Ali G Indahouse- 3/10, and I feel I'm being generous. I'm definitely a fan of SBC and his characters, but holy shit, was this one ever bad. A few decent lines here and there, but certified wackness overall. Good thing his next one was a classic...

The Jerk- 9/10. Can't believe I hadn't seen this before; I did recognize a lot of the lines. Wickedly funny; laughter was regular. Good fun.

Volver - 100/10

I meant to give it a ten, but I couldn't resist placing two zeros in tribute of Penelope Cruz's fine chestmilks. This movie is fucking wonderful. Lots of cleavage from Penelope, and that alone is probably a reason to give this movie a ten. Anyway, the story is kind of fucked up, the end has an intriguing twist.

The visuals are fuckin' wonderful. Almodovar paints a visually depressing Europe with lively colors. And also, includes a nice pair of boobs here in there in the screen, forgive my digression.

I think I liked the music in it more than the movie actually. I wanted to kill that kid. I understand now why the studio held the movie back for so long and wanted Spike Jonze to re-film the whole thing with a new kid in the lead role. I guess he made them see things his way though.

Where did you hear this?
I checked on imdb again and it said this:

Initially, Warner Brothers studio was so unhappy with Spike Jonze's final movie (it was much less family friendly than they imagined) that they wanted to re-shoot the whole $75 milion project in early 2008. Jonze was eventually given some more time and money by the studio in order to make the final product satisfying to both, the studio and himself.

I know I seen something about them being unhappy with the kid as well, but I can't find it.

Is any of the real footage real?
EditHistoryDelete No. The filmmakers claimed the movie was a documentary re-enactment set in Nome, Alaska.

The film's trailer states that the story is based on "actual case studies," but did not specify any cases. As a result, much speculation has arisen regarding the search for documented evidence from the actual cases and whether Dr. Abigail Tyler is a real person or a fictional character for use in an internet viral marketing campaign.

On September 1, 2009, an investigation by the Anchorage Daily News examined the validity of the film's premise, and its relation to actual disappearances that have occurred in and around the town of Nome. The investigation found no specific events to back up the claims in the film and also revealed that unsolved deaths in Nome are no more frequent than any other small Alaskan town. The consensus is that the high rate of alcoholism combined with the harsh landscape surrounding Nome accounts for a majority of disappearances (just as in other remote areas).

On November 12, 2009 Universal Pictures agreed to a $20,000 settlement with the Alaska Press Club "to settle complaints about fake news archives used to promote the movie." Universal acknowledged that they created fake online news articles and obituaries to make it appear that the movie had a basis in real events.
And in turn, you can take a running leap straight off the high board into the pool of go fuck yourself.

The Invention Of Lying 7/10.

I thought it was clever. I like the mockery of religion it makes too. All in all a cute movie. I was watching it thinking "that dame looks like a less attractive Jennifer Garner". Turns out it was actually Jennifer Garner.

I'll be damned.

A near perfect movie, IMO. Deniro was amazing. Great story. Cuba Gooding Jr was really good too.

Splintered - 4/10 - Cheap UK horror film, cheesy if you're in the mood. The leading chick does a good job but the movie gets worse as it goes along.

Ninja Cheerleaders - 2/10 - Could have been a kick ass flick if they either acted or straight up fucked each other. Neither happened.

Exactly. I think it was a good movie because it was clever enough to hide a little mockery in its jokes. There are some bland moments though, but overall, it was a fun movie.

Music Within - 7/10 - Worth while show, didn't expect to ever see Ron Livingston do another decent movie but he pulled it off. Should I feel bad for laughing my balls off at the retard? Every scene with him had me on the floor.

Lars and the Real Girl - 7/10 - Great flick, was very surprised.

Serbis 9/10

Too many undeveloped characters, but the film itself is magnificent. It's a story about a family running a porn theater business. It's a really visually enthralling portrayal of Filipino skid row.

THE RUNAWAYS (5/10)

Yes, it was exactly as bad as I had feared. Admittedly, I'm so emotionally invested in the story of that band that pleasing me was probably impossible, but...these are my MAJOR quibbles with it:

* Visually, it was utterly full of cliches.
* Dakota Fanning was pretty dreadful.
* The timeline was collapsed in a really bullshit way.
* Obviously, the inaccuracies and character compositing.
* There wasn't really enough emphasis on placing the whole thing into historical context.
* PINK font. Seriously. Fuckers.
* I would've been more interested in seeing less "Currie Family Drama" and more "Lita begins to seethe over Cherie's star trip"
* Fowley's relationship with the girls wasn't really explored. Yeah, you see him ranting and raving at them, but there is also the fact that he essentially molested at least two of them, and that was NOT made clear. In fact, if anything, you sit there going, "Why the fuck were they putting UP with his shit?"

That said, I did like the following:

* "Half-Sack" from Sons of Anarchy was in it, as was Robert Romanus (Damone from FAST TIMES)
* Kristin Stewart's performance was enough to make me remember why I always loved Joan Jett.
* It played out very much as Joan's love letter to Cherie. First loves die hard, I reckon.
* During the part where they are "on tour", I totally recognized the hotel they shot at--I've walked that area a zillion times (near Hollywood and Western).
* I really want to ask a friend of mine who knew him how realistic the Fowley portrayal was. It had the ring of truth, as did Rodney Bingenheimer
* Color me lame as fuck, but the fact that these teenagers were actually allowed to HAVE BAD SKIN made me happy

I was really wondering how they handled the relationship between Fowley and the girls because Edgeplay really made me think Fowley was kind of a monster and a total pig. I mean, you kind of get that vibe from him anyway. Did you ever read Cherie Currie's book?

I'm waiting for the price to go back down before I buy it. I've read excerpts and Jackie's rebuttals to it, but....I'm not willing to pay full price for it. LOL

As far as the Fowley thing, it DOES bother me that it wasn't touched on AT ALL. There's a lot of misogyny and yelling at them and calling them "filthy pussies", etc., but nothing about the other part.

Sleepers - 8/10

I give this a very high score because, Kevin Bacon got shot and died. The story is fucked up. Though the movie sometimes breaches melodrama territory it still manages to focus on the central point. Brad Pit was kind of OK. DeNiro was great as usual. Overall, a great movie.

One of the very few times where the movie did the book justice.
So there's a book? Inform me.
