Bands where no one are friends

Post by Traxan »

It was common knowledge that the four members of Slayer were not exactly buddy buddy offstage, and Kerry's recent interview with Rolling Stone is only cementing that. There was no animosity, except maybe for Lombardo, they just had nothing to do with each other outside of work.

So what other bands are like this? Where no one's friends

It seems The Ramones were not friends much longer than they were friends.

On the QRIII tour, the band dudes didn't even hang out together. They were the first band I was around that was not like a gang or family.

About that time I worked a few Dokken shows too...those guys weren't even in proximity to each other. George was on one end of the building, Don at another. The other two were off doing whatever.

RATT were pretty meh about each other as well. I think there were groups within the band that liked each other, but in general, they didn't seem to enjoy each other's company. IIRC, at least Pearcy and Blotzer had their own backstage rooms.

You're pretty much describing a bunch of our favorite bands discussed on here. Most of these guys were all fame-hungry assholes from the get-go, I'm sure, and they simply used each other's individual musical talents (or lack thereof) as a means to achieving that in the studio and onstage while keeping their preferred distances from each other outside of that, and once the ride on the gravy train was over or whatever internal power struggles/creative differences/personal demons/etc. began to rear their ugly head there was no incentive to continue the charade any further.

It's ME, MYSELF and I...

Me is a total control freak...
Myself is a arrogant prick...
and I is a total asshat!

And...they are all BALD too!

Add on, bloated, broke and a pain in the ass to be around.

I don't think the original Venom lineup were ever that good of friends.

Maybe at the beginning, during the honeymoon phase. But they all hate each other now.

When Cronos left in the late 80's and it was just Abaddon, Mantas really didn't care to get back with Abaddon. He only did after Tony "Demolition Man" Dolan agreed that he would be the singer/bassist.
When the original lineup got back together in the mid-90's, it only lasted one album. Abaddon left after one album, Mantas left after the next album.

Around 2015, the Demolition Man, Mantas and Abaddon formed Venom Inc. It happened when Demolition Man and Mantas were doing a bunch of Venom songs together. Abaddon just happened to be in the audience and the ball got rolling from there. 2 of the 3 original members with Cronos's replacement in Demolition Man and they used the Venom name for Venom Inc. But Abaddon only lasted one album, and his drums aren't even on the album. The other 2 weren't happy with Abaddon's lackadaisical drum tracks so Mantas programmed the drum tracks. Eventually Abaddon left. I watched a interview with them and they ripped Abaddon a new asshole.
Cronos seems content with the 2 other guys he has. They've been together with that lineup for the past 15 years.

Gotta say they have a good thing going right now. The drummer might be a little too skilled to get that true oldskool feeling, but can't blame Cronos for hiring professionals.
Bonus points for the band for posing with us in swimming shorts at the pool in Italy a couple of years ago. It was probably the girls going over to ask them that did the trick.

Is this really a thing? I was "friends" with guys I played music with in JR HIGH. After that, you just went with the best situation and the guys who were reliable. While I am not "enemies" with anyone I played with, I am not close "hang out" type friends with any of them. The time we spent/spend together is gigging. We may have a Christmas party, or go to a show together, but other than that we don't socialize. We don't go out of our way to avoid each other but we don't set up dates. Hell, I spent every weekend with some of them for 16 years. That's enough.

No one asked if some employees of KISS are friends. Im sure Doc McGhee and the roadie who shouts "YOU WANTED THE BEST..." to begin the show are friends too, so what?

Stevie Nicks said she hadn’t talked to Christine since that last tour finished. That was three years before Christine died! Then she posts all this shit about how they were soulmates and does a weepy tribute to her in all her shows, it’s all bullshit.

Another obvious one, their biggest record was about how they all hated each other because they were all screwing each other. Stevie Nicks had zero talent but she fucked the right people to help get her songs written. See also Courtney Love and Sheryl Crow.
