What was the last good Def Leppard album?
I remember enjoying X when it was first released. But I would say it is more tolerable than good. I was probably just excited for new Def Leppard music at the time. I haven't cared for anything they have done since.
As cheesy as it is, I do enjoy Adrenalize from time to time. Calling it a good album feels wrong though. I know LAglamrocker loves this album!
It is probably Hysteria which also happens to be their last great album!

x2 for Euphoria.... it's pretty good.
IMO, "X" is one of those albums that could have been salvaged/improved with a different track/song order., and "Now" was a poor/boring choice for the lead single.
AND... the weakest song on X is "Unbelievable" which is 100% outside writers (and complete tripe), so I don't get why they would even include it?

"X" (Ten). There are some good songs on there even though it was always an odd album with the boy band type songwriting. And the single "Long Long Way to Go" was also recorded by Lionel Richie! I love Lionel but I never thought he and Def Leppard would be recording the same song!
I didn't like anything from Sparkle Lounge, Def Leppard or Diamond Star Halos.
I wrote this in a previous post...
I don't even know why I don't like their new songs. They seem like stuff I would like but I guess they just set the bar so damn high with their 80's stuff that everything else just fails in comparison.
We have discussed this many times before. I think it comes down to not only Mutt Lange but Steve Clark and even Pete Willis. Phil and Vivian are certainly capable players but that crunchy, Marshall tone mixed with the huge production was just magical. It all changed starting with Adrenalize.

Album? Euphoria. People seem to forget about "Day After Day". Great song.

I came here to say Adrenilize, but in reading the thread, I can agree with Euphoria

Yeah, I'd say Euphoria. Everything after that is "tolerable".

Re: What was the last good Def Leppard album?
The last truly great Def Leppard album was Pyromania (they've only had 2).
The last "really good" Def Leppard album was Hysteria (but it's too long).
The last "good" Def Leppard album was Euphoria, which is very solid.
The last "almost there" Def Leppard albums that at least have some solid songs (about as good as their first album) was Sparkle Lounge.

X. Didn’t sound like them, but the songs were catchy and memorable. Nothing since has been remotely memorable.

Re: What was the last good Def Leppard album?
X was absolute crap. Maybe worse than Slang and Sparkle Lounge.
But the 2015 s/t qualifies as good. Barely but it does. Sounds like classic Leppard and only about 1/3 is crap. Better than Adrenalize and on par with Retro Active which would be the other possible answer.

For my ears, last great Leppard album was Pyromania.
The last good one was Hysteria. I’ll also put Retroactive in that category, if that counts.
The last passable one was Adrenalize.
Since then, their albums have been useless.

I wanna say Adrenalise, it’s a bit underated. Atleast half of its good. That produced sound & poodle hair was just really out of vogue in 1992 and the only cool factor they had (Steve Clark) was dead.

Re: What was the last good Def Leppard album?
I going for the underdog and say Slang.
It was the last album that had them trying different directions musically, even if it did lean heavier on slower songs. I definitely developed an affinity for it.
Euphoria was really good, but it was definitely a very conscious effort to recreate Hysteria type songs. Right down to Mutt Lange contributing to three songs.
X seemed like a noble attempt to sell themselves to a boyband crowd. A couple decent songs, but a misfire all around.
Yeah! is better than it had any right to be. Some really inspired covers on there.
I liked the unfussy writing and production of Sparkle Lounge. Simple tunes, no overthinking. Sure, it made for some clumsy lyric choices, but it sounded like they had fun creating it.
Def Leppard would have been a very good record if they just kept it to 10 songs. Too many blatant throwbacks to past hits, without the Mutt Lange touch.
I wanted to like Diamond Star Halos, but while the riffs were really good, the lyrics SUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK. They're just really fucking dumb, even by Def Leppard standards.

Euphoria was great and is classic Def Leppard. Everything after that has been very hit or miss.
