Re: El Toro's Official Guitarded Thread...
I've developed a new hobby...
Calling people on Craigslist who have an amp I want to buy (Silverface or Blackface fender combos 50 watts or more for $500, not including Hot Rod stuff), then waiting as they NEVER EVER CALL BACK.
Seriously. Why do people put their shit up if they aren't going to respond?
One guy I actually talked to. He was all "Oh, hey, I gotta do a thing. I'll call you back in 10 minutes".
That was a week ago.
Fucker.

I have done the same thing... CL guys are flakey. I recently bought two cars off CL. The guys were so lame at calling me back, that when they finally did, I lowballed the shit out of them.

Re: El Toro's Official Guitarded Thread...
I am currently in holding pattern hell with yet another Japanese seller on eBay. It's a familiar position because they all seem to ignore communications. This guy lists the guitar with model number, color, and nothing else. No picture, no half ass stab at specs, no idea whether it comes with a case or not, almost nothing to go on other than the fact that I've been looking for this fucking thing for 2 or 3 years, the right price and model finally comes up and this idiot can't even respond with a bare minimum description of the goddamn thing.Sleek wrote:I've developed a new hobby...

I'm gonna put up a listing on ebay that just says "Guitar" and put a price on it with no picture. Under the description I'm gonna put "It's a good one" and that's it. WTF?

Re: El Toro's Official Guitarded Thread...
As the legendary band Survivor once said, the search is over.
Just got me a Jap-made Burny lawsuit Les Paul. I'm totally digging it. I'm not gonna rule out fucking with a few things like pick-ups and tuners (like I always do) but goddamn, this thing kicks ass right out of the box! It's brand new; I thought I was getting one from this year and I don't know how this works, but this is actually a 2009 model. I guess it was just laying around a warehouse for 5 years or something.
No Gibson bullshit, excellent price (about a third to a quarter of what a Gibson LP costs these days), plays and sounds amazing. I couldn't be happier.

Re: El Toro's Official Guitarded Thread...
Finally pulled the trigger on a new Carvin Legacy 3 100W head. Holyfuckballs. Best amp I've ever owned and I've had some nice ones. Blows my Koch Multitone 50W away and that's hard to do!
25" wide and only 29 lbs. Scalable wattage from 15W/50W/100. It's a Vai Signature model but damned if I can hear any of his tone in it. Don't care either way. Fuck me....I can't stop playing it.
And yes....it has backlit LED's that change color with each channel. Nifty.
Here's me playing some sound clips on video below. They're Vine videos so 7 second limit on all and you may or may not have to unmute them as they're sometimes muted by default.
So. Happy.
(and yes....that's Ballad Of Jayne in the first clip)

Vine's are set to loop the video on a neverending cycle so they set all vids by default to "Mute". Hover over the vids and in the upper left of each is a volume control. Click to un-mute it.ElToro wrote:Why can't I hear it?

Re: El Toro's Official Guitarded Thread...
I just ordered a Randall RG1503-212 combo. I'm actually a fan of that compressed-as-hell-metal tone. Tommy Victor from Prong has one of my favorite tones ever, so there you go. I had both Marshall Valvestate 8080 combo and V100 stack in the past. Some people turn their nose up at the solid state stuff, but it's always been my thing. Looking forward to plugging into the Randall.
Re: El Toro's Official Guitarded Thread...
I had and still have (it doesn't work anymore:( ) an original '80's RG100 HT.
I loved that thing!
The only problem was when I started playing with another guitarist who had a tube amp...for some reason, the transistor stuff just doesn't have the presence tube amps do. I would have to be deafeningly loud before I could actually hear myself against his amp, which was sort of painful for everyone involved.
I replaced it with a block letter 5150, which was sort of the same but with tubes...and it still works.
Finding a tech who wants to deal with old transistor stuff is nearly impossible.
That RG100 was damn good though...I did a New York trip with my band in the nineties...just put it in a suitcase and borrowed cabs...(it's the rack one)
In another band, I also have a pedalboard with a 4 space rack that I would have that in and just ran speaker cords to my cabs to complete the rig. Having alla yer controls up front is awesome...
Did I mention I like this thing?

Re: El Toro's Official Guitarded Thread...
The Randall should be there when I get home from work. I just now realized that I could have gotten the RG80, for 1/2 the price, and that still would have been more than enough for me. I'm pretty sure this one I got is gonna be super overkill.

Re: El Toro's Official Guitarded Thread...
Here's an awesome story from last night:
"The return of THE BEAST...
went out to a local show for some live music last night, (not something I do very often since I stopped playing live on a regular basis) cool Southern Rock band was jammin' some original Skynard/Allman ripoffs but they sounded good, girl I was with wanted to go outside for a few to cool off.
The first band (that we just caught the last two songs of their set) was outside shootin' the shit drinkin a few beers and smoking. The guitar was asked about "his tone" it was a simple Gibson explorer/modded 800 tone and blah blah blah, then he went in to the story of the guitar...
he was 16 at a local show, watching a metal band playing and really liked the players' guitars. so in his words, "being a little shit" he waited til' that band was loading up, walked over to the gear and took the guitar (this is when I started to listen intently) laughing as he told the story while chugging his Bud light and describing the band.
I walked over laughing holding my cup of black coffee, and entered the conversation... "Haha, I think I was at that show... I named the band, and told him that I even remembered the guitarists name, "I'm pretty sure his name was Dan Hockenberry"
and then I put out my in a gesture to shake, and introduced myself "IM Dan Hockenberry, good to finally meet you"
There's a point in every man's life when you realize you made a mistake... some face it head on and deal with the consequences, some lie and try to get out of responsibility, and some cower and beg. This kid was a combination of the last two. Still gripping his hand and staring into his eyes after I introduced myself, and watched as ALL the bravado, and group-based toughness drained from his body as he turned white as a ghost.
It's unfortunate how many times he clumsily fell down over the next 5-10 minutes, and really unfortunate he won't be able to sing/play for a few months. but after I helped him back up for the umpteenth time he gave me back the guitar he stole almost 7 years ago."
