Re: Billy Joel and Axl Rose : Falsetto Highway to Hell
Back in '89, I was a teenager hooked on Appetite and Lies, while my parents were listening to Storm Front.
Saw Billy Joel play Allegiant Stadium last year and he blew away the last Guns n' Roses show I saw.
Great performer, great songwriter, great career.

I really wanted to go to this but couldn’t justify the ticket/travel cost for one show. And of course I miss Axl!
I really don’t think the point is supposed to be whether he sounded as good at 62 as he did at 54 or 26 or whatever. That still would’ve been really cool to see.
Saw Billy and Stevie Nicks last year. Billy owned his limitations and still put on a great show. Stevie had enough autotune going to make me wonder if it was some cyborg version of her up there.
Hooray for aging rockers who aren’t flawless performers anymore but still give it all they have.

I’m conflicted about this. I do lower my expectations for aging singers. I totally get that they can’t sing like they did decades ago. But I still think there should be some standards.SterileEyes1 wrote: ↑Fri Jul 26, 2024 9:36 amHooray for aging rockers who aren’t flawless performers anymore but still give it all they have.
Axl sounds like an 8 year old boy here. No grit to his voice at all. It’s like false-falsetto.
This was cringeworthy.

Yeah in this case he’s taking the whole year off and his friend likely asked him to do it. More reason than excuse/I get that most aren’t gonna look at it like that.
Generally speaking I dig that when he tours he still does three hour sets and isn’t relying on autotune and backing tracks to gross levels like most singers his age and most singers generally these days.
