I think that’s a little overblown. Many Christians are bigoted toward gay people, that includes some black Christians. And just a lot of people generally. But he did terribly with black voters in the 2020 primary because Biden and Bernie had the vast majority of them locked up already, and from there he did a piss-poor job of trying to appeal to them. He and Klobuchar had 99% white audiences. I wasn’t a fan of his campaign because of that and some other reasons.

Kamala polled terribly with black voters as well back then before dropping out. I think (and admittedly hope) they’ll be better candidates now.

But, again, not predicting anything with certainty here.

Sometimes ones perceived weakness is their strength.

The idea of a black president used to be a punchline, but if Obama had been a white guy I don't think he'd have beaten Clinton for the nomination. His being black ignited young people and minorities.

Also, Pete isn't "just another token gay" any more than Obama was "just another token black guys" - both are exceptional people.

I think he'd be great on the ticket. Shapiro's fake Obama voice is too much for me.

Mark Kelly is great, as is his wife. Got to meet her just before the Covid shutdown. She only speaks for a minute or two when she makes appearances, but it leaves a haunting and powerful impression.

I don’t think he’d make a good VP candidate honestly. Good senator, good human, not the best at debating and giving speeches, which is kind of the main role for a VP. And the whole “win a state by picking someone from there” thing is a fool’s errand. But, who knows.

Here in the Deep South, homophobia and transphobia are largely a white fundamentalist Evangelical thing.
