Do you watch reaction videos?

Post by Traxan »

YouTube is loaded with reaction videos, people watching a video for the first time and reacting to it. Generally, they're pretty useless; same old shit, they all say oh yeah this is awesome. Like I need somebody to tell me that?

But occasionally you find a good one. I like this classical musician reacting to metal bands because he's an actual musician and can identify things like keys and time signatures. You get a little bit of an education watching his video.

I also like this guy because he really picked apart the Kajagoogoo song "Too Shy" as a bassist. Again, he's very educational.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XuXax5-pWzI

I do get a kick out of parent/child reaction videos. Nice to see a positive relationship between the generations over music.

Although she mostly does the raving reviews I said I don't like, I'm partial to an Indian beauty named Ramona if only because she's friggin gorgeous, if a bit generous with the makeup.

So what about you? Any appetite for reaction videos?

I found one with some sound engineers reacting to entire Metallica albums. It was interesting...especially with St. Anger.

Someone here YEARS ago posted a Shane Diablo video and I got such a kick out of the guy, I immediately subscribed. I watch his reaction videos fairly regularly, and Finn McKenty's. That guy's really knowledgeable and like our best friend Shane D, super funny.

Other than them, no one I can think of. I think it's kind of a boring format.

Meanwhile I could watch hours of people shopping at Amoeba. Yo, you ever see people pick out movies in the Criterion closet? Just as good.

Some YouTubers are fun to watch their reactions to. I like when they don't stop the video every 10 seconds to talk for 2 minutes, waiting until the middle or end to share their thoughts. However, I think every reaction video I've seen at least is people giving a "positive" reaction; nobody comes out and says "THIS SHIT SUCKS!" so they don't offend that genre/band's fans.

A lot of them have tons of followers and views since all they do are reactions. Seems like it can be a lucrative angle, like the "TwinsthenewTrend" dudes who went viral for that Phil Collins reaction (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0l3-iufiywU) and even got PARODIED on Saturday Night Live (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sf-sMJ2PwyY), which is pretty crazy.

LAglamrocker should be like the "rap fans react to country" and start a "Glam Rocker Reacts To Hip Hop" channel!

Hell no I don't. Why would I give a shit about someone's reaction to anything? Much less what they have "reaction videos" for. Same with "unboxing". LIke I give a shit about some dude "unboxing" a lawn mower. Or anything else. YouTube and Tik Tok, especially Tik Tok, are seriously dumbing down this already dumb society.

If only we high achievers had the time to read and post on multiple message boards.

I don't even know what I'm replying to right now. Too busy to find out! I hope this is the "What Are You Listening To Now?" thread.

I watched all of Holly Madison's reaction videos but she isn't on YouTube much anymore because she does a podcast with Hef's other ex Bridget now. Wow they really drag Kendra.

Some of the people who do the reaction videos are actually selling their on merchandise. T-shirts, Coffee Mugs etc.
I’d just like to say fuck you, if you’ve ever bought any of that crap.
Ridiculous.

If I didn’t go to work, I’d never find the time to watch all the movies and tv shows I want to see.

This… if you are hip enough to make slick monetized YouTube content, then you’ve heard most of the subject songs at least once in your life. No matter your race, religion, taste, ect; EVERYBODY has a quirky relative that pushed those songs on them at some point.

I’m a 49 y.o. Honky in a Red State… but I know who Blueface is (Thanks TMZ!).

I hate reaction videos but I especially hate the vocal coach ones, idk why, they are just extra annoying. In all reaction videos, I've also found the youtubers never have anything negative to say because they are clearly pandering to the fanbase of the artist. Like nobody else is looking up reactions to She's Gone from Steelheart other than Steelheart fans lol so they aren't going to say it sucks.

No fucking kidding. I post tribute cover videos and even though I could technically open a guitar case and earn some pennies singing other peoples tunes in a subway tunnel somewhere, I always thought ‘of course, fair enough’ when YouTube says you can’t monetize something that’s copyrighted.

These people merely say whether they like or don’t like someone else’s work and they get paid for it/get indignant when they don’t? They can eat my entire ass.

Co-sign. Other than Zach Ansley they’re almost all hacks. Reaction videos are bad enough but it goes double for the “how to sing like [insert one of a kind singer here]” hacks.

My gf laughs her ass off at how crazy this makes me, those videos that are just the original video and someone in the corner nodding and pointing at the video.

I do. I enjoy most of them. There are three chicks I watch on occasion. "Beth Roars", "The Charismatic Voice" and "Rebecca Vocal Athlete". There are also two black guys from Vegas that are fun. Their channel is "Lost In Vegas".

The Lost in Vegas guys can get annoying at times, but they seem pretty genuine. They'll make fun of parts of songs they think are cheesy or over the top and they don't claim to like everything.
