I wouldn't count it as "same old Dodgers". Their Division is locked up so I wouldn't expect them as a whole to try to win every game. If that's the case Mattingly isn't preparing them properly for the playoffs. I've stated my previous observation before that I think they get knocked out before the NLCS, the team has flaws fundamentally ( ie. baserunning ) that historically has done teams in riding a couple player's incredible season.

#2 SF while has dealt with a lot of turmoil, underperformance and injuries is still pretty fucking tough, just not consistent. They have a lot to prove having such a bad season.

#3 The Dodgers pitching has been unreal so unless their being told "get your work in", them faltering a bit at the end of the season is kinda to be expected.

Donnie Foosball pinch hits Matt Kemp with 2 men on, and down by one in the top of the 9th.

Kemp hasn't played in what, in 2 months and could barely get a hit in AAA.

Probably my two favorite players during their era.

I remember being shocked when the Rockies released Andrés Galarraga who hit like 150 RBI's and well over .300 the previous year but it didn't take long to understand how much of a monster Helton was.

Vladmir's had one of the best HR swings ever, enjoyed the shit outta watching him play.

That was great. There will never be another closer as good as him, with all of his humility and compassion it's hard to believe there will be another player with that level of class either.

Living in Montreal, and being an Expos fan, when Vladamir broke out, was an incredible thing! The guy was a wide-eyed boy who loved the game. His arm was sick, he could run, and there was NO PLACE a pitcher could safely throw without fear of Vladamir hitting it out of the park.

He was never noted as a juicer either.

Not sure if he has HOF numbers, but he might very well see the most talented ball player I've ever seen play in person, and I grew up watching Raines, Carter, Dawson, Valentine, Moises Alou, Al Oliver, and a lot of great Expos.

So sad Mo is retiring. Even sadder since the Yankees playoff hopes are
slim to none at this point.
Mo wanted to retire last year but the knee injury early in the season delayed those plans by 1 year.

Yankees fans like myself have been very, very spoiled to have a closer like Mo. A closer that has been holding down that job at a high level since '98.
No other team can claim that.

Fuck the NBA.
I have not watched an NBA game from start to finish in over
10 years.
To me the NBA game is very boring. I'd rather watch NCAA
Basketball.

I stated before I've watched a ton of games at Coors field. Nothing like watching Dante Bichette, Andrés Galarraga and Larry Walker in a row. Walkers one of my favorite players of the era.

Some of the best at bat's I've seen involved Larry including the all star game when Walkers switched Righty and turned his helmet backwards facing Randy Johnson...Come to think of is both Larry and Randy played with the Expos as well.

Randy Johnson Pitch Behind Larry Walker's Head

Change that....not released, but "Designated For Assignment".....but it still looks like his days with the Cubs are more than likely over.

From espnchicago.com:

Marmol, who was making $9.8 million this season, will be in baseball limbo for 10 days while the Cubs try to work out a trade.
You know there isn't a chance in hell anyone takes a chance on his ass right?

Hey thanks for MARMOL!
Just tossed two strikeouts in another scoreless inning the other day. He's 3.31 since leaving the Cub's. Marmol has not allowed a run in his last 7.2 innings. (Fri Aug 23) take out a 2 inning and he didn't allow an ERA in a month Aug/SEP.

Cubs: 5.86 ERA
Dodgers: 3.31 ERA

Marmol tossed another scoreless 1.1 tonight.

Beane will blame it on the stadium. Last year when they stormed into first a lot of fans were trying to buy tix, but they wouldn't open up the top section of the coliseum. They need a new place to play I agree with that. I believe the San Jose deal fell through since it's SF's turf.

Hopefully they can stay in Oakland.

NY Yankees - 3 games back in the wild card and have to leap frog 4 teams again!

Following the Yankees elimination numbers is better then watching the biggest asshole arrogant crooked fuckheaded politician lose a political race.

Just having A-Roid on the staff is enough to enjoy watching them FUCKING FAIL! Can't wait till Aids-Roids is out of the game and hope he goes down so shameful and disrespectfully he's starts crying during every TV interview and gets ridiculed till the end of time.

I'd love to see him fail another test.

Red Sox worst to first.
Saw a stat last night that said this is the first time since 1946 that they were over .500 for the entire season.

That's surprising to me, because the 2007 team was pretty fucking mean.

The Dodgers won the Division too. Aside from the AZ pool incident, I'm looking forward to them in the postseason.
1. I think they're gonna get kmocked out.
2. The possible Wainwright vs. Kershaw matchup will possibly be the highlight of the postseason.
3. Puig's arrogant ass botching fundamental plays on the biggest stage is going to be a treat to watch.

Today was Mariano Rivera Day at MFY Stadium. A lot of former teamates showed up to pay their respects including Torre, Williams, Cone, Jeff Nelson ( Jeff Nelson are you fucking kidding me? Dynasty starts with Nelson  ), Jackie Robinson's widow and daughters, Martinez, Matsui, etc.

Metallica was also on hand to play "Enter Sandman" along with wearing Mariano uniforms, and having a specially designed 42 amp to donate.

Unfortunately SF won 2 - 1 so Rivera didn't get to pitch on his day.

Atlanta locked up the East with Washington's loss, also they're up 3 - 1 in Chicago top of the eighth. So I think that makes it doubley sure.

*edit*

Make that tripley sure. They're up 5 - 1, top of the eighth.

Ryne Sandberg was named Philly's new manager.

Manuel had a helluva run with them do you think since their playoff aspirations were gone, they should've let Charlie finish out the season? I get that change was needed and the team has done better under Sandberg, but is there really too much of a difference between last place and second to last?

Kill, Mo actually pitched 1 2/3 today. He came in after they gave up the lead in the 8th with a man on 2nd and 1 out. Worked out of that and got around an error in the 9th. Epic destruction of Buster Posey's bat in the 9th if you can check that out. Odd that Giradi went to him in that scenario but he has had him in there in a ton of late. 5th or 6th time in the last few weeks that he has been in as early as the 8th. They also said after the game that he was coming back in for his 3rd inning of work if the Yankees tied it in the bottom of the 9th. The man is amazing.

Incredible ceremony prior. I think he requested some guys be there, including Nelson for whatever reason. They retired Mariano's number to monument park while he is still wearing it-unbelievable. MLB and the Yankees have really embraced this as they should with all the positivity he brings to the game in comparison to so many other stars of this era. I've just never seen anything like today, or this whole season, but then I've never seen anyone like Mariano Rivera either.

I said it after the all-star game and it certainly applies today. Just staggering that he can set aside the emotions of a day like today and roll out there and pitch the way he does. Again, nearly 2 innings today at nearly 44 years old with all that emotion of the day.

He nor Pettitte got a win today but it certainly wasn't due to their efforts as they both showed up huge.
