He's the Pat Boone of blues guitarists.

He's like one of those newer jazz artists that would be getting rave reviews and making the rounds on the talk shows in the late 80s. That scene was long, lonngggg dead by then.

Yes! He would've fit right in with those 80s yuppie cocktail party background music jazzbos like the Yellowjackets and the Rippingtons.FreddyFender wrote: ↑Mon Nov 13, 2023 3:10 pm He's like one of those newer jazz artists that would be getting rave reviews and making the rounds on the talk shows in the late 80s. Too bad that skillset does not include writing a hit song.

I find some of his music to be a little bland, but he's an absolutely great guitarist. He's full of himself, but most of the guys we talk about here suffer from something similar.

I caught a bit of his show on SiriusXM one time, he actually comes across better than say, Tom Morello, but that's mainly because Tom is always playing his own shit.CrankerBait wrote: ↑Tue Nov 14, 2023 3:58 am I find some of his music to be a little bland, but he's an absolutely great guitarist. Definitely comes across as being a huge blowhard, though. Zappa said it best, Shut up and Play Guitar.

His biggest skill is stealing Eric Johnson's licks & tone and still sounding as generic as fuckOld_Man_Dokken wrote: ↑Mon Nov 13, 2023 5:31 pm Too bad that skillset does not include writing a hit song.

I’ve never heard a lick of this guy’s music and from how he’s being described here, I don’t think I want to.

For a split second I thought this was going to be another Fatgang VH topic reading the title, but when I read the opening post I knew it had to be JB. Lo and behold…

Re: "I'm at the height of my skillset"
I always get a laugh at all the butt hurt over JB. He's smartly cultivated a sound and stage character (The Guy in the Suit) that have been very successful. If you've ever seen his interviews from "Nerdville", you'd see him for who he is, a gear obsessed guitar geek. I'm sure he'd be a piece for a psych professional to mull over (I personally get spectrum vibes). But the butt hurt? C'mon guys he's no more "self absorbed" than many of the players we discuss here all the time.
Re: "I'm at the height of my skillset"
Yes he says things from time to time that come off a little odd, but trust me when I say.....he's a good dude. Like a seriously good dude.

He's very talented and occasionally douchey. Both things are equally true...
