It's Deron Wiilliams, but yeah. This is getting crazy.
It's basically the same deal that Denver would have gotten if they traded Carmelo to the Nets.
I didnt see this one coming.
Feel bad for Jordan Farmar. At least with Harris as pg he was getting minutes. Williams is a horse, and Farmar will have a lesser role than when he was a Laker.

"I feel Deron Williams is the best point guard in the NBA," Nets general manager Billy King said in officially announcing the blockbuster deal Wednesday afternoon.

"I spoke with Deron and he's excited about it. He understands where we are and where we want to go. In this league, you win with point guards.

As if he has any real fucking clue what wins in the NBA.

Team defense and an overall team effort on both ends of the court
win championships, year after year after year.

Ya wanna see the fucking LAKERS trophy case??

The Jazz were a perennial contender with Williams

Williams is solid, but I will take C Paul, Rondo, Derrik Rose before Williams. Two years ago he was best pg in league, not anymore.

It won't be all of next season if he won't sign an extension. Just like Carmelo. As far as who'll pay him, it wouldn't surprise me to see Orlando make a run at him. But if it's all about the dollars, he'll sign the extension with the Nets.

Since no one knows what's going to happen with the CBA, this sounds like strictly a rental.

Right or wrong, it's widely assumed that max money will be lower under the new CBA. That gives Williams some incentive to get an extension done now. But if he really doesn't want to be a Net/New Yorker/Whatever, it won't matter. Even if that happens, NJ might be able to deal him for something next year.

Kings request extension to decide relocation plans

Posted Feb 24 2011 7:58PM

(AP) -- The Sacramento Kings could be the next NBA franchise on the move.

In the latest and perhaps strongest signal yet that the Kings are considering a new home, the franchise filed a request Thursday for an extension on the NBA's March 1 deadline to inform the league if they intend to seek permission to relocate next season.

The Kings would have the opportunity to discuss their options at the NBA's Board of Governors meetings April 14-15, NBA spokesman Tim Frank confirmed in an e-mail to The Associated Press. The board is considering the Kings' request.

The filing took Sacramento mayor and former NBA player Kevin Johnson by surprise.

Johnson said he learned of the decision from a Google news alert and was upset he wasn't notified by the Kings first. He wrote on his Twitter account that it's "time to fight for our economic and cultural future. Kings relocation is bigger than a basketball team, and Sac deserves better."

"We're going to fight. The deal is not done," Johnson later said at a news conference in Sacramento. "We know they're looking elsewhere. But it's not a done deal. If it was a done deal, they would have filed on March 1."

Sacramento has struggled for years to build a new arena, which Kings owners Joe and Gavin Maloof argue is crucial for the franchise's long-term financial viability. Johnson said cash-strapped Sacramento will still work toward building a news sports arena with or without the Kings.

All signs in the past few weeks indicate the Kings are strongly exploring options outside out of California's capital city.

NBA Commissioner David Stern acknowledged during All-Star weekend that the Kings have had talks with officials in Anaheim, Calif., about relocating to its arena. Stern also said the NBA was no longer spending time or money to keep the Kings in Sacramento.

"With respect to Sacramento, all I'll say is that we and they have tried very hard over the years to see whether a new building could be built, and with the collapse of the last attempt, which took a few years and several million dollars on behalf of the league, I said we are not going to spend any more time on that," Stern said. "That is for the Maloofs and the people of Sacramento."

If the Kings moved to Orange County, they would be the third NBA team in the nation's second-biggest metropolitan area, but the potential benefits likely outweigh the drawbacks of moving into the archrival Lakers' backyard and competing with the Clippers.

Anaheim has been searching for an NBA team to share the Honda Center with the NHL's Ducks practically since the former Arrowhead Pond opened in 1993, flirting with the Clippers before owner Donald Sterling chose to move into Staples Center in 1999. Honda Center has been meticulously maintained and improved over the years, with excellent sight lines for basketball and 83 luxury suites, compared to just 30 primitive suites at Arco Arena.

Orange County also has a larger, wealthier population than the Central Valley, with a greater potential for corporate partnerships and higher ticket prices - and the beachside lifestyle could be much more attractive to NBA players. And though neither side has disclosed the particulars of the negotiations, the Maloofs also are likely to benefit from forging a close relationship with Henry Samueli, the billionaire Ducks owner whose management company runs the city-owned Honda Center.

As for Sacramento, relocation fears are nothing new.

With Arco Arena long considered outdated and attendance dwindling for a struggling Kings team was once home to one of the NBA's most fervent fan bases, notorious for their ear-piercing cow bells, cities such as Las Vegas, Kansas City and St. Louis also have been mentioned in the past as possible moves.

But the latest round of relocation chatter has certainly grabbed Sacramento's attention.

Those in Sacramento have stepped out there efforts to push for a new arena. An advertising agency even launched a $150,000 campaign earlier this week to generate awareness on the issue. The Glass Agency's campaign includes billboards, social media and online advertisements.

One billboard on Interstate 5 that already sprouted up in Sacramento has a deflated basketball with a sign that reads: "Game Over. If the Kings leave, we all lose."

The Seattle SuperSonics were the last NBA team to move. They became the Oklahoma City Thunder in 2008, leaving the Pacific Northwest after officials in Seattle didn't upgrade the facility or build a new arena.

Pro sports / arena-stadium ownership greed bullshit the typical pro sports fan never cares fuck all about.

30 primitive suites at Arco Arena.
What are they, in reality just expensive executive caves?
No running water or electricity inside the suites?
Not a single luxury?

Not seeing games at Arco like Kings in their measly amount of primitive suites?!

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Oh yeah Saco, tear that horrible place down!

Wait, so technically LA would have three teams now? Just move the Clippers to Anaheim. It would be kind of cool to see Las Vegas get a team. Las Vegas Kings has a nice ring to it.

Did you see how pissed Cuban was the league allowed New Orleans to make the trade that added to their payroll? That's going to cost him over $100K now that he's 1/29th owner of the team.

He's right. The Hornets are bleeding money, and they send "cash considerations" to Sacramento? Really?

A little closer to home, here is Bill Simmons' grade on the Charlotte/Portland trade:
THE FUTURE OF PRO BASKETBALL IN CHARLOTTE: D-minus-minus

In the past six months, the Bobcats gave away three of their best four players (Ray Felton, Gerald Wallace and Tyson Chandler) with two first-round picks to show for it: New Orleans' 2011 first-rounder (in the 20s) and Portland's 2011 first-rounder (ditto). That's a catastrophe. Even worse, you can't totally blame them: Nobody goes to their games, nobody watches them, and if they can't compete for a title, what's the sense of competing at all? Why not bottom out and hope for a miracle? Contract these guys. Move them to Vancouver. Move them to Seattle. Do something. The only way this situation could get worse is if Stephen Jackson decides to run into the stands and start inexplicably punching people.

Q: Why are so many NBA teams going broke?

A: NBA REFS SUCK.

Why not call the games as fair as fucking possible?
Do they really think the FANS are all fucking blind and can't see bad calls and missed calls and fucking repeated hacks all game long?

FUCK YOU NBA FRONT OFFICE.
YOU STUPID ASSHOLES ARE BLIND, NOT THE FANS WHO PAY FOR YOUR STUPID ASSES.

Why more disgruntled NBA fans from consistently loser cities don't repeatedly attack NBA refs after badly called games I'll never know and always be disappointed about.

MIAMI — This wasn’t Clarence Weatherspoon, one of many ghosts of Knicks-Heat past, teeing up a try for the game-winner and aiming a spear at Pat Riley’s heart. It may have felt like one of those vintage games, sure: gaggles of missed shots and hard fouls, neither team near triple digits, and Old Man Riles’ hangdog expression a courtside fixture.

But this was LeBron James with the ball in his hands now, staring down the Knicks with the clock bleeding away, the Knicks up one, thousands of loud, rambunctious Knicks fans standing among the 19,702 inside American Airlines Arena.
Anthony J. Causi
PACKING PUNCH: Amare’s Stoudemire pumps his fists in jubilation last night after blocking a late layup try by LeBron James — keying the Knicks’ dramatic 91-86 victory over the Heat in hostile Miami.
Photos: Knicks burn Miami Heat

“We knew this would be coming down to the end,” James would say later.

“Against good teams,” Chris Bosh would add, “you know you’re in for a fight.”

BOX SCORE

PHOTOS: KNICKS BEAT HEAT, 91-86

ANTHONY, STOUDEMIRE LEAD KNICKS OVER HEAT

BILLUPS MAKES 'BIG' DIFFERENCE FOR KNICKS

They surely weren’t thinking that earlier, back in the second quarter, when the Heat were flying in name-your-own-score mode, sailing to a 15-point lead, tying Spike Lee’s tongue in knots. But that was before the Knicks closed the half on a 16-0 run, offering a spectacular glimpse of mad possibility. Before the Knicks held off the Heat in the third quarter.

Before Chauncey Billups, Mr. Big Shot, turned the fourth quarter into his own personal parlor game for a key two-minute stretch, late.

So now the Knicks were up 87-86, there were 12.7 seconds left, the Knicks that close from collecting the most improbably splendid — or would it be splendidly improbable? — win in years.

Now LeBron James had the ball.

And Carmelo Anthony was on him. Anthony: brilliant all night offensively, 29 points and nine rebounds and, quite often, the one thing separating the Knicks from a blowout. Anthony: who’d talked his way onto guarding James in the game’s final few minutes, who’d listened to so much criticism from his old coach, George Karl, and an army of anonymous scouts and fans who believed he was allergic to defense.

LEBRON'S GAME ONE-DIMENSIONAL

PISTON MUTINY SHOULD BE WARNING FOR MIKE

“I told y’all when I made this move I wanted to take on challenges,” Anthony would say later. “And tonight was a big challenge for me.”

Now James made his move, with Heat fans roaring and Knicks fans trying to out-roar them, with Anthony denying him an easy path to the lane, but LeBron still getting a half a step on him, still able to coax a shot at the rim.

“He got a good look at it,” Heat coach Erik Spoelstra would say.

But what he also got a good look at was Amar’e Stoudemire. Stoudemire: the man on whose broad shoulders this Knicks’ renaissance had begun this year, the Johnny Appleseed of New York’s basketball revival, the one who made it OK to think about big things in the big city again, but whose own defense had become something of an inside joke around the NBA, too.

James jumped. Stoudemire jumped. The ball was in the air. And then it was colliding with Stoudemire’s hand.

“Not many guys can do that,” Spoelstra said, shaking his head, “meet [LeBron] up there with that type of speed.”

That was it. That was the game. The Knicks would make their free throws, James would badly miss one last 3 for the tie, and when the buzzer groaned, when this 91-86 Knicks victory was complete, it was plainly apparent that the Knicks are rapidly becoming less of a theory and more of a truth, less abstract possibility and more tantalizing promise.

Yes, they are still capable of planting the kind of stink bomb that littered Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland on Friday night.

But they are clearly capable of this, too.

“I know [Anthony and Stoudemire] have big hearts,” Knicks coach Mike D’Antoni would say. “In big moments, big games, big shoulders. They both have them. The bigger the stage, the bigger the game, the bigger they play. They just showed it.”

In the five days since the trade, they’d all heard plenty about who wasn’t here any longer, and what this team was lacking. Suddenly, it is OK to ponder who is here. And just what this team may yet become. Settle in. It’s going to be one hell of a ride.

What's the Heat's record against playoff caliber teams this season? If I remember, they haven't beaten Boston at all and the Knicks have beat them twice. It seems they've gotten one of the best records in the league by beating crap teams.

Heat part with Arroyo, clearing spot for Bibby

Posted Mar 1 2011 9:25PM

MIAMI (AP) -- LeBron James spoke with Mike Bibby after a game last week, and the NBA's two-time reigning MVP is keeping the exact details of that chat private.

This much is known: It was a recruiting pitch.

"I gave him the eye," James said. "And I guess the eye worked."

By Wednesday night, James and the Heat will be able to say that with certainty.

The Heat cleared a roster spot Tuesday by parting ways with Carlos Arroyo, and although the team made no formal pronouncements because of NBA rules, several players - James, Dwyane Wade and Mario Chalmers among them - said they will have Bibby aboard soon.

Bibby is expected to be in South Florida on Wednesday, will likely participate in Thursday morning's shootaround practice and should be in uniform when the Heat play the Orlando Magic that night.

"I think it's a big thing for us," said Heat guard Eddie House, Bibby's brother-in-law. "He's going to do a lot of things that can help LeBron, Dwyane and everyone else around here."

Miami announced the Arroyo move in time for the veteran guard to sign with another team and be eligible for its postseason roster.

"This was a very difficult decision to make because Carlos has done a great job for this team and this organization," Heat President Pat Riley said. "He is truly a first class individual and professional. We wish him nothing but the best."

Bibby was traded by Atlanta to Washington last week. He was in Miami on Friday for his first - and ultimately, next-to-last - game with the Wizards, saying he was aware of buyout rumblings but did not know what the future held.

"I can't control it," Bibby said.

The Wizards and Bibby reached a buyout agreement on Monday, and he didn't take long to pick his next destination. It means the Heat, at a crucial time of the season, will be giving a new point guard on-the-fly training about how they play the game.

"It's easier with veteran players with high IQs and if you have a definitive system and philosophy," Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said. "Which we do."

Since Bibby won't be a Heat player until Wednesday, Spoelstra could not speak about him specifically.

James could.

"He's going to help us out tremendously," James said.

The Heat had conversations with other players who hit the market through buyouts, including Troy Murphy, who is expected to sign Wednesday with Boston. If Murphy picked Miami, the Heat would have likely waived little-used big man Jamaal Magloire to create another roster spot.

Magloire was relieved to be in practice Tuesday.

"I would have been disappointed otherwise," Magloire said.

Spoelstra said he cannot wait for the speculating about what'll happen with Miami's roster to end.

"Once you get past this date, you can focus on absolutes - who you have and who you don't have," Spoelstra said. "And we're close. ... I feel that our team is good enough."

Miami (43-17) entered play Tuesday one game behind Boston (43-15) and a game ahead of Chicago (41-17) in the race for the top spot in the Eastern Conference.

Bibby averaged 9.4 points and 3.6 assists as a starter with Atlanta this season, his 13th in the league. The Heat would become his fifth NBA team, a list also including Vancouver, Sacramento, the Hawks and the Wizards, with whom he shot 1 for 9 in two games after the trade that he said caught him by surprise last week.

He's also appeared and started in 80 postseason games, which is more than any other current Heat player. James and Zydrunas Ilgauskas have been in 71 playoff games, all during their time in Cleveland together.

"Certain moves are surprising and unexpected," Wade said. "The Mike Bibby (trade) was probably the most surprising, unexpected move. A lot of people think it was the Kendrick Perkins move (from Boston to Oklahoma City), but I think it was Mike Bibby. No one expected that. He became available and when opportunities present themselves you've got to jump on them."

Arroyo was not at practice and did not immediately respond to a text message. He started 42 games for Miami this season and played in seven others, but logged only 27 minutes of court time since Jan. 30 - more than half of that coming in a Feb. 16 game at Toronto.

"It's never easy," Wade said. "It's always bittersweet, especially in this situation for Carlos. You look at it, he was doing a great job starting, really didn't do anything wrong. It's very unfortunate. The one thing we can do is hope that he ends up in a good situation."

He'll be crying in May anyway...
