Re: Do you like Slipknot? (Poll)
They have 0 songs... but their image sells it... meh.
Saw them at The Keyclub on the 1st tour...
It was kinda odd, seeing 8-9 guys on stage in overalls pounding on trash cans yelling at the crowd.

Re: Do you like Slipknot? (Poll)
It seems by their 3rd album they had a few songs with singing choruses for Rock radio.

Kind of an odd band for me. I like most of the songs I hear, but never felt the need to dig into their catalog.

I just don’t get get the appeal of this band. They sound just as stupid as they look. Their singer seems like a total douche bag.
Re: Do you like Slipknot? (Poll)
If I'd been 16-18 when they broke I'd have been totally into them. But I came of age during the peak of thrash metal so I already had a shelf-full. I saw them at a festival maybe 20 years ago and enjoyed the show but haven't spent any time on them since.
Re: Do you like Slipknot? (Poll)
Good band with lots of songs.
The two guitarists are really good and got awesome taste if you like dudes like Jason Becker and Alex Skolnick.

Re: Do you like Slipknot? (Poll)
I did a bit of a dive yesterday listening to interviews and a doc. It seems they were a main influence on a generation of millennial metalheads. Maybe I would have bonded with it if I was 12 in 1999.

Re: Do you like Slipknot? (Poll)
Start with XX, which is a compilation of their first couple indie releases. Then XIII and Saviour Sorrow. Stop there.
After SS, they apparently decided that if they couldn't beat Slipknot, they'd be Slipknot, and they can't pull it off. But the early stuff was very different, and they were only compared because of the outfits and masks.
As for Slipknot, I like most of their stuff. The exception being their second album, Iowa. I think that one was rushed, and the sound just isn't them. It's the one that really broke them though, so what the fuck do I know.

Re: Do you like Slipknot? (Poll)
Yes, but I don’t go much beyond the Vol. 3 era.
It took me awhile to get into them as a kid. They were definitely ‘the next big thing’ when they headlined the second stage at Ozzfest ‘99. By the next year I was way into it. To this day I love drumming to their first three albums.
They sort of took Pantera, Slayer, and Korn and made it their own. But I’ll also always insist that no Machine Head = no Slipknot.

I like their first album. And a handful of songs they released after that. Especially Psychosocial!

Over the years, Slipknot has come closer to merging with Stone Sour. Some songs could be interchangeable between the two. There are more melodies these days to many SN tunes.

I like “Wait and Bleed” and “Duality”. That’s all I got. Seriously though, those two songs are good.

Not really familiar with the Knot, but I gave these two songs a chance, I don't like them at all! I can get into Korn's first album, but not this!
Gonna hafta vote no!
Oh yeah, I saw them live in 2012 (?), went for Slayer but Slipknot was the headliner, we watched them but weren't into them at all...

Pretty much this. If their music was any good, they wouldn't need the Halloween store gimmick.kytepunches wrote: ↑Thu Oct 05, 2023 6:36 pm I just don’t get get the appeal of this band. They sound just as stupid as they look. Their singer seems like a total douche bag.

99% of the bands talked about here could have that statement applied to them. It's about putting on a show, in addition to the music.HoldenSSV wrote: ↑Sun Oct 08, 2023 5:52 amPretty much this. Re: Do you like Slipknot? (Poll)
I have to wonder if the people saying they don't have songs have actually taken the time to listen to their albums or just think that because that's what they assume from their reputation and image ? Maybe they seen a 20 second clip or heard a song or two 20 years ago ? A lot of people seem to assume it's just screaming and noise which couldn't be further from the truth. I think they also assume all their albums sound like Iowa which is the only album that is heavy for the sake if being heavy, none of their albums sound much like that.
Of course there are heavy songs with screaming but there are also lots of songs with clean vocals that are extremely catchy as well as some great ballads such as Snuff. Very talented musicians and Cory Taylor is an amazing vocalist.
As for only being popular for their image ? It doesn't hurt but come on, almost every band has an "image" and there are a billion other bands with a scary, makeup, mask etc... type image. Why aren't they as popular ?

You can't build a Slipknot list without a buncha fuckin racket. It just happens with nine guys. It's usually pretty tight though.Doyle Hargraves wrote: ↑Wed Oct 11, 2023 4:05 pm Anyone wanna list 10 or so good songs that arent a buncha fuckin racket? Vermillion 1 and 2
Orphan (although by far the heaviest listed here)
My favorite Slipknot song is actually Snuff, which is a ballad.
