Most record prices these days are ridiculous to me. Thirty years ago I couldn't GIVE my vinyl away.

FYE? I hate that they're struggling so much, but their prices are usually astronomical on vinyl, so it's hard to support them.exitflagger wrote: ↑Fri Aug 18, 2023 4:02 pm Soundgarden - Badmotorfinger, not remastered, not audiophile grade, not 180 gram, no extras, single LP.

Same record for $25 on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Badmotorfinger-L ... 427&sr=8-2
Used - Like New for $20.
Discogs has the record in the $20 range too.
In-store prices are always marked up sky-high. Shop around online. Guaranteed to find them much cheaper.

I was at Rolling Stone Records near the HIP in Chicago and saw a KI$$ Rock and Roll Over in the cut out bin for $2.99. I was like, WTF? Who would pay that much for this shit?

Not being remastered is probably a plus.

Call something collectible and then you can jack up the price.

Re: Share your ridiculous record price examples here
Actually remastering on stuff around that time period is almost a requirement. Most late 80s early 90s vinyl sounds awful because it was invariably mastered to be heard on CD. Translation to analog is a severe downgrade. Doesn't stop knee jerk buyers from paying through the nose for "OG pressings", which is total dilettante bait.Mister Freeze wrote: ↑Sat Aug 19, 2023 8:07 amexitflagger wrote: ↑Fri Aug 18, 2023 4:02 pm Soundgarden - Badmotorfinger, not remastered, not audiophile grade, not 180 gram, no extras, single LP.

Yes, some remaster jobs get botched but if done correctly it can eliminate the flatness and dullness of sound that was common for that era.

AH. That's the other one. I knew I recognized that sticker from somewhere. Their stuff is ridiculously priced too. I think the only time I bought vinyl from there was Public Enemy's Man Plans God Laughs, which they inexplicably bought a truckload of, and have been trying to get rid of for 25% off for a few years now.

Re: Share your ridiculous record price examples here
Back when I sold used vinyl online,I got $1,100 for a soul 45 I was given for free from an old lady. It turned to be very desirable to Northern Soul collectors in the UK.
I also sold an old soul 45 recorded in El Paso, by an artist named Freddy Chavez (who I used to know). I couldn't find it listed in any price guide or discussed online at the time, so I was happy to get 15 bucks for it. I later found out it's worth more than three grand to Northern Soul collectors, and I've actually seen it listed for as much as 10 grand. The guy who bought it was in England, but he found someone in my town to come and pay me cash for it....immediately. D'oh!

Another one; Big Star debut. I have this same record, promo hole and all, in much better condition than this. I wouldn't sell mine anyway but 350 is a bit much.

I was in a store last week that had a 1989 Cocked and Loaded, nothing special about it. Not even mint shape, $130.

I’ve been waiting forever for The Black Crowes to re-release By Your Side even though it’s one of their worst albums, but I’ve seen a legitimate looking bootleg going for 70 dollars.
