How long and much do you keep an unbearable good musician?

I saw that KISS tribute play the afterparty of the documentary screening. They were good! Took 2-3 songs for me to realize the Paul was black.
Loved that he looked and sounded like Dave Chapelle in the film.

He could of been Ace’s stunt double from the TV movie.HueyRamone wrote: ↑Sun Nov 26, 2023 9:37 am I saw that KISS tribute play the afterparty of the documentary screening. They were good! Took 2-3 songs for me to realize the Paul was black.

Ace looks like Daniel Jackson from Stargate SG1.

Re: How not to audition for a KISS tribute band
Oh my fucking god, I don't believe this. I could've been that guy.
I shit you not, I auditioned for a Journey tribute band in that same room not long before this.
In like 1998-2000 or so the guitar player in that vid (Val? I think) hit me up on AOL and said he was looking for a bass player for his Journey tribute band.
I learned Stone in Love and (I think) Anyway You Want It, and went over there and jammed with him (there was no drummer or singer). We played both songs a few times, plus Red House, chatted and then went and laglamrocker'd the local Del Taco.
He said he'd hit me up once he had a drummer and a singer. Sometime later, maybe a year or so, he hit me up and said the Journey tribute band never happened but that he was starting a KISS tribute band instead and wanted to know if I was interested. I wasn't.
I never heard from him again and had no idea if he ever put a band together, let alone that footage like this exists. What a strange thing to stumble on to.

He could use that same look playing Carmine Appice in a King Kobra tribute band.BernieTaupson wrote: ↑Mon Nov 27, 2023 2:32 am His Journey band is still around.

I remember this show. Didn't it have a Gene Simmons guy blowing fire into the drop ceiling of some tiny club?

I was in a top 40/rock cover band about 10 years ago, we were auditioning bass players, and one guy brought his wireless system and ran around the rehearsal space, doing every cliche 80' stage move he could think of, it was very similar to the ass hat in this video. Our guy didn't get the gig either.......

Re: How not to audition for a KISS tribute band
When guitarists in local/coverbands run into the crowd during their solo w/ a wireless system it's barely passable, usually lame.Wild Obsession wrote: ↑Tue Dec 19, 2023 8:04 pm I was in a top 40/rock cover band about 10 years ago, we were auditioning bass players, and one guy brought his wireless system and ran around the rehearsal space, doing every cliche 80' stage move he could think of, it was very similar to the ass hat in this video. But when bass players do it, it's fucking embarrassing for the whole band. No one gives a shit about seeing a guy ride eighth notes up close.

I knew who it would be just from the title. What a freaking fruit loop.
The population explosion would be less of a problem if lighting the fuse didn't feel so good.
