Was Keel a poor man's Quiet Riot?
These guys were as generic as it gets. They couldn't write a hook if their life depended on it.

I never bough any Rough Cutt, Steelheart, Vain, BabylonAD, Firehouse, Warrant, Winger or Love/Hate.
But somehow I bought a Keel album, and, and you're not gonna believe this, actually used my spending money to buy a second Keel album.
Yeah, I dont know how that happened either.

Re: Was Keel a poor man's Quiet Riot?
Money I spent on
Keel zero
Tesla - 10$ bought someone cassette /gift was Bust A Nut
Steelheart (only tattoo I ever thought of getting) would have been few thousand
Love Hate over lifetime - CDs-shows-merch- probably 1 grand? Way better investment than stupidass engagement/kid investment
* never spent one dollar on Queensryche music(Easter bunny basket cash went better things like Dog Eat Dog tour ticket)

I was going to say he could have spent the money on drugs, but I think he already did.SchenkerFan wrote: ↑Mon Apr 29, 2024 8:56 amDude, you could've spent that on Blackout In The Red Room.HueyRamone wrote: ↑Mon Apr 29, 2024 8:36 am I never bough any Rough Cutt, Steelheart, Vain, BabylonAD, Firehouse, Warrant, Winger or Love/Hate.

For my ears, both Quiet Riot & Keel were equally just ok.
The lion’s share of both bands’ albums are filler.

Seems like most of the early "hair bands" (Quiet Riot, Keel, Rough Cutt, Stryper, Black N Blue, Y&T, Twisted Sister, etc,) the majority of their catalogs are forgettable filler.

I was in high school when Keel came out...
I loved 80s metal, but even a 15 year old knows suck...
Looking back, it seems Ron was just trying to be hair metal because it was the thing at the time...

I will break the mold here & say I like Keel......quite a bit.
Not any single album that I love but like many bands, I dig a couple songs off each release hence knowing/liking the basic setlist they do

If QR could write songs they would be Keel. Or Twisted Sister.

Re: Was Keel a poor man's Quiet Riot?
I like early Stryper and Keel but basically you're right. Ratt and Mötley were far ahead of the rest in 83-85. There was more demand than supply so mediocre bands like those and also Helix and Krokus had their minute of fame.Wild Obsession wrote: ↑Mon Apr 29, 2024 2:31 pm Seems like most of the early "hair bands" (Quiet Riot, Keel, Rough Cutt, Stryper, Black N Blue, Y&T, Twisted Sister, etc,) the majority of their catalogs are forgettable filler.

Too bad Motley had blown their load after the first two albums.Wild Obsession wrote: ↑Mon Apr 29, 2024 2:31 pm Seems like most of the early "hair bands" (Quiet Riot, Keel, Rough Cutt, Stryper, Black N Blue, Y&T, Twisted Sister, etc,) the majority of their catalogs are forgettable filler.

Really?
I always thought both were awful
I’m completely in favor of the separation of Church and State. These two institutions screw us up enough on their own, so both of them together is certain death.

Yes, really.
I like quiet riot metal health a lot. Spin that album regularly.
Keel has no redeeming qualities that I can hear.

Keel didn't need two Slade covers to make money, but that's not saying much.

Possibly, but I like them both anyway, though I prefer QR.
