GRUNGE! Worst of the third albums

Post by DangerZone »

For me, Alice In Chains was the biggest letdown followed by Pearl Jam.

I like STP the best, though Nirvana’s is probably the better album.

Don’t know enough about Soundgarden so they out ☠️

Interesting. Soundgarden's third album was their "Black Album" so it doesn't really work in this poll. They get a bye. On to the next round.

I owned all of these, but listened to Tiny Music the least. Big dropoff from Purple. Voted for that one.

In Utero and Vitalogy were dropoffs too, but have some merit in retrospect.

Alice in Chains' tripod album (or whatever it is) isn't as good as DIrt, but still pretty good. I think it's the best of the ones listed.

I agree with Monsieur Freeze. Tiny Music was the biggest dropoff.

Tough call, though. All of these albums have their moments.

Vitalogy wasn't on the level of the 1st 2 but was still good. No Code was a fucking beer coaster.

Tiny Music probably.

I realize it's an EP,but Jar of Flies is one of the best from this era and genre and in my mind is AIC's 3rd album.

All of these records are fuckin' badass. Way better than any hair metal records I can think of. AIC self titled is probably my favorite but In Utero is the best Nirvana studio album too.

Had to go with Tiny Music. It obviously has some great songs including some of the deeper cuts, but also probably more filler than the others mentioned here.

I don’t know what people are talking about when they say the dog record has a ton of filler. Head Creeps and So Close, I guess? Nothin’ Song is tongue-in-cheek with purposefully written throwaway lines but it’s still a rad song.

So by this reasoning, Dirt would be their third album, because Sap was the earlier EP??

If rock bands had gravestones, this would be written on the one for Pearl Jam.

Vitalogy blows. Tiny Music is awesome, and again, not remotely grunge except for marketing purposes only. The other two somewhere in between...

STP was grunge.
The same way Cinderella was hair metal.

If you put on a grunge playlist you expect to hear STP.
They don’t belong alongside Bowie or New York dolls.

Marketing bro. Who do you think makes the playlists? Algorithms. Scott would have been thrilled to be thought of alongside Bowie and the Dolls ...

I agree. All these albums are anywhere from good to excellent. Not a bad album among them.
