April 5: Kurt Cobain died 30 years ago

The one that started it all. Spreading gossip and insults since 1998.

April 5: Kurt Cobain died 30 years ago

Post by SexxAtraxxion »

Thirty years ago, the man who changed the landscape of American culture died. His body was found three days later.

What was your reaction back then?

Still sad. Strange enough, I wasn't surprised, and think most of us were not surprised either.

Cobain was definitely someone who just didn't seem to fit into this world.

* Courtney did the correct thing 30 years ago..Bang Bang.
I will always love her for this. My life has been like Sunset Strip life since then…millions of hair metal shows- never stopping unlike Cobain brain power

People were done with their faded Nirvana NEVERMIND and man cradling baby L'Enfant ATHENA posters 3 years later.

I do remember hearing he had just gotten out of a hospital, rehab, or something....for what was thought to be a suicide attempt (don't care enough to look it up) around that time.
I was driving a dump truck in those days and local radio station I was listening to broke in and reported his death.
Not a shocker back then.
Never thought he would be this revered 30 years on tho.

I was not a fan of Nirvana or the grunge scene. But as a young man at the time, I was shocked to see just how tortured these guys really were. It was not an act. Kurt, the AIC guy, Mother Love Bone, STP guy, Soundgarden guy....they ALL killed themselves, right? That's just insane. It happened with Jimi, Janis, Jim Morrison...but that was more accidental overdose/abuse.

So, anyway those guys are long gone. Bret and his Parti Gras tour live on.

Hindsight is a hell of a thing... Think about it, if he had shot Grohl in a murder-suicide scenario, people would have thought he was an asshole.

Like going back in time and killing baby Hitler. For all those folks knew, you just killed an innocent baby.

Uh......Andrew Wood, Layne Staley and Scott Weiland were overdoses not suicides. And Kurt's death was quite possibly a murder.

After I heard the news I changed the station and got the traffic report. That was more important to me at the time.

i remember it, I grew up listening to late 70's and 80's music. I was heavily in church during the grunge era so I missed it but knew who they were. 103.1 WGBF our local huge rock station was broadcasting the suicide hotline for days after it. They expected many people killing themselves like Kurt was a John Lennon or something. The live DJ's were encouraging their listeners to get help by calling the hotline...
