Skid Row At The Island Last Night

Post by Wednesday 13 Fan »

Great show, it was pretty full... I'd say at least 2500, based on the Treasure Island Events Center capacity. Erik Grönwall absolutely wails, and would do far better than Bach would have. Crowd seemed to know the new stuff too. Snake seemed to have his smile permanently tattooed on his face, the others were great as well. Scotti Hill had the guyliner on, and it looked a bit silly. Reminded me of that scene in Semi-Pro.

Buckcherry was great as well. Bookended the show with the two obvious songs.

The merch booth was a total shit show, though. Only one guy with a huge line. Main tour shirt sold out on large and extra large. Buckcherry's was about the same. Are these guys drawing this much every night, or was this a better attended show? They really needed the extra help, here.

Was there also & it was a great time
Only problem is I wish Skids did more than 75 minutes. Several of their great deeper cuts are favs & I would've loved another song or 2 off new album.
This is definately a good package, saw Skids earlier this year to another big casino crowd too.

Were there any hot chicks who thought that they were going to see Bas sing, then left early when they found out the reality?

Nah, people seemed to be up on everything. Skid Row has something of a following here, apparently.

They played Beat Yourself Blind when Solinger was in the band.

"""""""""""""""" any hot chicks who thought that they were going to see Bas sing, then left early when they found out the reality?"""""""""""""""

You know what 98% of the Hot women and Chicks in the world think now, when they see a recent pic or video of Bach?

Fact is, they're HORRIFIED.... and often say things like "Really? What happened to him?"

I have some friends, in other parts of life, who know next to nothing about the bands, who is who, who is dead and who sang what.

One buddy who I chat with, I say "Yeah, I did a show last week with Ted Poley, Kix and FireHouse..." and he's like, "Who is that?"

Then I play him a song... and he says "I don't know it..." then it gets to the "Let's get Naughty Naughty" chorus, and he's like "Oh yea, I remember this from Pirate Radio!"

That is a huge percentage of America, who go to these shows at the State Fair, or Casino gigs, etc.. They have no idea who is who, other than a song from the radio, from 1989.

Then I would mention Sebastian Bach, and people say; "Yeah, I remember Skid Row, the singer looked amazing and had a great voice..." then I play them a recent video... and they're like  #WTF

Funny... half of these people have NO clue that half the band's singers are not their original singers, or that they've been dead for over a decade. Crazy.

Skid Row is doing MUCH better numbers than Bach... ALL DAY long... and it's not even close!

Similarly, Queensryche is doing better numbers than Geoff Tate and Great White is out-drawing Jack Russell too!

Doesn't it vary from year to year though?

In 2023, yes... I agree Skid Row are doing better. But there was a time where both Skid Row w/ Johnny and Sebastian were playing the same scene. I went to a Sebastian show at a club that had 1,200 person capacity. It was sold out and they were giving away 2 for 1 Skid Row tickets. I went to that show too and it wasn't even half full.

His 2019 tour probably did well too where he played the first record in its entirety.

When I saw Skid Row on the first leg of this tour (House of Blues, SC.), I also had the impression that crowd was aware that they had a new singer/album, it wasn't a Corn-Dog crowd who only knew "18 & Life" and "I Remember You". Not sure why it took Bolan and Snake 20+ years to finally put some effort back into Skid Row, but I think Eric and new album have definitely brought back a certain percentage of fans.

They only moved the October dates to March. They are still doing their West coast shows with Buckcherry in December

I'm glad Erik is doing well enough to continue to play shows. I thought they were shutting things down completely, clearly I didn't read close enough to see that only certain shows were moved.

The two ep's with Johnny are underrated, especially the second one. It's a shame they won't do a song or two from them. They could easily do Damnation Army and whether or not the crowd knew it, they would still probably dig it.
