I hate the Beatles. I’ve tried, but I don’t get it.

Patton could sing anything that those other singers have ever sang. But none of them could sing Patton's catalog.

Dude - did you, like, just get ass-fucked by Patton or something? You're really off the hook here.

It's all about context. That's why everyone shit themselves when Dylan came along. The Beatles followed suit and there wasn't a lot of "hand holding" after that. Pop music wasn't really trying to be deep in the early '60s which is when most of "those" songs were recorded. There were/are plenty of bands who wrote/write dumber shit than the Beatles ever did. Hell, there are songs on Rush's debut with worse lyrics.
Yeah, but Dylan has the opposite problem - excellent lyrics, atrocious vocals.

Don't own anything by them and actively dislike them. Growing up the charts here (UK) were infested with turgid shit like Ebony and Ivory, Frog Chorus, Mull of Kintyre, Imagine, Traveling Wilburys stuff, all of which I loathed and still do. Every Beatles album, even their highly rated ones, has at least a couple of my least favourite songs of all time - Yellow Submarine, Ob La Di Ob La Da, Octopus' Garden, Hey Jude, Give Peace A Chance, I just can't abide hearing so many of their songs ever again.
Pretty much my sentiments as well. Although I believe I'm a bit younger than you.

Zappa is pure cult status shit. He is to music what Bruce fucking Campbell is to acting....
Never owned a Beatles album. I’m a fan but not hardcore, their music is everywhere, and my dad had all the vinyls so just never had a need to buy their stuff.

I do not like the early stuff. Now when they got on drugs they became awesome IMO. Sgt Pepper on is amazing. That I wanna hold your hand shit sucks!
All you really need is the "blue album"
I like all eras but I'm more of an early stuff fan. Yep, tie>mane in this case.
Give me "Please, Please Me" and "A Hard day's night" (the albums) and I'll listen to the latter stuff I I have time.

I have Sgt Peppers (given to me) and it's great. Also the red and blue greatest hits.
All you need.
The red GH - is that the "1" album from 2000? If so I agree.
I have the Live at Hollywood Bowl too just for fun. But it really isn't essential.
And the double cd bootleg "Banzai" (Paris 1965/Stockholm 1963) is an even better live experience but it's not easy to find.
