I tend to stay away from 'hot' pickups and overwounds. My favorites are in the 6-9ohms range.
I see shit out there that's 16+ for a humbucker - a fucking regular humbucker.
I vote for a used Seymour Duncan (not Duncan Designed).
Nothing too crazy try something under 10 and remember that the pickups
can be 'voiced' by adjusting the polepiece screws.

Me too - you can make a vintage-output pickup hotter/boosted, but once your pickup is hitting the 16K range you're in deep shit versatility wise.

I'm not looking for versatility...and I hate high-output pups myself, but in this guitar, they are perfect. Same goes with ceramic magnets-I am looking for a butt-rock sound here

I read up on the GFS EVH, and it seems more like a full-range hum...they mainly mention the bass and high response on the website~not what I want, really...

There are some DiMarzios I mentioned earlier, like the Fred and Mo'Joe and Evo, but they tend to go a bit high on Ebay, so I am looking for more options...basically in the hopes that I can catch something that'll fall through the pickup mafioso's grip on ebay.

You know the type...good stuff, but unpopular on the tone wanker boards

Picked up an Olympic White Vintage Mod Squier Strat that is just stupid great for the money. Needed a Strat for a new gig and I don't like them so I was being cheap about it and scored a total win. Also have an older MIK Hamer Standard on the way.

Yeah I was out looking for Tele parts and I came across two MIJ reissue Strat bodies
and a bunch of misc. parts. Called a friend later and he sold me more parts.
The thing is - I still need Telecaster parts!

I scored a oly white 60's reissue Tele body that I'm going to put a Rev, Billy G. Beercaster neck on.
I was thinking about winding up some pu's but I've got this 25+ year old Schecter
Tele set that's calling me. They haven't been in a guitar in at least 15 years so it's time.

Nice looking LP, are those P-90's or P-100's?

Nice guitar Toro!

Musician's Friend has Ibanez FL9 Flangers for $50. They're coming in in a month. I bought one tonight.

Anyone try the Danelectro Cool Cat Distortion? Is it a MI Audio Crunch Box clone? Any other distortions like that for that price?

Maybe rather than trying a bunch of random pickups when the Distortion ALMOST does what you want, have you considered an EQ pedal instead to tame the low end you don't like?

When I had my Carvin X-amps, the drive channel was a little flubby. I found my BOSS SD-1 perfect for the drive channel because that pedal sucks a lot of low end out - bad for other amps where a Tube Screamer works better, but perfect for the X-amps for the same reason! It tightened them right up and I could add just enough drive to get metal tones.

You could go through 20 pickups and not find just what you need, but an EQ pedal allows you to change.... the EQ!! What a concept, eh?

That was about the first thing I tried...didn't really work. The problem is that if a pup has fundamental characteristics you don't care for, say the twang of a tele, all the eq in the world isn't going to change that or the way the pickup responds in a certain range.

...which is to say: I could ameliorate the lows coming from the pickup with the eq, but not make them tighter or more useful.

Doesn't matter tho. We did a run-through last night and the GFS was great...solid and midrangey with no sizzle or twang.

The stats as of now:

GFS: 1
Duncan: -2

Anybody have any experience with those Chinese counterfeit guitars? I'm thinking about taking a flyer on one. I figure best case I can end up with a decent guitar for very little dough (after a bunch of mods), and worst case I can Townsend it.
