Ugh, this new JUDAS PRIEST...
Judy brings it again.
Friggin' love "Crown of Horns." A little corny and it only narrowly avoids "Take These Chains" territory, but I'm on board.

It's a really solid album and I'm fucking stoked. It has no reason to be this good, but it is.

Has anyone got a link to something from this? I need for my coffee break. That new guitarist faulkner might be kicking in now.

Ive got it on now. Faulkner has got a killer tone on this. It does sound fresh and lively and inspired. That Gibson V sounds superb. Hmm. Well done to them.

Re: Ugh, this new JUDAS PRIEST...
Checking out a few more songs...not bad...Richie definitely breathed new life into this band. Has the look and the 'soul' for the band...
Makes you wonder what would have happened if KK stayed...KK can't play Glen's leads...
Rob sounds great...almost too good...studio 'magic' has come along way...
And I was just thinking about how long until these older guys start using AI technology to enhance their studio performance.
I've heard what some of the amateur guys have been doing and it sounds OK...but what kind of pro level tools are being developed along with access to original master vocal tracks to train the AI (not using software to try to pull it out and clean it up...

I'm up to Gates of Hell and this is really damn good. Priest gets it, the fans want some old school cheeseball metal and they deliver the goods. Rob sounds fantastic. Maybe sucking cock is good for the voice. Someone tell Vince Meal to start sucking down bratwurst of a different kind.

On panic attack I am hearing the bridge riff from tom sawyer by rush. Alex Lifeson plays the same riff in the song, for example it is played just before the tom sawyer solo.

Over halfway through on Spotify now. Only the 'Deluxe Edition' is available. No idea what's deluxe about it, but thankfully no remixes, live cuts, alternate versions, or completely out of chronology songs tacked onto the end from what I can see (thank goodness!).
The thought has crossed my mind more than once that this could be the best Priest album ever. Time will tell of course, but not a single clunker so far. This sh*t is right up my alley. Escape from Reality is on now, it's crushing. A lot of ear candy going on, it's f*cking fantastic!!

I checked out at Painkiller, but I'm skipping around now. A lot of it sounds too modern for my ears, but "Crown of Horns" absolutely kicks ass.

Listened to about half of it expecting greatness but nothing stood out at all, am I the only one? It was more like Redeemer than Firepower?

It's still tainted by Scott Travis drumming for me.
I wish it was done with a simple 70s drummer who doesn't carpet bomb everything with double bass drums...

And the newer songs aren't Scott's biggest problem. On 70s and 80s Priest songs live, Travis sounds as off as disco drummer Eric Carr did on 70s Kiss.

Finished listening to it last night. Fight of Your Life kicks ass, has a 70's feel to it, like something off of Killing Machine.

Re: Ugh, this new JUDAS PRIEST...
Definitely hearing some Tipton influence in the progressions and arrangements. Other than an overly busy drummer it's great. The slower tempo songs especially...

Re: Ugh, this new JUDAS PRIEST...
The intro riff reminds me of Delivering the Goods off KM aka HBFL. Great tune.Psychobolia.com wrote: ↑Sun Mar 10, 2024 2:33 am Finished listening to it last night. Fight of Your Life kicks ass, has a 70's feel to it, like something off of Killing Machine.
Just saw some youtube videos from the first show of the Invincible Shield tour. Band sounded good but the setlist was a bit ... predictable. 3 new songs and then almost all standards like HBFL, Painkiller, VOC, Turbo Lover. Rapid Fire and Saints in Hell are maybe not too obvious but they have played them a lot on the last few tours.
Had no idea that they didn't play a well known 80s song like Love Bites in the UK before, but it makes sense when I think about it. They skipped the UK both on Defenders and Turbo, and then didn't play it again until the Redeemer of Souls tour.
Re: Ugh, this new JUDAS PRIEST...
Of the songs I heard, the guitar tone/riffage was really reminded me of songs like 1320 on Megadeth's Endgame album and then I remembered that Andy Sneap produced both albums so that makes sense. I haven't listened to the whole album yet but what I heard does kick total ass.
