Don't know what the bracket will look like but I'm not betting any money on this. Germany, Spain and Brazil will battle it out but it could be either one of those three.

Re: Official Brazil 2014 FIFA World Cup Football Thread
If Germany and Brazil win their group but Spain takes second to Holland, Brazil v Spain in the first match of the second round with Germany in the same bracketGermany, Spain and Brazil will battle it out but it could be either one of those three.
Here's the second round match-ups if my above predictions come trueFullDJacket wrote:Don't know what the bracket will look like but I'm not betting any money on this.
1A v 2B - Brazil v Holland
1C v 2D - Colombia v Italy
---------winner of these two play each other in the quarterfinals
1E v 2F - France v Nigeria
1G v 2H - Germany v South Korea
---------same as above, winners of each quarter will face each other
1B v 2A - Spain v Mexico
1D v 2C - Uruguay v Japan
---------
1F v 2E - Argentina v Honduras
1H v 2G - Belgium v Portugal
I know I made some unorthodox choices but there are always upsets and Cinderella teams every World Cup. And, yes, I did pick England to place 4th in their group.

Re: Official Brazil 2014 FIFA World Cup Football Thread
No team from outside South America has ever won a World Cup in South America so gotta go for Brazil with home advantage.
Biggest disappointment will be Russia. I think the surprise team will be Switzerland. England underachieving should not surprise anyone. Plus they're a youngish team in the worst group they could've drawn.

I know the pools are never perfectly balanced, but Group B, D and G vs Group H?!

I'm hoping England and Netherlands will do well, so I'm in for a disappointment. It's interesting to see how Belgium will do. It's their best team ever, materialwise.

Haven't really seen any qualifying games from Belgium. If I had to pick a surprise team it would be Bosnia-Herzegovina. Croatia has a good squad as well.

Re: Official Brazil 2014 FIFA World Cup Football Thread
I could see them advancing. Mexico has advanced the last 5 World Cups and Croatia poses the biggest threat to break that streak as no team in that group is going to threaten Brazil.SebastianLeeDanzig wrote:Croatia has a good squad as well.
I had Costa Rica slotted in 3rd over England. I would like to change that as Alvaro Saborio broke his foot and he's their most dangerous player. This is the first time CONCACAF has had four teams and all four may not advance.
I wouldn't doubt it if Blatter put all four in the toughest groups so he can justify taking away the 4th playoff spot and give it back to Europe. CONCACAF gave him a lot of embarrassing problems with Jack Warner and Chuck Blazer and I can see this as some of his revenge.
I never made my pick to lift the cup . . . There has been such little fanfare about him leading up to this World Cup compared to the media onslaught that besieged us in 2010 but I think Messi finally has the World Cup everyone has been expecting from him. He is healthy at the right time and he, along with Aguero and Di Maria, will lead Argentina to victory over either Germany or Brazil in the final.

Haven't checked any particular world cup sites, but I usually use http://www.firstrows.eu/soccer for everything.

I don't know. Argentina's been mediocre forever, Germany's top players are all injured or out of shape... can't see either one as a favorite for even the quarters. Spain might be over the hill, too. I'd pick Brazil, but that would be too safe as hosts, so I'll say Italy takes the cup. The less deserving they appear, the more favorable you can rate them. It would also piss me off the most, so they're pretty much a shoo-in.Rageman wrote:I never made my pick to lift the cup . . . And the host is already getting favors. Would suck to see a weak-ass Brazil being handed the win like that.

Especially annoying that it happened in the very first game, sending a clear message to all divas and bitches in the tournament to dive to their heart's content.

Diving is so much B.S. Any player that purposely dives should be tossed from the game and suspended for an indefinite amount of time.
This game would be so much better without the pussy diving.
The act is so hypocritical. When your teammate does that you cry to the ref for a foul.
When the opposing team players commits the same pussy act, you cry to the ref about why the call was made.
Play the game straight up. It's time to remove all pussy ass diving for once.

Google "Sports Streaming"..there is a website called "Top 10 Sports Streaming Websites" that has all the good ones. There is one called "Stream2WatchMe" that is my go-to for most games. Be warned that there are a ridiculous amount of popups for video player downloads that you don't need. Once you get through all of them you're set.Machado wrote:Who can recommend a website or two that will be streaming the games

That was pretty awesome. One of the most entertaining preliminary games I've seen. I'm not sure it's even legal for me to enjoy a Holland win that much.

Germany looking a lot better than I thought so far! Red card was pretty harsh, though. Then again, Pepe always deserves it as far as I'm concerned.

Damn, what a contrast now: Iran vs. Nigeria is the worst World Cup game in recent memory. There's better passing game at the low end of our national bitch soccer league. Bosnia should wipe the floor with both these teams.
