Great Expectations
Has to be one of the worst songs I've ever heard. KISS have more than their fair share of garbage tunes, but this one is truly an abomination. If they gave a shit about their fans, they would never have put this on an album, not even a box set of unreleased tunes. Just horrible.

Re: Great Expectations
Destroyer is NOT the masterpiece they want you to believe.
Detroit and King start it strong. As much as GoT is Gene's signature song, it sucks. Beth may have won a People's Choice, but it's a pussy ballad. I'm skipping over a lot, but the rest is a yawner. As a 5th grader, I thought the entire album was the bee's knees. The artwork grabbed me, and it was my intro to KISS. So, of course, I was looking at it through the lens of a dumb kid.

I love God of Thunder, but I'm with you on the rest. Sweet Pain and Flaming Youth are kinda meh. Beth sucks. Shout It Out Loud is cool I guess.TooOldToCare wrote: ↑Mon Aug 21, 2023 10:59 am Destroyer is NOT the masterpiece they want you to believe.

Never got why this album is regarded as one of their greats. Debut is much better. I'd say most of their 70s albums are better.

Hated it the first time I heard it. Hated it probably the next 20 times I heard it. Started warming up to it eventually, and now the completely idiotic charms of it have won me over. I think it might be my favorite song on Destroyer.

The weakest songs on Destroyer are the biggest singles. Beth and Detroit.
Detroit may be the most overrated Kiss song together with Calling Dr. Love.
Their two best albums, and the weakest songs become the classics....???

Re: Great Expectations
Semi-KISStard, but Destroyer is totally overrated........ "Great Expectations" sucks (and blows) and I also don't like "Flaming Youth" (ghey) and "Sweet Pain" (typical Gene filler).

EXCELLENT:
Detroit Rock City
Shout It Out Loud
GREAT:
King of the Night Time World
God of Thunder
Do You Love Me
GOOD:
Flaming Youth
Sweet Pain
MEH:
Great Expectations
You can talk shit about "Beth" all you want, but it was a ballsy move to take the band's established style and do a complete 180° like that. It could have ruined them, but instead it made them bigger than ever

Nope, never has been anything with Great Expectations on it is automatically not a masterpiece. They were lucky to have a cool as fuck album cover that has clouded the KISStards view of the album.TooOldToCare wrote: ↑Mon Aug 21, 2023 10:59 am Destroyer is NOT the masterpiece they want you to believe.

Re: Great Expectations
It's never a song I choose to listen to by itself. But in the context of the album I enjoy it. Especially when it gets going.
Destroyer is a great album.
