Bryce has a lot of growing up to do. Maybe Jeter should take him under
his wing for an off-season or two

Yadier Molina out for remainder of regular season, possibly playoffs. They had the best staff in baseball without Wainwright too, so who knows?
Jerry Dipoto named Mariners GM. Howard Lincoln strikes again and the Mariners remain battling it out for last place.

Re: Killeverything's (New)NeverEndingBaseballThread
Clinchin Kershaw, LA wins West, KOs Giants! Fuck the giants and their bald headed overweight marshmallow bunny eating asses.
Dodgers 8 Giants 0
Kershaw - 9IP 1H 0ER 1BB 13SO 2.16ERA
Bumgarner - 5.2IP 5H 4R 3ER 1BB 6SO 3HR 2.93ERA
"LAD clinched the division but the Giants won three World Series in the past five years so fuck the Giants all the way back to 1988. Take your trophy's and go home! Enjoy the seats!"
SAN FRANCISCO -- Reigning MVP Clayton Kershaw pitched the Dodgers to their third consecutive NL West title Tuesday night, besting Madison Bumgarner with a one-hit masterpiece and 8-0 shutout over the defending world champion and arch-rival Giants.
Kershaw became the second pitcher in MLB history to throw a shutout of 1 hit or less in a division-clinching start. The first came on a no-hitter from Astros right-hander Mike Scott vs. the Giants in 1986.
Actually it's......
"They won three World Series in the past five years. We might have clinched the division, but they still are in a better spot than we are. That's what we're trying to get to." -- Kershaw on the Giants
------------------------------------
I wished the Giants would have made it over the Cubs. I'm sick to death of the Cub coverage. Other then LAD winning the West, the NL isn't all that exciting other then how many games the Bullpen is going to blow for the Dodgers.
That and hopefully the WC game will be great.
Dodgers - I don't expect them to make it out of the round but LAD facing the Met's I hope they rock Harvey's pitch count. LAD needs Home Field Advantage to even have a chance.
-------------------------------------
Houston drops out of the WC! After all they've done this year to be over taken by LAAAA in the last week would suck. Butttttttttt.
Houston - all on the road 1 @ Seattle, 3@ Arizona
Texas - all at home 1 vs Detroit, 4 vs LAAAAAAngels of Anaheim.
LAAAAAAngels of Anaheim. 1 vs A's, 4 @ Texas
Minnesota - double header tomorrow, 3@ Cleveland, 3 vs Kansas City - 6 games in 5 days.
Dodgers 8 Giants 0
Kershaw - 9IP 1H 0ER 1BB 13SO 2.16ERA
Bumgarner - 5.2IP 5H 4R 3ER 1BB 6SO 3HR 2.93ERA

Re: Killeverything's (New)NeverEndingBaseballThread
Kershaw pitched one helluva game, he always seems to have one more great one left in him....right before the playoffs. I'm fighting getting sick, so I woke up to "holy shit it's 8 - nothing? Fuck. Whatever." Neither NL West team will go all the way. SF was decimated by injuries and bullpen, and LAD has Mattingly with injuries and a bitchy bullpen.
Until they get eliminated, we're going to hear about the Cubs. I just think it absolves Theo of any "WTFs?" from Boston. It was Werner and Lucchino all along. Same with this year with Fat Panda ( 5 years
) and Hanley. I think Cherington took the blame for that one too. He refused to speak with Seattle for the GM spot. God, their ownership sucks.
St. Louis mlb's zombie team is still the scariest motherfuckers out there. I just don't know what's going to happen with the Molina situation. Losing him would be like SF without Posey, or you would think. I have no favorites in the NL but the Harvey situation pisses me off. For the AL I'm sipping the Toronto Kool-Aid, as long as KC gets knocked out first I'm cool. Bummer about Houston. I like a Cinderella story.
Go baseball.

Since two months in it's been Cubs this and that. Bryant for the Nobel Peace Prize. The last two weeks nothing but fucking Cub games not including Cub talk all second fucking half, Cub take a shit details at 11......They're like the marshmallow version of KC. Every time I see a Cubs segment it's like watching that Celine Dion animal abuse commercial.killeverything wrote:Until they get eliminated, we're going to hear about the Cubs.
Cubs vs KC would be like a muppet StarWars version of good vs evil.

I expected to have the Cubs story on full blast. Remember the media hype in 2004 with Boston, especially with 2003's game 7? 100+ years of suffering, President/GM were the Red Sox's, Bryant probably beating Duffy and Kang for ROY, Arrieta a 20 game winner, Maddon, etc.
It's good for baseball. KC had some hype last season but they've been such assholes like a wannabe '90 Pistons that I think the tide turned against them a little bit.
So did the best record in the AL which now belongs to Toronto by 2 games. Womp, womp.
King Felix shutdown and won't pitch final weekend series. Ends season with less than 200Ks. The first time he did that in 7 years.
I'm still pulling for Cespedes as the NL MVP. That's the only one I don't think is an obvious no brainer. Maybe the AL Cy Young too ( I've got Price myself ).

I read in an SI I believe that St. Louis was called a "Zombie Team" around the league, because they keep coming at you. No matter who goes down they still lock up the best record in baseball, lose their ace....lead all pitching staffs, etc.Bighole wrote:What's a "zombie team?"killeverything wrote: St. Louis mlb's zombie team is still the scariest motherfuckers out there. Speaking of zombies, the Cards just activated Wainwright from the DL. Jebus.I heard Molina is out for the year.
I thought it was a pretty clever and funny statement. I don't know about surviving losing Molina though. He and Posey are arguably the best catchers in all of baseball. Offense, Defense, pitchcalling. They've got it locked up. The Cards dominance on the mound has a lot to do with Molina. That's a devastating blow.
Re: Killeverything's (New)NeverEndingBaseballThread
Pretty good beanball war last night between Philly and Mets.
Cespedes was drilled on the hand. Later in the game one Philly player
is drilled in the back. He walked to 1st base without any altercation.
Then later in the game a Mets reliever almost hit a Phillie in the face with a heater.
That was uncalled for. Some pitchers(KC staff) have no idea how to hit a batter or when to stop hitting a batter.

In what does not outwardly appear to be a joke, one self-proclaimed lifelong Cubs fan is seeking to orchestrate an offering to Bartman: forgiveness and a sweet accommodations package worth $5,000, including the cost of his attendance at the NL Wild Card Game between the Pirates and Cubs, which will likely take place in Pittsburgh.
Writes Cubs fan Keque Escobedo on GoFundMe:
Lifelong Cubs fan wants to make amends for 2003, lets make it happen. First we need to find him to get him to the big game. If anyone knows where he is at, tell him we are looking for him. The money would pay for his expenses including his ticket, hotel room, flights and a little spending money.

Dodgers - Zack Greinke earned the National League ERA title and the Dodgers clinched home-field advantage vs The Mets in the NLDS by beating the Padres 2-1 with Greinke's career-best 19th win and 1.66ERA....
Puig was activated and went 1 for 3 today. Fucking typical, Puig comes back and Van Slyke get's injured, possibly out for the season. That sucks.
Washington - Mets lose both games in a double header vs the Nat's.
Scherzer No-Hits the Mets in a record-tying 17SO and his 2nd no-hitter of the year making Scherzer the sixth pitcher to throw two no-hitters in the same season. 17SO is a new National's record....Scherzer's 17 strikeouts tied Ryan for the most in any no-hitter and set the record for the most strikeouts in a no-hit, no-walk game. I'm sure Washington is happy, What a waste, the Nat's should have been a better team. If Scherzer wasn't swinging wet news papers.....
KC eliminates Twins
Yankees - lose both games in a double header vs The O's. If the Yankees didn't fucking clinch already this put's them at +1 in the WC. Home field for the WC is up for grabs, if the Yankees lose they could lose home court if the LAAA and Stro's play a tiebreaker...Something like that.
Angels 11 Texas 10 - Angels score 5 in the 9th to stay in the battle!
Houston and LAAA - If Houston beats the Dbacks or LAAA lose to the Stro's they're in....If the Astros lose and LAAA wins they play a one game playoff on Monday. Then the winner gets to go on and host another one game WC playoff vs the Yankees.
If the Cubs win and the Pirates lose the Cubs host the WC game....Cubs lose or Pirates win, the Pirates host the Cubs.
With 294 strikeouts, Kershaw needs six more to become the first big leaguer to reach the 300 mark since Curt Schilling and Randy Johnson in 2002, as well as the second Dodger to do so, after Sandy Koufax (1963, '65-66).
KC - If the Royals lose and Canada wins, the Blu Jay's get home field, the Jay's own the tie breaker. Cueto takes the mound tomorrow vs The Twins, he's sporting a 4.95 ERA in 12 outings for the Royals.
Let me be the first to say, I still don't like the current playoff system and prefer the old one. It's a love hate thing that gives ONE exciting game but screws with pitching line ups, momentum, if there's a tie-breaker that's another factor.
A second WC team just so they can play one game to win and go on. Not really into it with all the factors involved.
---------------------------------------------------
In major news - Oakland 7 Seattle 5 F/13
The A's win another! At least they're not the worst team in MLB, just in the AL.
The M's on the other hand might be the most disappointing team in the AL.
More importantly.......The Marlins lock up 3rd place with 71W-90L only 18 back of 1st place. At the beginning I said the Fish will get 3rd but hoping for 2nd. Without the injuries they could have won 12 more and had a fight for 2nd place.
Maybe next year Fish. I'm amazed they didn't finish last with everything they've dealt with.

I'm with ya on the new playoff format. I kinda like it, but think it's stupid a team that won 95+ could be knocked out in one game.
Re: Killeverything's (New)NeverEndingBaseballThread
Clayton Kershaw became the third pitcher since 2000 to post a 300-strikeout season, joining Curt Schilling and Hall of Famer Randy Johnson in the elite club in the last game of the regular season Sunday against the Padres.
Clayton was on a pitch count expected around 4 innings to get 6SO, ended up getting 7SO in 3.2IP before getting yanked. Now lets see what carries over.
---------
LAAA vs Texas game is great so far, LAAA had the lead till Beltre jacked a 2R over the fence in the 5th to take the lead 3-2
Flipping back n forth with the Houston vs Dbacks.......Dbacks had the lead till the Astros tied it up at 2 in the 5th.

Kershaw is one of those players that you can root against him all you want, but is such an amazing talent and has a likable persona that you can't help for kind of cheeing for the guy. He's like a Bryce Harper opposite.UtahRatt wrote:Clayton Kershaw became the third pitcher since 2000 to post a 300-strikeout season, joining Curt Schilling and Hall of Famer Randy Johnson in the elite club in the last game of the regular season Sunday against the Padres.

Re: Killeverything's (New)NeverEndingBaseballThread
Marlins 2 Phillies 7 - Ichiro Suzuki 1IP 2H 1R 1ER
After years and years of begging managers from Japan to the MLB the Marlins finally gave Ichiro Suzuki his shot on the mound in the last inning. Throwing 11 of his 18 pitches for strikes
Guess he was a good High School Pitcher, he pitched better then Jim Johnson LAD's Game Killer.
They hit him pretty hard. First hit a double, second a long fly moving the runner to 3rd, next batter doubled in the runner, then a ground out and a pop up. Add that to his HOF ballet.

It's been hard being an LAD fan when over the last couple years the team was a dugout packed full of asshole money players I practically hated that failed in the playoffs. Then this year has been a total makeover which is kind of refreshing but Clayton has been about the only constant on the team since he came up like 7 years ago. With the way he's pitched and handled himself on and off the field during everything I can't help but want to see him be in the league of Pedro's with all the trimmings, a ring, HOF. My only hope is he is able to beat the combination of Mattingly running him dry, the one inning curse and a bad pitch called in the playoffs.
I said before the season I felt Clayton would have a down/average year then he comes out of the gates with 10 starts 3.97ERA 3W-3L and I was like....Fucking seriously? Then to gut check and finish 33 starts with a, 2.13ERA, 16W 7L, 301SO, 42BB, .88WHIP just made me the fan club president.
With all the young guys and trades, LAD may not contend this season but at least I like the team and they have a good foundation. Joc and Seager hit HR's today.

Well it only took the Padres an hour!
San Diego - Murphy won't return as Padres manager.
Murphy: I didn't get a chance to be me in 1st year!
A little more than an hour after the 6-3 loss to the Dodgers, the team announced that Murphy will not return in the same capacity in 2016. Interim skipper won't be considered for managerial role next season
Murphy - "I don't think I got a chance to be me," "I didn't get to set the tone the way that I wanted to do it. I found out that my inner self isn't great unless I really get to put my mark on it. Murphy finished his tenure with the Padres with a 42-54 record.
"I found out that my inner self isn't great unless I really get to put my mark on it."? WTF is that? Some Zen and Chi shit?
After years and years of begging managers from Japan to the MLB the Marlins finally gave Ichiro Suzuki his shot on the mound in the last inning. Throwing 11 of his 18 pitches for strikes
Guess he was a good High School Pitcher, he pitched better then Jim Johnson LAD's Game Killer.
They hit him pretty hard. First hit a double, second a long fly moving the runner to 3rd, next batter doubled in the runner, then a ground out and a pop up. Add that to his HOF ballet.
-------------------------------
And that sucks, remember I was a big Harper fan going into the season holding up my MVP sign but I stopped before the hair flip and he turned into Gary Sheffield. The game could use more great likable players. Adrian Beltre's? I'm not sure who's out there to be the awesome good guys. What's Goldschmidt reputation like in the dugout?killeverything wrote:Kershaw is one of those players that you can root against him all you want, but is such an amazing talent and has a likable persona that you can't help for kind of cheeing for the guy. Dodgers vs METS........27 years later exactly, here we go again.
1988, people remember LAD facing the A's in the WS but they tend to overlook the Dodgers vs METS NLCS of the century. The METS were stacked! I wonder how much cocaine they went through with Strawberry, Gooden, Keith Hernandez, Dykstra. Game one: Orel Hershiser vs Dwight Gooden...This story is great, full of quotes, names and videos that put's me into a time machine.

Key members of each team look back at one of MLB's best postseason series

The 1988 National League Championship Series had everything an inspired script writer on Broadway or in Hollywood could have produced.
It was New York vs. Los Angeles, a clash of titans and cultures. Stars, enough to fill an All-Star squad, aligned on both sides. Managers Davey Johnson and Tommy Lasorda were household names, Johnson's Mets having won a World Series in 1986, Lasorda's Dodgers in '81.
Despite all these compelling elements, something was missing: a sense of drama regarding the final scene. On paper and in newspapers, coast to coast, it was a viewed as a mismatch, a foregone conclusion.
The Dodgers had the game's hottest pitcher in Orel Hershiser and combative Kirk Gibson driving the offense and clubhouse. But the Mets had riches everywhere: power and speed in a menacing lineup; power pitching in a deep rotation with an imposing bullpen.
A columnist -- yours truly, writing for the New York Post -- did a position-by-position analysis and forecasted a Mets sweep. Colleagues across the land noted how New York had taken 10 of 11 regular-season meetings, outscoring the Dodgers by 49-18, and finished with 100 wins -- six more than Los Angeles.
That script, it turned out, did have everything. It stands as one of the greatest postseason series in Major League history -- even if Mets diehards might have a hard time buying that notion.

Game 1: Mets 3, Dodgers 2
Hershiser rang up eight scoreless innings in front of the home crowd and took a 2-0 lead into the ninth before the Mets finally stirred. Gregg Jefferies' leadoff single through the hole to left got it started. He advanced on a groundout and scored on Darryl Strawberry's two-strike double to right center.
Lasorda summoned Jay Howell to protect the one-run lead, and it didn't happen. One strike away from a win, Howell's 0-2 pitch to Gary Carter was punched to center beyond the grasp of John Shelby for a two-run double. Kevin McReynolds, who had walked, scored the decisive run. Randy Myers retired the Dodgers in order, and the Mets had a dramatic 3-2 victory.

The headlines may read! After sizzling finish, young Cubs confident with postseason ahead!
But after all season the Cubs fans have been awfully quiet the last few weeks, you can't almost cut the tension and superstition with a FORK. If this helps.....Steve Bartman will not attend the Chicago Cubs' first playoff game in seven years despite a campaign designed to raise money to get him!
Last time the Cubs made the playoffs. 2008 National League Division Series.
Cubs (97–64) vs. Los Angeles Dodgers (84–78) Dodgers sweep, win series 3–0.
superstitiously the 2008 Cubs won 97 games and the 2015 Cubs won 97 games.
All it's gonna take is one game and you're OUT!!!!!!! Or IN! They can win one game vs The Pirates away from home can't they? They can break wind away from Chicago for one game?
I'll say one thing, I don't nor do I ever want to see Jake Arrieta again. Cubs fans should like their odds with that "bottom drops out of every pitch" pitcher. I don't know what their fans are worried about if they are. The team is solid and they say they're confident.
Cub fans started out saying they'd be happy just to make the playoffs. Ok you made them, now leave please.
I think they could take the Dodgers let alone the Pirates......Just kidding.

The headlines say: Swooning Yankees gifted home field, but mighty Keuchel looms........
No words from the Yankee circus either. What's your take Machado? Got to like home field and your man from Japan. I forgot Dallas lost, Machado will be gone for a few days.
-------------------------------------------------
If there's a baseball god, he'll take the Yankees and Cub's out in the WC round, I pray to you now oh baseball gods.......Thanks for any help if you're listening.
The Cubs owe me $10 and until I get it back they have my curse.

Keuchel vs Tanaka sounds like a sumo or MMA match. What's a Keuchel? Sounds like a dog breed. I hope he lights them up.bane wrote:Keuchel vs Tanaka on Tuesday. Yanks haven't scored on Jake Arrieta in 2 starts. I'm liking his chances. The Astros pen on the other hand is a problem.

The problem facing Houston ( as Bane pointed out ) is the 'Stros bullpen. That Moneyball OBP that Oakland and Boston is famous for was practically invented by the Yankees. If Keutchel isn't 100% locked in, they'll have him at 100 pitches in the 3rd inning.
I still take Houston for the win though. They're younger, hungrier, and while I believe Tanaka is a remarkable talent that dude's arm seems to be hanging by thread. NY has no one else to put out there though. You'll either get Pedro '99 or Zito '10.
For your earlier comment about likable players, I know King Felix is universally loved ( he's also Beltre's BFF ). Mike Morse and Cole Hammels seem to be really liked too.
What's the word on Molina? The Cards are stil the team to beat IMO....depending on Molina. I am looking forward to seeing how the Mets play this postseason. Especially with Boras' client taking the mound and what that entails.
Re: Killeverything's (New)NeverEndingBaseballThread
Yankees hosting the Astros tomorrow night.
The Astros pitcher is going on 3 days rest. Never has done that before.
Nobody knows if that will be a factor.
Yankees have their Ace on the mound so what else could they ask for. I just hope the Astros drank a lot of champagne yesterday and have a long flight to The Bronx as well.
In other Yankees news, C.C. has checked into Alcohol Rehab and won't be available for the entire postseason

You are a sick person. How can anybody be happy he has an alcohol problem that needs to be treated in rehab

I HATE the red sux to no end but I would never celebrate a member of their team having an addiction to booze.

No you are the moron because C.C. has pitched incredibly well as of late.
Look up the stats and you will see. C.C. was pitching at a much higher level recently, despite the awful stats.
