Steve Riley played in both these bands. But which one do you prefer?

They both have their fair share of great songs, but I choose Phil and Tracii by a cunt hair over Blackie and Chris here.

WASP had a bunch of awesome songs. Incredible band.

LAG had a couple decent songs I guess. I feel like they had every opportunity to be huge, and worked very hard to make sure that didn’t happen.

WASP is one dimensional on every level (songwriting, vocals, musicianship, etc..) some good songs, but overall a catalog that is a glut of same sounding filler. A "Greatest Hits/Best Of" compilation is more than enough WASP.

L.A. Guns on the other hand has/had a pretty strong catalog (S/T through Hollywood Forever anyway), Lewis has a cool voice and Guns is an underrated guitar player, but unfortunately the last 4 albums have been complete filler.

Mehhhh...like every teenager, I enjoyed the first WASP album...but it has aged pretty poorly. There are no fucking riffs, and the songs are pretty much just all about bullshit~ nothing real to them.

Second album was just some bullshit to me. I remember hearing Blind in Texas at the Sanctuary offices and just being like: "Whaaaaat is this bullshit???"

They had the Kiss problem by then...looking like demons, but singing about partying.

To be fair, everything on at least that first L.A. Guns albums was real slice-of-life shit, which, for me, ages better than WASP's generic songs about high school and being a Scallion or whatevs.

I like both, but I find myself wanting to listen to LA Guns more than WASP most of the time. If I compare WASP's first 3 to LA Guns' first 3, it's no contest for me. Each of the first 3 LA Guns albums might have one song, maybe two, that I consider skipping; whereas, WASP's second and third albums were largely a chore for me to listen through. That said, "95 Nasty" has been living rent-free in my head all afternoon today.

(looks at current poll results)

Wow, way more WASP fans here than I thought.

L.A. Guns has a better discography, very solid over a long time. That said, they don't have anything that can hold a candle to peak W.A.S.P. especially The Headless Children. Still, Blackie has been rehashing the same stale songs for decades now, starting with SNBE.

This. The only WASP album that has anything real about it is The Headless Children. Maybe Crimson Idol, which may have ended up more real than intended.

Save for those two albums, WASP is pretty much like Twisted Sister. And they were one of the worst bands I saw live in the 80s - opening for Maiden in 1986.

Oh yes. I LOVE when my music is "real".

It's much more exciting to listen to how "It's never enough just to hold you", than listening to "Wild child, you're sweatin' and you're stoned, that alcohol you downed makes you crazy!"

"What a shame, what happened to Jane" is much more fun than "A pelvic thrust and the sweat starts to sting ya!"

The real world. I want even more of it in my life. I'm looking for a band who just sings newspaper articles.

Neither of those are on the first L.A. Guns album, which is what I specified.

Reading comprehension: 1/10. No gold star.

Those guys also lived the life and basically went on stage in their street gear. WASP was a costume dress-up band like Kiss or Twisted.

Pure broadway.

I dont know which songs are on which album. I do know they didnt have cool awesome costumes like Kiss, WASP or Twisted Sister.

When they sung Rip & Tear, was that a "slice of life" song about getting their stage tshirts ready?

That ‘real’ bs comes from post-grunge thinking.
And Guns N’ Roses.
Wasp came from the first wave of la metal, so it’s not a fair comparison or slight.
Headless children was their answer to the street cred ethos

And I’d say ‘ballcrusher’ destroys ‘rip & tear’ or ‘pretty tied up.’

And I love the first la guns record

My favorite album by each of them are their debuts - and Riley didn’t play on either of them.

I voted for WASP, by a nose.
