Armored Saint Replaces Death Angel on WASP Tour

Due to "unforeseen circumstances", DEATH ANGEL "will no longer be able" to support W.A.S.P. on the Blackie Lawless-fronted outfit's North American tour, dubbed "Album ONE Alive", this fall. Replacing them on the bill will be ARMORED SAINT. Additional support on all dates will come from UNTO OTHERS.

Way to kill their career, they missed out bigtime on the Clash of the Titans tour because of a silly van accident, Geffen promptly dropped them.
This is Act II of their stupidity! This is 2024, ANY musician can be replaced, even Jack Russell or Charlie Benante!

Saw AS open for WASP a few years ago and they pair well. The two bands really complement each other. I'm not sure DA & WASP was the quite the same. Kudos to AS for scoring another decent tour.

Kerry King has a Mexico date with Amon Amarth on 11/6. Technically, that's an off-day for the WASP tour, but Mark would have to fly from Denver to Mexico on the morning of 11/6 and then from Mexico to Minneapolis on the morning of 11/7. Not impossible, but I'm guessing there will be other Central/South American KK shows announced shortly.

Yeah, I suppose if it's going to be more than one date, it would make sense for DA to not try to find a replacement vocalist for that show, or just not play it at all.Hair I Go Again wrote: ↑Mon Aug 12, 2024 12:15 pm Kerry King has a Mexico date with Amon Amarth on 11/6. I just saw this on the last tour, and actually I was wearing that Armored Saint shirt to Metallica last night. Both bands were great, so I don't mind seeing the pairing again.
I haven't seen Death Angel since they opened for Anthrax back in 2016, so would have liked to have seen them again, but I'm definitely a bigger Armored Saint fan, so no complaints.

Good move
They should be headlining
They should be headlining
Jani Lane and Bret Michaels should form a band called "Nelson II"

I saw Armored Saint open for WASP 40 years ago.

To be fair, both were technically opening for Metallica in a theater. (It was billed as a co-headline thing tho)

I think Wasp and Met flip-flopped headlining.

Poor WASP. Upstaged by Metallica one year, Slayer the next. They're probably lucky the Sabbath/WASP/Anthrax tour got cancelled.

on what planet does that happen? here on earth kk is opening for lamb of god and mastodon and they aren't even being advertised. playing 9 songs at 6:30 isn't paying shit.KISStian wrote: ↑Mon Aug 12, 2024 12:24 pmOr one KK show pays more than an entire WASP tour!Hair I Go Again wrote: ↑Mon Aug 12, 2024 12:15 pm Kerry King has a Mexico date with Amon Amarth on 11/6. Re: Armored Saint Replaces Death Angel on WASP Tour
I saw Armored Saint headline Dynamo Open Air festival in like 90 or 91.
Also on the bill were Morbid Angel, Metal Church, Obituary Extreme and some other bands.
So you had Morbid Angel make an insane racket and next Extreme playing More than Words.
Weird ass bill that one....

I was going to buy tickets to the show in Calgary , but i doubt it will be played. Has anyone lookedat that crazy tour schedule for Canada ? Blackie is old and frail , how is he going to play 9 shows in 9 days ? That whole schedule would be a grind for a band in their 20”s . Blackie must be completely broke to agree to this run.

He was doing 6 shows in 7 days on the last North American run. I think he was working hard to build up some good will with promoters over the last 10 years or so.kytepunches wrote: ↑Tue Aug 13, 2024 9:43 am I was going to buy tickets to the show in Calgary , but i doubt it will be played. Also, if his singing is "limited", and he's going to be doing this tour on a stool like he did for the European festival dates, that should make things a bit easier.

Still …even if everything goes great health wise for him. Touring across Canada and the northern U.S. in the fall ,with multiple border crossings is just asking for trouble. The roads through the mountains can be brutal.Anthrax442 wrote: ↑Tue Aug 13, 2024 10:34 amHe was doing 6 shows in 7 days on the last North American run. Re: Armored Saint Replaces Death Angel on WASP Tour
I didn't forget anything, I had tickets to the show at the Hard Rock Casino on that portion, which technically was the third leg, not the second leg. If something catastrophic happens again, then sure, the whole thing could be in jeopardy. I was simply making the point that if he's going to be sitting down for these shows, it's not going to be as physically strenuous, and it's more likely that he could adhere to that schedule. Assuming that, as mentioned, there are no travel issues that time of year, which is a legit concern.KISStian wrote: ↑Tue Aug 13, 2024 11:07 amYou kinda forgot how he cancelled the entire second leg.Anthrax442 wrote: ↑Tue Aug 13, 2024 10:34 am

DEATH ANGEL Drummer Says 'It's Pretty Obvious' Why His Band Pulled Out Of W.A.S.P. Tour: 'The Word Betrayal Comes To Mind'
After former EXODUS guitarist Rick Hunolt chimed in below Will's post, " This fuckin sucks!!! I'm so sorry Will", the drummer replied, writing, "It really does. The word BETRAYAL comes to mind." He added: "We knew there would be problems at some point but not so immediately."
Will then clarified, "I notice people are slagging WASP here. As much as I'd like to I made a promise I would not go into details about why we are no longer doing the WASP tour….on social media. But to be clear it has absolutely nothing to do with WASP."

Re: Armored Saint Replaces Death Angel on WASP Tour
Ignoring the fact that he's airing dirty laundry on social media -- great for sludge, but never a good look! -- I'm on Team Will here. A decade or so ago, he filled in with a low-level band on a van tour during some DA downtime. When you're used to touring at a higher level, that's not very common, but music is his gig and he needs to put food on his table (why he's pissed right now), so good on him. Then the near-death stuff right at the beginning of COVID... scary shit.
I wouldn't be surprised if Mark signed some sort of contract with KK agreeing to tour as KK requests. We learned from the Slayer reunion that KK was the last to know about tour dates getting booked, so I wouldn't be at all surprised if KK's manager/agent booked the MX (and likely SA) show(s) and didn't spread the word promptly. Mark/DA probably agreed to the WASP tour thinking Mark's schedule was free, but later found out that it wasn't. Can't be in two places at once. I'm sure there's also some lingering resentment in DA over Mark doing the KK record and keeping it so close to the vest, NDA or no NDA. Guessing he promised it wouldn't get in the way of DA, but here we are, just like Charlie doing Pantera is affecting Anthrax.
TL;DR = there's gotta be more to this than one show for this to blow up this badly.

I missed it earlier this week, but KK just announced some Aussie festival dates in December -- see https://goodthingsfestival.com.au/lineup
He's also added a second November date in Mexico, supporting Slipknot (https://funticket.mx/evento/slipknot-guadalajara/)
Gotta feel for the DA guys.
