themselves losing their seats to vote against it. Yes, that's what they usually do; whatever they can to lose their seat.chickenona wrote:Now watch this dumbass come on here and tell me I "only believe what Rasmussen, ABC News, CBS News, the NYT, the Huffington Post, CrooksandLiars.com, and the Washington Post" tell me.

Again, you can post all the links you want as I can too. You missed the point I tried to make so I'll dumb it down for you even further;
POLLS ARE BULLSHIT. AGAIN, POLLS ARE BULLSHIT. FOR A THIRD TIME, POLLS ARE BULLSHIT.
God damn - the fact that you can't understand that yet call me stupid is mind boggling.
Get off your computer for once and realize that the shit you read on here is all BULLSHIT.

"100% of people polled in the Midwest did not want the public option." It'd be statistically true too. It was done in the midwest, and 100% of the people who responded are opposed to the public option.

Re: Warning given
So you're saying Rasmussen, ABC, CBS, the New York Times, and the Washington Post are all lying to make a statistic you don't like look like it's true when it's actually false?
The numbers go against you on this one. Live with it.
And I love how guys like you love to rail against the Democratic-run legislature and how they're out of touch with voters - until they do something that reflects YOUR preferences. Then all of a sudden what they do is a reliable gauge for what their constituents want.
The public option got killed because most SENATORS didn't want it. It had nothing to do with what most Americans wanted. It is a fact borne out by every poll taken in 2009, and it's reflected in the fact that most Americans don't like the health care bill in its current incarnation.

No shit.
They care more about the big-money lobbyists than they do about voters. It's nothing new, on either side of the aisle.

Again, you miss the point. More and more I find people who blindly follow blogs and what they're fed. At least when Crazy Levi attacks me, he's got sense and doesn't ignore the obvious. I might not agree with him on a lot, but I can't say he is stupid.chickenona wrote:So you're saying Rasmussen, ABC, CBS, the New York Times, and the Washington Post are all lying to make a statistic you don't like look like it's true when it's actually false?

If you're going to argue against me that our media is heavily liberally biased, I'm not going to argue anymore.
You seem to just attack certain points, yet ignore what I'm trying to say to you. So for the second time, I'll dumb it down to just about 4th grade intellectual abilities:
Polls don't mean anything unless you can prove you had a perfect cross section and the questions didn't lead the voters in ANY way, shape, or form. That is COMPLETELY impossible, but my point is that no matter which side you're on, the polls you are going to naturally gravitate towards are going to bolster your opinion. So it is easy to deduce then that people of your opinion are *more likely* to be polled by an agency or entity that wants to bolster/prove that very point.
Let's dumb it down EVEN further:
Is Faux News going to poll people in Harlem?
Is ABC going to poll people in rural Arkansas?
Is the Christian Science Monitor going to poll people outside an Acorn meeting?
Is CBS going to poll people in Appalachia?
So quit pointing to polls. If you still can't get it, I don't know what to tell you.
Fact is there wasn't a big enough majority as you claim for our senators to be worried about not voting for it, nor is it for Obama b/c he has COMPLETELY abandoned it.
So again, you can ignore the facts - but they are simple. You are claiming this massive majority wanted it. I am telling you they didn't or else every single Rep and Senator who voted against it, AND the POTUS just basically guaranteed themselves getting the boot.
So - how worthwhile is your poll Chick? How worthwhile are ALL OF THE THOUSANDS OF POLLS you mention? The didn't mean shit because the PO got shot down. Again, YOUR POLLS DIDN'T MEAN SHIT BECAUSE IN REALITY THEY DIDN'T ADD UP TO SQUAT.
Discuss that with your reading group on Tuesdays that can't get through the first few pages of "Twilight" without using Google to look definitions up.

Re: Warning given
So now the problem is that they didn't ask the right people. All of these independent polling sources - Survey USA (where Huffington got their data cited in the first post I made with links) ABC, CBS, The Washington Post, the NYT and Rasmussen (where FOXNews gets most of their numbers) - yield similar results on this question, but not a single one of them asked a reliable cross-section of Americans, so therefore their numbers are meaningless - simply by virtue of the fact that you don't agree with their findings.
Fourth-grade level indeed.
There's no point in going on with this. You're going to continue to embrace your wrong opinion no matter what numbers are thrown at you. That's your problem.
People started hating on this bill when the public option got killed. It's conventional wisdom at this point. I know it, MasterofMeatPuppets knows it, Rasmussen knows it, all the news outlets know it, most conservatives on this board know it. The only person I've run into in the last six months who doesn't seem able to grasp it is you.

Did your polls end up meaning anything - no. So then, your polls don't mean anything. 2+2 = 4 no matter what you think.
Thanks to you, Meat, and whomever else you claim "Gets it." Keep fighting those battles while the rest of us laugh.
House - passed by 5 votes.
Senate - didn't pass.
